What would mental health care professionals say about MGoBoard use?

i was out of work for 14 months and looking for jobs i always had mgoblog open on my computer and was constantly refreshing the site to make sure it was updated... if i'm not going to be near a computer for a day, i'm checking the site on my phone... now that i'm back to work full time on the site has gone down, but as soon as i wake up the first thing i do is get on mgoblog and the first thing i do when i get home is get on mgoblog... they always say the first step to recovery is to admit that you have a problem, but i'm not sure i want to do that yet...

I am a recent grad, and I have been looking for a job for the last 7 months and mgoblog is always up. Damn I need a job!

Lucky for me I didn't use mgoblog when I graduated... but anyway... use your networks! Start calling alumni... I'm serious. My dad made me call alumni from Michigan and even from his alma mater... Notre Dame. Unfortunately the ND alumni proved triumphant in helping me land a gig in consulting.

That or move somewhere with a better job market. I just graduated in April, and moved to Austin about a month later when searching in southeast Michigan proved fruitless. Not only did I land a job as soon as I came down, I actually got recruited for a better one 3 months later. (By someone who saw my resume on CareerBuilder, believe it or not.)
My degree was in computer engineering, and Austin is a big tech center, so YMMV if you were a different major - but the best advice I can give to a Michigan grad looking for a job is to leave Michigan.

would tell you that you needed to take the namebrand of whatever medication was written on their coffee cup. You would take it, feel the same way that you did before, but report major imoprovements in your overall mood. They would smile, nod, and proscribe it to the next patient, regardless of their symptoms. It is a very effective treatment.

If I had a mental health professional, he/she would say "How many hours did you say you spend there?"
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:54 AM ^
They would then remind me that the mgoblog isn't a viable substitute for friends and a life.
This would leave me on the couch, covering my ears and screaming, "YES IT CAN! YOU LIE! WHY DO LIE TO ME?!?!? THE POSTERS ARE MY FRIENDS NOW!"

The fact that this kind of a place can be really unhealthy from a psychological standpoint has occurred to me several times, most recently on the Friday before the UConn game, when there were like 45 posts a minute it seemed. Then I realized I didn't want to think about it too much, or about what the fact that I spend such a great deal of time following Michigan Football. What that would say about me would probably not be good.

MGoBlog is a self-selected community of people with similar backgrounds and interests. To draw an analogy to 19th century America, it is an ethnic neighborhood within the larger context of the internet's urban landscape. It's a little slice of the old country in a scary new world and the culture shock of this new place (Michigan's recent struggles) requires others who speak the language and know the ways of home. We cannot keep out the rest of the city, but we can feel safer here for a while before we have to venture out back into the occasional hellish landscape the rest of the city has to offer.

and in 2 1/2 hours 8 people have responded to this in the wee hours of the morning, I'm going to say they would enter the neighborhood of "unhealthy addiction."

I have a couple of those in my immediate family (one of whom is a 'blog reader) and we've had some light (and humorous) discussions. (Family mental health professional, let me know if you see this post!)

I type the site name in reflexively. Like when I freeze up working on a project on word or whatever, my fingers type the site name with no conscious thought. Happens a half dozen times a day or so.
Figured not having a direct link would cut down on use. Nope.

Those of us who were bottle fed need it to comfort us in bad times, and to entertain us in good times. I just hope it doesn't sag over time!

This comment made my day and its only 9:30am. Although, I'm not sure what that says about the kind of day I'm expecting . . .

They would say that Lexapro is not nearly strong enough for the depression in these individuals.

in most cases, those that know me best probably look down on MGoBlog as a vice that I abuse at their expense. This week, I think they're glad I'm ranting here and not in the real worlds.

Only watched part of the Saturday night disaster so I did not feel as bad as previous weeks on Sunday. Stayed away from MGoBlog on Monday and had a positive, productive day. Returned to our favorite forum on Tuesday night and have been sucked back in to the fire GERG dialog, questions about RRod, did my own recruiting analysis of possible DC's, and had my heart skip a beat with the JT Floyd "lower leg" injury matter. Did not sleep well last night.
Therefore to me MGoBlog has all the hallmarks of an addiction. It does not make our life any better, can many times make us feel worse, and yet we cannot fully separate ourselves from reading the posts and sharing with our fellow suffering fans. It also has a lot of similarity to co-dependency as we don't like what we see and feel but still come back for more.
So since MGoBlog has members with addictions and co-dependency issues, this makes us no different than most American families. In families there is strife, differing opinions, but ultimately love and respect for the members and the family as a whole. Therefore to be an MGoBlog member, is like being in a family, which is akin to being an American, which is still one of the best things in the world.
GO Blue and Go MGoBlog!

Its an addiction plain and simple. I look on the brightside, at least its cheaper than heroin, cocaine, acid etc.

Would read our grief stricken passages and walk slowly backwards out the door knowing this patient is close to terminal with all the anguish being heaped upon us on a weekly basis.

I can't tell you how many of my mgoblog visits have ended with my girlfriend going, "So do you get to pay attention to me now?"

Basically health plays vital role in our whole life or we can also say that our whole life rotate around our health or fitness level. Even success rate depends on our fitness level. So, i think we should must concentrate on fitness level. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good for fitness as well as easiest form to take the advantages of herbs and plants. In old ages these are used not only for fitness but for curing mardana taqat hakeemabdulraheem.com/mardana-taqat/. Best vegetable for fitness is Ginger which is rich in essential oils and active ingredients, so-called gingerols and shogaols. When the tuber is stored longer, the milder gingerol is transformed into the sharper shogaole. The mildest is therefore fresh ginger. Many of the valuable ingredients sit directly under the skin, similar to apples : So peel the tuber as thin as possible. Anyways, appreciative efforts that you have put to write and share this article with us. Thanks for it.
