I suspect Michigan is keeping Bellamy away from West Bloomfield kids on purpose. The NCAA either added or looked at adding restrictions on former high school coaches recruiting their old players. Michigan's success in New Jersey and Florida after hiring Chris Partridge, Anthony Campanile, and Devin Bush, Sr. was the impetus for those changes.

E: I can spell Bellamy properly, I promise!

There are no restrictions on Bellamy since he was hired as an on-field coach. If he were hired to an off-field role, then the NCAA would impose restrictions on player eligibility. So, it would have prevented Partridge and Bush from being hired initially (as they were both hired originally for off-field positions).

Thank you for the clarification. I was 95% certain that the NCAA has imposed a new restriction, but could not remember the contours. That restriction could still affect how Michigan recruits West Bloomfield. Michigan does not want the restriction to expand because the SEC works itself into a huff again.

They probably just wrote the initial recruiters from Michigan when Michigan was looking at at Tatum as a RB. Since then Tatum has switched his preference to DB (either safety or nickel corner) and should be primarily recruited by Helow or Linguist with Bellamy as a secondary recruiter for obvious reasons

So far, me too.

It was an interesting decision - trading coaching chops for young, energetic uber-recruiters but so far, so good IMO.  They are delivering on the element they were brought in to deliver - recruiting - but the jury is definitely still out on their actual coaching prowess.

That said I think i'd rather have a bunch of really talented players running a flawed scheme than a group of Johnny try-hards who cant hope to execute a perfect game plan.

The thing with these coaches is that they're young, but they've also coached at some pretty good locations for some pretty coaches.  Take MacDonald - he wasn't exactly chopped liver in Baltimore, coaching for one of the NFL's most consistently good (and tenure secured) head coaches.  They may not have decades of experience, but they know enough to be trusted on their own with a group of really good college kids and/or NFL players by the top coaches in the industry.

We're going to have to trust that Harbaugh has decided to take more of a CEO-type role, where he can watch over progress across the field - not just on the offense.  (Yeah - I have my doubts on that too, because he just doesn't want to deal with defense.  Lets trust that big brother John is looking out for us here!)

I wasn't a fan of keeping JH around, but I do like the staff changes and the general direction of things, for now.  We'll keep an open eye for on-field progress - you have to earn it this time around, Jimmy!  But I'm 100% on-board and hope he has it figured out...

Great! Last season's rake stepping against MSU almost cost Michigan Benny, so don't do stupid crap and hold onto the recruiting momentum the new hires (and Moore and Gattis) have going on. The only thing that could really screw this up is dumb on-field outcomes.

If Donovan Edwards’ backup, or backfield mate since they run so much wildcat with Edwards at trigger, can garner these high level offers (Ga, Osu, A&M) I am that much more excited about Donovan and him breaking the 5* c&$@e

Wilftong said "Sounds like it’s now usc and not Michigan as the competition for the 5star DB."

The guys at 247 think this post was a typo and he meant:

"Sounds like it's now USC and Michigan as the competition for the 5star DB."

or

"Sounds like it's now USC and not Ohio State as the competition for the 5star DB."

He has not commented on any posts since making that post but Sam Webb came on and said he also thinks it was a typo/mistake from Wiltfong.

Tat's dad told Sam the other day that McDonald and the DB coaches have yet to reach out to Dillon and that it was a red flag in his son's eyes. He said he heard from Bellamy which was nice but Bellamy isn't his position coach. So something to watch.

“So last night the whole defensive staff got my number and hit me up,” Tatum told The Michigan Insider. “Coach Linguist asked to FaceTime and we talked for about 45 minutes and at the end of the conversation he offered. It was a great feeling. He was basically letting me know what’s he’s done as a coach and all the levels of experience he’s been. He wants to make me a millionaire.

“Yes, it was (my first time talking with Coach Linguist) and I think he’s a great guy and he would be a great fit for me.”

What was his biggest takeaway after being re-offered by the Wolverines and talking with Linguist?

“That even the new coaches still want me to be a part of the team.”
