Who is the first official MGoBlog Message Board representative?

Submitted by Blue in Paradise on June 30th, 2021 at 6:24 PM

Now that NIL rights are officially approved and there seems to be no rules - what does the board think about having an official representative of MGoBlog Message Board for each major sport?  We can crowdsource some funds - let's say $25k per athlete and pick one player and/or recruit per sport.

Perhaps this can be a done with MGoBlog or we can do a separate deal.  What would we ask them to do?  Perhaps a mailbag each week where they answer 10 questions about practice / game / life?  Or they participate on a podcast with Brian and Seth?  Possibilities are endless.

Who should be the first reps for football and basketball?  Blake Corum and Hunter Dickinson?  Or do we go with recruits like Walter Nolan and Will Johnson?

Recruits, all the way. We should absolutely pay some via MGoBlog.

The universities that best pool resources and funnel them through sponsorship deals will prosper most.

Also - how long until we see a recruit sign an exclusive deal with a media company to cover recruitment? This cycle?

If I ran a media company, it would be tomorrow by 11 am.  But seriously, the question will be what the universities do help put some framework around all of this.

I hope that Michigan is already putting together networking channels to plug in M alums with recruits and current players (remember the transfer portal!).

I am a partner in a boutique wealth management company and I would love set up some sort of program to work with athletes who are interested in a career in asset management.

Happening soon. Since about 2004 I've called the recruiting services as bad or worse than The NCAA itself. A gross business that gives nothing at all of value to kids for their time and privacy.

If I'm a recruit I become a free agent tomorrow in every way. Recruiting sites can ignore me or pay me for my time/story. Schools can start telling me what they have planned for me (most already have, let's be real).

This changes pretty much everything. If you ever wanted to know if Michigan still cared about football, this is it. This is the test. No bigger, more obvious and beneficial to Michigan test of that question could be administered.

I bought a quarter ounce in 1999 and it lasted me till 2008.  I bought another quarter in 2009 and I ran out just before COVID....

It takes surprisingly little to feel it for 2-4 hours if you don't smoke often.

My roommates in college would smoke a quarter in a couple of days.

25k? My man, you do not know the power of the Michigan Alumni network. We could easily get $1mm from just a single sponsor if that led to 5 star recruits coming on board.

I'm not wasting money on anything football related until I see competent direction and corresponding results. Count me in though on any Basketball recruit that wants to come here, I will gladly open my wallet.

How do we go from “name, image, and likeness,” to, “What would we ask them to do?”

It seems to me that one’s NIL is used in a video game, to sell jerseys or other memorabilia with their autographs, or other advertising. The quickest way to MGoMonetization is having the blog sell autographed copies of HTTV. Speaking of which…

We could start with paying the entire football team to take a picture for our banner.

And if they want Pitbull in the photo we can get him too.
