i think we should challenge the spot.
The excuse du jour is "RNG".
Even though we were up on OSU 31 - 17 territories.
Plus...
If I looked at the team odds correctly Michigan had what may of been their worst roll of the entire game. 23 territories expected and ended up with 18, a minus 5 on that front. Meanwhile OSU had one of their best rolls of the entire game. I think they had a 19 on expected territories and ended with 23, a plus 4 on that front and a 9 territory turn around.
Michigan is...cursed!
This is the most Michigan outcome I can think of.
This truly is the most OSU vs Mich Outcome possible. Legitimately just unlucky.
Michigan had what may of been their worst roll of the entire game
Yeah... we've heard that multiple times over the course of the game -- "RNG"
I'm bitterly disappointed.
OP is both wrong, and right. We didn't lose. We came in 3rd.
Wow OSU got a ton more players all of a sudden. They had 1,177 on Day 50 and finished with 1,749. Am I reading that right?
They made a ton of burner accounts at the end. Cheating to win is pretty much in OSU's DNA.
Y’all care so much about this game, make burner accounts yourselves.
This was addressed two days ago. Sounds like we had a bunch of burner accounts that were wiped out by the game's mods. Looks like OSU created a bunch at the end and snuck them past the mods.
The NCAA truly is useless.
This is great. Outstanding comment. K
So what you're saying is...
OSU is smarter because they didn't get caught!
**Would you UofM Alum, stop giving them ammo please FFS***
OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD. Stop making excuses for everything all the time.
You guys, it's an online game of Risk yet you feel the need to blame the mods for losing. Michigan loses stuff. It happens. Get used to it and go on with your life instead always trying to pass the blame on some outside force.
As they say, they want it more. Imagine what they would do if this was a high profile game with lots of money and other stakes on the line?
Yeah isn't this the point where Braylon comes out of the woodwork and yells at our Risk "Coach" for doing a shitty job and everyone question whether or not we take the game as serious as the guys down south?
They would probably throw two interceptions inside their own 40 and fumble in the redzone.
Oh... wait...
It wasn't cheating. We were following their recruitment efforts and we had a spike that was similarly significant.
Is this a case of ‘In general, our generals were out generaled?’ I don’t know how this game works
Honestly, it feels that way. I've played a ton of board games over the years (Risk included) and I could not figure out why we kept spreading our resources so thin. Towards the end we had territories up and down the west coast, up and down the east coast, in Ohio, Penn, and Florida. It was like we were trying to win the electoral college. OSU out schemed us - they concentrated their power in the northeast and Ohio, where they could maintain protected territories. Georgia Tech did something similar until its small number of players and power could not hold its borders. We should have challenged OSU for primacy in the NE and spread out from there (my preferred strategy since there are so many small territories which are easier protect) or took over the west and slowly marched east.
Oh, but you don't know anything, the "analytics" people assure us this was the best strategy. Whenever some buzz word is used instead of logical theory, I know some useless scientific theory like "you should drink cold liquids if you are cold" is at play.
Ahhhh... this explains it.... analytics...
So looking at the data, instead of taking into account your opponent... I believe this is one of the reasons we haven't been able to beat them in football as well.
*idiots*
I agree. Our strategy was complete shit. Emotional decisions like going after OSU because they are a rival and attempting to take over Michigan because Michigan. We were too spread out. We had a massive star advantage and wasted it. But RNG was bad, they’ll say. Others will point out the rumors that OSU fans develop and run the game. IT COULDN’T POSSIBLY BE US, WE’RE MICHIGAN! Occam’s razor. We had bad strategy.
OSU chose to attack us. In case you didn't notice, we were in the SW avoiding them and taking on Texas A&M instead. We also never once tried to take over Michigan, so I'm not sure why you're saying we did. We didn't care about taking the Michigan and just tried to maintain a hold in the SW and NE.
Michigan mods also helped develop the game. We got unlucky.
Risk Day 38 - Mom, Dad...Get Our Room Ready Cause We're Coming Home!
Posted by you.
“That's right, we're headed for Ann Arbor! While we hadn't prioritized the Mitten, a couple fortuitous rolls last night have given us an opportunity we didn't anticipate, and that's to liberate the Big House from Badger rule.”
Never once?
No, the Michigan generals were smart and capable. Strategically, they did what they should have on day 50.
Typical...
according to my source, OSU utilized their internet bagmen for the win.
A microcosm of the last 20 years
Starts chanting: Just like football dun dun dundundun
I’m glad I didn’t participate. I don’t want another way for Michigan to disappoint me and Ohio State to apply its dominants.
apply its dominants?
Oh, no. I used the wrong word. Whatever could I mean?
Dominants was the right word. Michigan is full of submissives.
If they don't, what will you have to complain about!?
You must be new here.
This is somehow unsurprising.
Do people actually cheat at stupid games like this, btw? That's sad, because the stakes are so low, and the game so seemingly boring.
I blame our recruiting. Too many 3 stars on defense....
BRUTAL night for RNG on the last night.
Final 10 days of territories held were:
Michigan: 31, 26, 19, 24, 25, 22, 25, 23, 22, 18 (mean 23.5, median 23.5)
Ohio State: 13, 14, 19, 16, 12, 16, 17, 24, 21, 23 (mean 17.5, median 16.5)
Texas A&M: 12, 9, 9, 11, 13, 12, 10, 12, 16, 21 (mean 12.5, median 12.5)
Final was:
Michigan: 18
OSU: 23
Texas A&M: 21
The last time Michigan only had 18 territories was day 32.
Texas A&M never had that many territories before.
Prior to day 49, OSU hadn't had that many territories since day 27.
So either the math guys really bungled the last night or RNG just took us to the woodshed. Or both, I guess.
OSU also owns Michigan in the fake world.
You know what? If OSU fans care that much to go and make some eleventh hour burner accounts to beat random people on the internet in a game that means next to nothing, I say they can have at it. I guess they just cared more. I certainly didn't care enough to even look at any of the threads prior to this one. Much less play.
Microcosm of this rivalry in the last 20 years. One side wants to win, but remembers its a game and treats it as such. The other side wants to win, regardless of the contest, because its a way of life, and losing isn't an option that's even discussed. Because losing brings shame not only to yourself, but to your friends, your family, and everyone you know. Because the punishment for losing might as well be getting sent to the gallows for summary execution. I'm obviously speaking more about the football side of things as opposed to randos playing Risk on the internet, but its certainly a trickle-down effect to the fanbase.
Mich created burner accounts, got caught, and had them removed. Let's ignore that so I can bag on the other guys for doing it. I don't care enough to play, but I care enough to be outraged on a message board.
The other guys did what we did, just better. Our side cares just the right amount and those other folks must be bad people.
I've seen this show before, it was boring the first 100 times.
how's my old buddy?
Definitely have seen this headline on the blog before.
Funny...I know that OSU fans want it more (because it is stated here)...but I don’t see one word about it on 11W
Forum post:
I don't think winning an internet game, even if it involved beating UM, merits a front page post at 11W.
