What do you wanna see out of todays game?

Submitted by rd2w10 on

The small things besides the obvious of total domination.

On offense i wanna see the tackles push the d-ends wide and Patterson step up into the pocket.

A reciever or tight end running free because of a rub play or even a blown coverage. Just something were a play design works.

Consistent running game.

On Defense i wanna see a 3rd and 15 where we give up a 3 yard dump off and just make the tackle.

Special teams i wanna see a 50 yard punt that dont go for a touchback and just solid play.

To go along with that, tackles picking up stunts and twists and Patterson stepping up into the pocket rather than trying to flee it wide.

Not trying to absolve Runyan of blame for his mistakes last Saturday, but it's much easier for an OT if they know the QB is going to step up. It at least gives them an "out" so to speak.

Problem with today is it's going to be a "yeah, but" game. They could win 66-0 and hold WMU to negative total yards, but most questions about this team won't be answered until the Northwestern and Wisconsin games.

I want to see big plays in the passing game, including a passing td. Or two or three. I would like to see a backup tackle or two, just to see what they can do. I want Michigan to be dominant.

I wanna see a big lead for us heading into halftime followed by a second half of Mayfield and Hudson at the tackle spots.  May as well see what we've got with them.

I want to see Michigan come out with intensity after losing last week. Then I want a solid win. I don’t care about if it’s by 40 or by 14. If we get a good lead and run into the line for the next 30 minutes just to be “vanilla” I’m cool with that. Just no dramatics.

I want to see air-raid, WSU style. Let Patterson throw the ball 50 times.  Hopefully his jersey will stay clean and he'll break the record for most passing yards in a game for a Michigan QB.  Gives him confidence, gives the young WRs/TEs confidence, and hopefully gives the line pass-pro confidence.  I'm high on Patterson and I think he can win us some games with his arm/legs.  Running the ball for 300 yds against Western doesn't do much for me and I can't see us running the ball well against Wisconsin or OSU.

I want to see proficient OL blocking, and I want to see the team get back to power football. It would be great to see Steuber, Hudson and Spanellis play. On defense, hopefully the DTs can improve this week.

1. Sustained offensive drives.

2. Improvement along the offensive line

3.  Solid game clock management

4.  Playcalling just stick with rpo and spread although you may be able to run pro against western Michigan your oline is not good enough to run that against any solid opponent.  Just work on what will help the team get better

5.  On defense no big plays

6. On defense no stupid penalties

i want ant to see a complete domination blow out and that is what I should expect the are playing western Michigan

Open up the passing game. I want to see Shea get into a good rhythm with the receivers and tight ends. I think getting the team a lot of experience pass blocking and route running is much more important than showing we can do 'manball' and run it down their throats.

In an ideal world I want to see exactly what it brings to mind when thinking of a team like Michigan playing a team like Western - a complete blow out that you don't even have to watch because the results are so expected that it'll be boring.

What I want to see from the current bizzaro world we live in are very small victories: our QB doesn't get sacked (and I'll accept close calls), an O-Line that looks hungry and can move the ball (but I'll accept just not losing yardage more often than gaining it), and a coach that doesn't look like he just took lithium before he was carted out onto the field. lol

Beyond that, yes, I get that it sounds like a smartass comment but I really mean it sincerely, I just hope we win, because frankly, these days, I'm never confident that that is a given.

I'd like to see a lot of inside zone from M.  Get some work in on that to accentuate the power run game.  Other than that, lots of good blocking by the skill position guys would be nice.

Things I most want to see in order:

1. Establish a dominant running game, with Onwenu/Ruiz/Bredeson looking great on the ground

2. Efficient passing game with decent pass protection

3. Defensive tackles get a clear win against WMU's interior O-line

I just want to see wholesale domination.

Western has a competent offense, but their defense is incredibad and there's no reason they should get pressure on our QBs or keep our receivers in check.

This is the type of game where a truly good team puts up 50+ points.  Not a 1 possession game like AirForce was going into the 4th quarter.

-Stellar pass-pro (no matter who's at Tackle)

-Some O-line experimentation (because now is the time, not later)

-Tons of yards through the air

-A good amount of receptions of 40+ yards (not YAC)

-Rotating DTs that look amazing

-Devin Gil and Ross playing stellar

-Gary, Winovich, and Bush out by halftime or a series or 2 in the 3rd

-Hill and Long need a pick or some great PBUs

-Some O-Line experimentation

-A lot of backups getting heavy rotation and snaps for testing/the future (because the new redshirt rules are absolutely worth taking advantage of, it's free PT/experimentation/maturity, you'd be silly not to utilize it).

A lot of people are going to say great O-line play + rush yardage, but I disagree, we've always been able to run against lower tiers only to get stonewalled against the better teams. I'm not saying we SHOULDN'T run the ball down their throats this game, I'm just saying it's not "something I would 'LIKE' to see", because "seeing it" doesn't necessarily mean anything when we play the big boys.

Brian mentioned in the UFR Offense that he didn't think there was any RPO or Read Option being run. Every play called in that game looked like it might be one of those plays but was actually a pre-planned run or pass (i.e., the sideline knew who was getting the ball and where it was going to go on the play called in). All Patterson had to do was go through the motions.

Space Cyote thought there was RPO with Shea reading the OLB as well as some "packaged plays" designed to be run off RPO or Read Option.

It's really hard to tell watching live whether Patterson is actually executing a real RPO or Read Option. IMO, he should be ready to do this and the offensive coaching staff shouldn't be throttling back the offense to prevent errors through miss-reads by Patterson or, eliminating deep to mid-pass plays because of the risk of an injury to Patterson caused by OT's derfing

Tough call, I know, but I think the offensive coaching staff played to timidly and not to lose v. ND to protect Patterson while Kelly played to win taking Winbush's biggest weakness, passing, and early in the game, bombing the shit out of Don Brown's offense in the process. A big pass play from Winbush scored one TD and set up two others.

So, what I want to see v. WMU is for the offensive coaching staff to (1) Play to win by not throttling the offense and (2) adjust to what comes of that. If I see a weakness in Harbaugh that rears it's head at times, it's over-playing conservatism in both planning the offense for a particular opponent and in game calls.

I want to see the fan base appreciate another day of Michigan football and not go apeshit over whatever small piece of adversity presents itself today.

Unless officiating is the adversity.  Then by all means give the refs hell.

Granted, it is Western Michigan and they gave up, what, about 300 yards rushing to Syracuse.....a nice ground game that I can at least imagine as being reasonably effective in conference play.

Not a comprehensive list, of course.
