After watching video of him earlier today I only have one question: does he have any eligibility left?

Gordie Bell, and I believe TW was THE most elite of any of the running backs Michigan had, at least from a pure talent point of view. Yes, Mike Hart had more yards. But Wheatley had the best combination of speed, size, power, and running ability that I've seen.

Fred Jackson actually ran out of words to describe Wheatley.

Out of words to describe Wheatley? You must be referring the Buffalo Bills running back, Fred Jackson.
U-M's Fred Jackson said Wheatley was "Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap offensive lines in single bound".

Wheatley was Brandon Minor with Denard Robinson speed. He was insanely gifted and unbelievably good. And despite his reputation as a track guy he could pick up tough yards between the tackles.

This. People forget Wheatley was a track star as well as being a football star (high school and college all american, and still holds a MHSAA long jump record). The NFL saw him as a power back and bulked him up too much, but in HS and College, guy was lightning fast.

Gordie Bell was always fun to watch, but he was the most fun when he was a raw rookie Sophomore in 1973. He only played in garbage time, but he approached it like it was the Super Duper Bowl. He looked like he had come straight from Junior High--but he ripped off yardage in large chunks, bounced up, and went back for more.

We had it in spades and the WRs were expected to block as well. It's been a looooooong time.

I agree with you on Wheatley. I was speaking of the line of running backs from Jamie Morris, Hoard, Bunch, Vaughn, Powers, Perry, etc.... Wheatley was the best of the lot, but Michigan churned out running backs like no other program.

most loaded backfield since Willie Heston and whoever backed him up.

Pretty confident in saying this staff has a 0% fail rate. Won't be overnight, but within a couple years, this program will bounce back a la USC/Bama, etc.

IT WORKED! Don't under estimate the power of the Red Robin & those (NSFW) Bottomless Fries....
We need to take every official recruit there for dinner to seal the deal.

Just imagine, possibly 5 NFL coaches goings "backwards" and leaving the NFL for college! Adam Schefter just wet himself.

With the coaching staff fairly complete, we now we move to the netherworld of off-field support football personnel. This dark web of high-quality behind-the-scenes staff is the next level of competition about which to worry.
This group works with players and generates mountains of data for the HC and 9 "official" assistants. Nick Saban has been a the forefront of this trend with millions of dollars of the football budget going to support this effort. The NC2A is trying to reign in this arms race. Check out this story:

I recall another, better story (in Si?) on this with more detail on the gearheads and data-jumkies on Saban's staff, but couldn't locate it on the Interwebs. Anyone?
Moar Searchbits plz?
