Who is your favorite Sparty?
Well its that time of year again. M vs Sparty. We had a similar discussion during the softball season. I ask you; Who is your favorite Sparty?
I was asked this question in front of my sister. Without hesitation I answered, "Carol Hutchins". My sister piped up and said. "Did you forget? I'm a Sparty"
I calmly answered, "You are my second favorite" She was pissed.

I'm 42 now; as a high school senior, I visited my sister at Akers dormitory at MSU numerous times.. and should have become an alcoholic in the aftermath. I have to say that I never met a nicer bunch of people who partied that hard in all of my life. On one occasion, after getting completely obliterated and lost while trying to get back, I passed out under a huge low hanging spruce such that only my feet stuck out from under the tree. I remember this: some completely random sparties pulled me out by my feet and asked me where I was supposed to be. They carried me back to my sisters dorm and dropped me in front of her door. As some of you know, I was a Michigan football cheerleader back in the acrobat squad days; I bleed blue, and generally dislike Sparty football, but I think if that had been in Ann Arbor I might still be under that tree.

No sarcasm. Cool story!
October 13th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
Wow, that story actually says a lot about how poorly you view Michigan students. I'm not saying the first person who walked by would have helped you out (and you don't know how many Sparties walked by you and laughed) but I'm sure someone would have.

In my day if you passed out close to a certain sorority house you would have been dragged into the dungeon to face the peril. Strange feeling waking up hungover wondering why your underwear was on backwards.

I know, I know ... I was a big fan of his when he was on the Falcons. I was young, give me a break.
I was happy to see him catch the long TD pass on the first drive of the Super Bowl with the Packers (was even happier that Desmond won the MVP of that game...even though I'm a Bears fan).

Tom Izzo. He's a classy guy. Granted, I don't root for MSU basketball. Also MSU's hockey head coach Tom Anastos is my neighboor and I like him
October 13th, 2011 at 11:05 PM ^
Didn't Izzo graduate from Northern Michigan? I know he did, actually. So what are our ground rules (serious q)- do Sparan alums (like Carol Hutchins) count as Spartans, or would she count as a Wolverine, or both?
Screw the rules. The only tolerable Spartans are the ones I've had relations with. And they weren't even tolerable, actually, when speaking or doing much of anything other than partying/"relating."

So i am a huge Michigan fan, been to about 15 games the last 4 years (im in college right now), and I just happened to get tickets to MSU vs. Northwestern in 2007. They lost in overtime, and my friend and I went to go get autographs. Javon Ringer was the last one to come out of the stadium, and after losing in overtime and having to talk to reporters for 30 minutes, he was more than glad to sign autographs for us and a few others there.
Fast forward to 2009, I went to another MSU game, and was tailgating with my friend. He goes, "isn't that Javon Ringer?". I said, "no I think youve had too much to drink, he plays for the Titans now". Sure enough, it was him, and we invited him to our tailgate, he was cool and hung out with us for a while.
I can't stand anything MSU related, especially on this week, but Javon Ringer is a class act.
October 14th, 2011 at 11:13 AM ^
Played against Ringer in highschool. Seemed like he was helping me up every time he trucksticked me. In all seriousness I completely agree, hung out with him a couple times outside of football and he was always a really nice guy. Couldn't help but be happy for him when he did well against anybody but Michigan.

I would say my childhood hero Magic, but I also met Tony Mandarich, because his sister-in-law took me to a Colts game and then we had dinner with the guy. He was pretty nice, even though we were all UM students.

Aaron bates after a kid I know kept yelling Aaron bates for heisman all last year whenever I mentioned shoelace around him. It was really funny cause the guy was dead serious providing me with his passing and punting stats

John L Smith! Who could forget when he blew a gasket in 2005 at the halftime of their games against ohio. "THE COACHES ARE SCREWIN UP!!" And then that press conference where he slapped himself.

The Sparty I hate the least is Ryan Miller because he took the US to the Gold Medal game. That is all.
