We’re the worst! We’re the worst!

Hi five!
January 10th, 2020 at 1:14 PM ^
The BEST at being the worst!
January 9th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
According to research by My Hogg, Detroit does suck.
January 9th, 2020 at 6:27 PM ^
Sports aside, at least Detroit has a proud and mostly rich history of municipal government.....
January 9th, 2020 at 6:39 PM ^
Kwame Kilpatrick approves this message.?
January 10th, 2020 at 8:15 AM ^
Small business owners loved having him as mayor. Cutting through the city's red tape, of which there is A LOT, was a job easily accomplished by Benjamin Franklin.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:48 PM ^
You get paid in Kreugerrands to make that comment?
January 10th, 2020 at 9:03 AM ^
Don't let that fool you. The rest of the municipalities make enough money that you just haven't noticed what they take for themselves.

I remember when Detroit (area) was the the absolute best sports town in the world. Now it's in the down cycle, and it's a different sports landscape. NBA feels like wellw never be revelant again. NHL young and hopefully upcoming, esp with Yzerman involved. Lions...haaaa! Tigers? Gonna be a while.
So we really need our U of M football and basketball teams to carry us through, but both are in a wait and see, with basketball looking really good potentially. Football...please!! Please become elite again!
January 9th, 2020 at 6:45 PM ^
Sadly, when you look at ownership, there’s every reason to think this cycle is going to last a while.
Bill Davidson and Mike Illitch were committed owners who loved winning and were willing hire good people to run the teams and spend the money needed to get the necessary players.
Tom Gores and Ilitch’s children don’t have any of those qualities and they just see the teams as fancy toys and investments.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:32 PM ^
Uh, let's not forget that POS Tom Holland who has spent the last decade pissing away the Detroit Red Wings' 20-25 year long run of excellence.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:20 PM ^
The dude who plays Spiderman?
January 9th, 2020 at 9:20 PM ^
Double
January 9th, 2020 at 10:50 PM ^
Pretty impressive for Spiderman to be ruining the wings between all those marvel movies
January 9th, 2020 at 6:39 PM ^
Yeah but at least they got the beautiful District Detroit that was promised as a part of the construction of the LCA.........Oh, wait.
January 9th, 2020 at 6:45 PM ^
More than New York and its seven teams?
January 9th, 2020 at 7:20 PM ^
New York adds up to 214 and that is including losses in 2020.
Not counting Brooklyn or Buffalo, only the "New York" teams. Edit I am an idiot this doesn’t include early 2019
January 9th, 2020 at 7:21 PM ^
I didn't dig into it that deeply, but I think it's based on any 4-team set, so the comps for NY and LA would be limited to any 4 of their teams you wanted to use in a given calendar year
January 9th, 2020 at 10:21 PM ^
Couldn't be "any" 4 teams. Mets + Yankees +Rangers +Knicks for sure had worse years than that. Would have to be one in each sport.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:50 PM ^
Oh, so that's how Cleveland has avoided the list.
January 9th, 2020 at 11:02 PM ^
No one will challenge Detroit’s dominance in this field so long as the Tigers continue to rack up 100 or so losses every year—and we have at least a couple more years of that coming. Maybe Baltimore with the Orioles, but the Ravens are good and no basketball or hockey to participate.
January 10th, 2020 at 1:01 AM ^
It shows. You provide no link and give us no information about the researcher.
January 9th, 2020 at 6:46 PM ^
None of these teams are getting any better, and Michigan’s winter programs aren’t doing great, either.
It’s going to be a long, cold, dark winter.
January 9th, 2020 at 7:21 PM ^
On the bright side, our days are getting longer.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:04 PM ^
48 sec per day, baby
January 9th, 2020 at 6:55 PM ^
This can't be true if we're talking aggregate because some markets have twice as many teams. The NY market probably beats this annually because they have two baseball teams, two hockey (plus the knicks!) which is gonna rack up the losses even if the teams are mediocre.
Chicago probably had a lot of years beating this when the hawks, cubs and sox were bad.
Wonder if this is limited to teams with four or fewer teams?
January 9th, 2020 at 7:00 PM ^
I believe the key is 4. One from each league.
January 9th, 2020 at 7:23 PM ^
See above. It's based on 4-team/league comps.
January 9th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
New York is at 214 and that includes losses in 2020. Yanks, Mets, Jets, Giants, Rangers, Islanders and Knicks. That just shows how bad Detroit really was last year.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:13 PM ^
Well the Tigers had 114 of those losses so there's that.
January 9th, 2020 at 7:08 PM ^
DBPONE
Detroit ownership
January 9th, 2020 at 7:10 PM ^
At least we’re setting some records one way or the other
January 9th, 2020 at 7:57 PM ^
Wow. As a Yankee/Giant/Knick fan I...feel pretty good now.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:04 PM ^
It’s ok. Detroit’s population is shrinking more slowly than it was in 2010, so it’s not all bad.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:34 PM ^
At least we will always have that time we beat the crap out of the Avalanche at the Joe
January 9th, 2020 at 10:57 PM ^
Mike Vernon and Patty Roy going at it at center ice. Scotty Bowman baiting Marc Crawford into totally losing it. Darren McCarty dragging Lemieux around like rag doll. That rivalry was the best.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:18 PM ^
Terrible
January 9th, 2020 at 9:43 PM ^
Quick, somebody start an NHL team in Cleveland
January 9th, 2020 at 9:58 PM ^
The only Detroit team i have any hope for moving forward is the Wings. Even then theyre a minimum of 2 years away.
January 9th, 2020 at 11:05 PM ^
Glass half full view... It's 45 and not snowing and parking is really easy, cheap when going downtown. Premium seats are a great value (you can drink and eat all you want in the Pistons LCA Club sections for $120ish). Beilein " what was I thinking?" revenge tour comes back on the 27th almost as much drama as with Duchess "Megsit".
January 10th, 2020 at 2:26 AM ^
Lies all Lies
I can post many years that teams in one city combined for 300+ losses even 400+ losses
New York Mets.Yanks,Rangers,Islanders,Knicks have combined for over 400 losses in one calendar year ...at least 5 times and i just started looking
Think about LA having 5-6 teams sometimes
January 10th, 2020 at 7:26 AM ^
This has been covered Ralph.
January 10th, 2020 at 2:55 AM ^
On the plus side, at least we have all four major league sports teams. Few cities can say that.
Making lemonade folks!
January 10th, 2020 at 8:38 AM ^
EDIT: this is problematic (as covered above), due to it having a bunch of caveats that are not mentioned in the original data.
