Wolverines you've had high hope for that have yet to perform?

Submitted by MaizenBlueBP on
I was just thinking about some guys that us as fans have had high hopes for that have under performed or haven't performed at all. For me the guy is definitely Slot WR Terrance Robinson. I remember when we first signed this guy and became witness to the dream shake (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN9dlReSJjk). I thought this kid would be the perfect fit in RR's offense / special teams but he has done absolutely nothing. I hope it's just taking him time to develop and he begins to regularly contribute at some point down the road.

Well, he was a QB in HS and he has had problems catching the ball. If he gets that turned around by the end of next yr/beginning of next year we still will have 3 years of him dream shaking fools. I'm more upset about hearing Gallon came in overweight. I know he is just a frosh and he can definitely turn that around (which I think he will and he will become a good to great player for us) but overweight is disheartening, to me. Not being ready to play is fine with me.

I don't like the negativity in the post. I look at it positively - Odoms was the entrenched starter and he's played well. There are three candidates for playing time behind him and Grady largely took that time, with Roundtree contributing last Saturday. If the fourth guy on the chart isn't contributing, oh well. Secondly, based on posting trends here this season, I thought there was only one answer to this question. I'm shocked you didn't answer it correctly.

All time? Demetrius Brown, QB. I thought he would be one of the best in UM history and was quite vocal about it to anyone who would listen. He was fast and could throw; he was sorta like Michael Taylor would have been if his hands were big enough to effectively throw a football. Sadly, though, he didn't like to go to class very much, and we all know about his game against little brother. I have a feeling, based on the performance end, that there could have been a little bit of "overpartying" involved, too. As for current members, I am still perplexed that Justin Turner hasn't made it onto the field yet, but I am not really "disappointed." I am just looking forward to the time when he does make it onto the field. I'm hoping Turner does a Charles Woodson on OSU as a fifth-year senior, and someone, somewhere, ends up wishing they hadn't intentionally stalled to make it so difficult for his academic paperwork to get through to the NCAA clearinghouse.

Thing about Brown is he had an excellent half-season in 1988 and won the Rose Bowl for us when Michael Taylor was injured, but he has never gotten much credit for it. He also won a bowl game against Alabama. I feel bad for the guy that the one game against Michigan State is his lasting legacy.

but his game winning pass to kolesar as time expired in the hall of fame bowl against Bama was a thing of beauty. however, as strong as his arm was, he never learned that he couldn't throw the ball thru a LB.

I think for freshmen defensive backs, its extremely difficult to learn the defense, and it also requires a lot of trust (or desperation) for coaches to let a freshman go out there. The thing about playing DB is that, one wrong read and it's six points for the bad guys. So while he's probably ready to play physically, he's probably not quite sure of where the line up and whom to cover. Also, why was he late to school? Was it purely a paper work issue, or a matter of very close grades? Because if the grades were indeed an issue (and I'm not saying they are) then he might not be the fastest learner...

I'd say Justin Turner, in this respect: Expectations were solely based upon recruiting info, but I had hopes he'd follow in the footsteps of Warren, Woodson, Ty Law, etc, and make a positive contribution in his freshman year to a very thin secondary. Hard to use the term "Let me down" - I just had perhaps unrealistic expectations as to how quickly he could help out in the secondary.

Man, I'm glad you brought this up. I'm really disappointed in Christian Pace so far. Yes, I know he is still in high school, he still hasn't signed a LOI, hasn't show up on campus as a student, hasn't taken a red shirt while finishing growing, hasn't getting time as a backup on the OL....but damnit I just thought he would be an All American by now. He must not be a TRUE MICHIGAN MAN. I think we should pull his scholarship, maybe even shoot him like a horse that has gone lame.

I'm pissed at Tate for not graduating high school a year early (instead of just a semester early). We could have avoided last year's ugliness if he just would have figured out how to take four years' worth of classes in three years. Selfish punk.

I thoroughly believe that much of the excitement about Terrence Robinson stemmed from the "Dream Shake" video, which consisted of exactly one play from his high school career. I'm sure the scouting services did more research on him to hand him a 4-star rating (from Rivals, anyway), but I still don't think many fans out there have seen any video of him beyond that one highlight.

I wonder why people even bother posting on this site. No one actually cares about talking football everyone is just interested in talking other MGOBLOG users down. Lots of class guys!

I have lots of class. When I watch football, I like to enjoy a nice whipped cream topped Irish Cream & Espresso while lighting up a Gran Habano #1 Broadleaf corona. It doesn't get much better than that, babby! During halftime, I do my business and make sure to use my platinum bidet (always go platinum, never gold). When Forcier’s magic happens, I nod approvingly, ever so slightly, to the television, and raise my glass of Ardbeg 1979 Vintage 25 Year Old scotch if Michigan wins. If they lose, I go into a flying rage. That’s class.

What I mean to say (or ask) is this: does it really all have to come down on the freshman quarterback whether Michigan wins the football game or not? It sure seems that way this year. I'm holding out hope that the Michigan senior players (Minor, Brown, Ortmann, Mooseman, Mathews) this year will assert themselves on offense and make some big plays in the coming 7 games to take at least some of the load off of Forcier.

After all the talk in the summer at this point I figured Rivals/Scout would have to change their ranking system and give Ricardo Miller 6 stars but sadly, only 3.

The only way these guys can "let me down" would be some off the field Shenanigans that are detrimental to the program and/or themselves. I may be disappointed with performances but they are playing their hearts out, and its hard for me to pile on a kid who gave it his all...even when thats not good enough.

Based on all of the high school hype, I would have loved to have seen Justin Turner play this year. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until next season.

...I've said it before, I'll say it again: EVERYONE knows Tacopants is in Fayetteville, hanging at the club with Ryan Mallett. He left Ann Arbor for awhile to help John Navarre get that Alro steel plant in ship shape condition in Wisconsin, then came back and met Mallett at Scorekeepers, and has since stayed with Mallett. They are roomies. So yeah- Arkansas. Tacopants told me he has trouble hitchhiking all the way to Arizona. Seems he can only travel on trains or in the back of empty 18 wheelers.

I think I get the point of this post, you want to know the players that are not playing to how you thought they would at this point in their careers. I guess, T Rob would be a good choice because of that dream shake video, but he is also still very young and stuck behind some good slot receivers. I wish everyone on the team could turn into All Americans, but if they don't and just work hard, have fun, and contribute in some way to making M win then I think they are all successes.
