Wheatley is the coach I was really hoping we would land. What a staff Harbaugh has put together.

Isaac and Green should benefit tremendously from Wheatley and Drevno on the OL

Remember when Desmond said Peppers was the only player who seemed to have a fire under him in practice? I cannot wait for Spring practice, better yet I'm keeping my fingers crossed to buy season tickets for the first time!

Obviously he was a great player, and it sounds like he was Harbaugh's first choice for RB coach, so I am pretty happy that he is coming here based on that alone (IHWT). What has his track record been like since he started coaching? It looks like he had a few 1 year stints, including EMU. Then he coached at Syracuse for 3 seasons, and he coached at Buffalo the past two seasons. Any great success stories from any of those stops? (I don't really follow any of those teams).

but Biakabutuka was a close second. Can't forget his 313 yards rushing vs. Ohio in '95. My only question in regards to Wheatley, how does he let his son grow up being a Trojan fan?

I taught Tyrone Jr. In Middle School and had the opportunity to see, first hand, what this man is about. Tyrone was a serious student, but if dad had the slightest sense that he was slipping, he'd be at school immediately in the middle of the day - 5 minutes tops and that's fast coming from Eastern. In the several meetings that we had, I saw a father who absolutely got it. I wish I had written down the things he said to Tyrone, but what he did say was all about character building and academics -number one. I left those meetings " wanting to be a better teacher." Hell, I wanted to play football for him. Amazing hire. He will do great things at Michigan and for our student athletes so fortunate to learn from him. He's as intense and as much of a jackhammer as Harbaugh. They're a perfect team.

I love this hire!

Also want to thank Fred Jackson. Things slowed down towards the end, but he was a top notch recruiter and coached some great backs at Michigan.

I grew up watching TW laying waste to droves of fools but don't know much about him as a coach. How is he as a skill developer and recruiter. I am assuming that since he made it to the NFL he must know a thing or two but is he as great in the mind of a high school senior?

but these pictures remind me why I'm nostalgic for the helmet stickers. Look at that guy. He was an incredible football player and has made us proud ever since.

While I support whatever his son chooses to do, it would be a shame if he didn't carry on the family name here.

I don't blame him if he wanted to blaze his own trail. If you were of to college to be a star on the football team, would you want your dad always around, keeping check on you. I wouldn't.

If he comes, that would be great, but I don't blame him for going to another school.....so long as it's not another B1G school. Or ND.

Not surprisingly, same thing Harbaugh goes on and on about. Family. Being rooted in the tradition and meaning a family brings. It's everything - core. I can't explain it any better than that. This passion for family will extend into the Michigan program. Seems like a no brainer, but this shift in thinking is huge. I've seen it work.

Sorry if I already posted this which I tend to do and can't figure out why, but the poster about Michigan House, we weren't co-ed in 75. I do remember Adams House, upstairs was notorious for hazing hockey players though. They used to shave and tar and feather them. Can you believe that you U of M babies? Awful!

I remember an sports illustrated article around the time when Wheatley was deciding on whether to stay for his senior season that claimed with his nfl money he could buy a small college if he didn't get a degree. I was in eighth grade and I thought that was a stupid thought even then. That being said he'd be a great addition to the staff.

I remember Wheatley was a beast. Also remember Ricky Powers and Tony Boles. Hope Michigan can get back to putting out great running backs like it is no big deal.

You guys have not even a clue what it was like. I spent my college years watching Schembechler every Saturday. I hope finally my fellow Michigan brethren will know how that feels again with Coach Harbaugh.

Welcome back again Tyrone!  He was a volunteer asst track coach for UM in 2005. Dude was still fit and had a look of intensity whenever I saw him at indoor meets.

Hart might've had more yards, but I'd take Wheatley any day of the week. It seemed like he had a 60-yd td run every game.

I think the biggest opportunity for Wheatley is to teach our RB to wait for the hole to develop. Watching Melvin Gordon you saw a guy who was patient, let the blockers finish, and then explode. Denard got big yards because he did this behind the same line our RB did not have near the success.

Who can forget the 93 Rose Bowl where Michigan was down start of the 3rd Q and we had a miserable 12 yard return to be near our goal line. Second play from the line of scrimmage Wheatley takes the ball, breaks a tackle at the line, cuts to the sideline, and that was it. I had never seen such a combination of size and speed. I think Green can be that kind of back. We actually have great depth there and Wheatley can do what no one has fixed so far: make Michigan into a running team again.
