While he deserves one, giving him a raise isn’t going to move the needle for him. Another million or two isn’t going to entice a guy with a net worth of $80 million and who was the NBA’s first $100 million dollar player.

Ultimately it’s going to come down to whether or not he wants to be here vs the NBA

Shouldn't surprise anyone if he ends up in the NBA sometime relatively soon. Not sure the Blazers job would be the one he takes. That's a team that seems locked in the good-but-not-great zone, with two excellent but expensive guards and then just a bunch of okay guys. Seems like a team that's hit its ceiling and would have to be totally rebuilt, or acquire some huge missing piece, to be a real contender.

You would need to define “soon”.  I would be surprised if he leaves before his kids finish up at M - (which could be as short as 3 years from now as Jett continues to creep toward 1 and done range.)

He really SHOULD consider taking the big NBA $$ ASAP before folks figure out that Martelli is the one really coaching the team. - signed tRCMB

To be considered doesn’t really mean anything on Howard’s side. He basically took the Michigan job over the Timberwolves.

Jalen Rose had some comments last year saying he would be Very Surprised if Juwan left Michigan before winning a national championship in the same tone as Sam Webb’s “gut feeling.”

The one I’m more worried about is the Celtics job. Not the most amazing roster and has to compete against Brooklyn, but that’s a top market NBA job and they have shown they have a lot of faith in their coaches, too.

Absolutely true about undergraduate classes but the law school has a much smaller enrollment. Ten seconds of googling shows that the incoming class into the Michigan law school is about 300. Assuming it was on the same order of magnitude in 1986 the odds are much better they'd have at least known each other.

Not that it means anything.

It's really hard to win a national title but I would be very surprised if he leaves before his kids cycle through.  At that point, all bets are off.  Maybe if he's been to a couple final fours and lost he'd keep at it but otherwise can't see him sticking around too much longer.  Tom Izzo has been to like 8 final fours since 2000 and hasn't won again.  It's hard to do.  Then again, with Roy Williams and Coach K gone....

We've got Juwan until his kids are gone and then all bets are off.  Harbaugh on the other hand....

So he can as relevant as Terry Stotts? I don’t think so.

On second thought, the allure of coaching Big Men Jusuf Nurkic and Enes Kanter has to be enticing.

Serious question, is an NBA HC job today really that much better than a college gig?

I mean, Calipari is making 8M a year.  I assume Juwan will soon be offered a hefty pay raise.

And jobs are a lot more stable for the successful coaches at the college level.

Beilen could´ve stayted at Michigan until he decided to retire.  Izzo, Krzyzewski, etc a bunch of these top coaches basically have tenure.

Be a successful NBA coach or a legend at your Alma Mater?

NBA is more prestigious. As big as March madness is, there's just more audience and more competition at the pro level. Yes, you can be the king of a small town if you make it at the college level. But you'll always know that you're swimming in a small pond when there's a whole ocean out there. Some love ponds, and Michigan is certainly bigger than most schools. But Howard is driven to succeed and he hasspent his fair share of time on the big stage.

Just give us one banner to put next to 1989 Juwan and then you can go coach whatever wherever and we will build a statue of you outside of Crisler.
