Who joins Poole in 2017 class

Submitted by Human Torpedo on

While CBB recruiting has been depressing lately, 2017 will no doubt be a pivotal class for JB to regain momentum for the program, and with so many legitimate targets still available and already offered, one would think the margin for error is slightly bigger this cycle

Right now we have 3 scholarship spots available plus Poole committed. I see 5 targets currently on our radar that we have any interest from (Eastern, Cain, Wilkes, Young and Jackson). Think we turn Eastern towards us for Beilein's first recruiting win over Izzo, then get Kyle Young, and while i do think we have a shot at Wilkes, I think Jamal Cain commits first

That would give us 2 probable top-75 recruits in Poole and Eastern, a top-100 recruit and a criminally underrated sleeper and potential riser in Jamal Cain. Care to share your predictions?

Edit: I changed the title for you. No need to panic

I've lowered my expectations for the b-ball team to tournament appearances. Just appearances--any advancement is a bonus. The presence of Harbaugh eases that transition (FOOTBALL!!). But Beilein is having trouble landing top targets now. He's seen coaches leave, and there's no way to gauge that effect on the team. Will our big men perform at a higher level with new coaches and another year in the system? Lowering expectation is the healthy impulse at this point.

How about this scenario:

Robinson learns how to get open better and learns to play more defense.  Wagner fully acclimates to the US game and is allowed to use some of his outside skills as a hybrid 3/4.  Donnal and one freshman provide solid play at the 5.  X becomes the "X-factor" off the bench while MAAR and Watson give solid play on the second unit.  Walton and Irvin have solid, injury-free years.  DJ Wilson takes a "leap" into what was see as his potential when he was a recruit.

If it all works out well, this could be a team with a lot of height, skills and versatility.  As always, I will be optiimistsic until given a reason to be otherwise.

While I thank JB a lot for bringing us some nice success and B1G/national relevance, things "seem" to be on a downward slide toward the median, which I think is unacceptable for Michigan.

We have great facilities, have always had the great academics, some BB tradition, and now Nike/Jumpman, but can't understand why we have to settle for mediocrity.  I do not want us to become a rogue program, looking at you Kentucky, but things need to get better and stay better.

staee, other than the Magic years was a total couch fire of a program, but thanks to a good coach (I feel dirty for saying it), they are now one of the CBB powers (I just threw up in my mouth).

Why does it seem like we are on a downward slide? We have won the B10 more recently than anyone not named Indiana or Wisconsin, we have missed the tournament once in the past 6 years when our two best players were injured, and we bring back every single major contributor from last year's tournament team. I have a sneaking suspicion we will challenge for the B10 championship this year and it will be awesome to hear people try to spin it in a negative way

Is the best player in the State regardless of class!  His entire family grew up Michigan fans.  However now that KY, Duke, and Kansas are all sniffing around we will see another blue chipper leave the state.  If JB just got 1/2 the in-state better players over the past 4 years we would be soo much better.  I don't remember it ever being this bad with the talent getting out of the state, of course Izzo does his thing, and with prep schools and all the twiiter/instagram hype I kind of get it.  I hope we can get back to recruiting the state, not sure why but based on our recruits you would think our campus is somewhere in Indiana or Ohio.  This kid is a generational talent, JB and the boys need to be on him HARD and NOW!    Til then I'll just dream about what: James Young, Devin Booker, Josh Jackson, Cassius Winston, Eric Davis, Jaylen Johnson, Edmond Sumner, and Monte Morris all would have looked like in that Maize n Blue.

Cain, Livers and a player currently off the board. (Or a 5th year for Donnal.)

At this point, it's irrational to predict we'll land a player holding an Izzo offer (like Eastern). Cain's best option is us so long as State doesn't offer. Livers is sufficiently under the radar to land here.

As for the 3rd spot, one could see Beilein keeping Donnal if other key targets fall through. If he plays well and Spike works out for Purdue, it would be awfully hard to let yet another 5th-year guy walk.

I'll stay out of this one. Everyone knows I can't stand Coach B, nice guy solid coach but we need better. It's time to go to the next level. If this same thing happened with football people would be losing their minds.

success? What was it like in the decade before he arrived?

You might hope for even more, that's fine. But if we're being realistic, our football program is historically at a higher level that basketball and there is no equivalent to Harbaugh out there for us in hoops.
