We lost, OSU won.

We lost despite having a massive resource advantage over our arch nemesis. I hope you enjoyed our last 50 days. East Coast FTW.

If I looked at the team odds correctly Michigan had what may of been their worst roll of the entire game. 23 territories expected and ended up with 18, a minus 5 on that front. Meanwhile OSU had one of their best rolls of the entire game. I think they had a 19 on expected territories and ended with 23, a plus 4 on that front and a 9 territory turn around.

Michigan is...cursed!

OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD. Stop making excuses for everything all the time.

You guys, it's an online game of Risk yet you feel the need to blame the mods for losing. Michigan loses stuff. It happens. Get used to it and go on with your life instead always trying to pass the blame on some outside force.

Honestly, it feels that way. I've played a ton of board games over the years (Risk included) and I could not figure out why we kept spreading our resources so thin. Towards the end we had territories up and down the west coast, up and down the east coast, in Ohio, Penn, and Florida. It was like we were trying to win the electoral college. OSU out schemed us - they concentrated their power in the northeast and Ohio, where they could maintain protected territories. Georgia Tech did something similar until its small number of players and power could not hold its borders. We should have challenged OSU for primacy in the NE and spread out from there (my preferred strategy since there are so many small territories which are easier protect) or took over the west and slowly marched east.

Ahhhh... this explains it.... analytics...

So looking at the data, instead of taking into account your opponent... I believe this is one of the reasons we haven't been able to beat them in football as well.

I agree. Our strategy was complete shit. Emotional decisions like going after OSU because they are a rival and attempting to take over Michigan because Michigan. We were too spread out. We had a massive star advantage and wasted it. But RNG was bad, they’ll say. Others will point out the rumors that OSU fans develop and run the game. IT COULDN’T POSSIBLY BE US, WE’RE MICHIGAN! Occam’s razor. We had bad strategy.

OSU chose to attack us. In case you didn't notice, we were in the SW avoiding them and taking on Texas A&M instead. We also never once tried to take over Michigan, so I'm not sure why you're saying we did. We didn't care about taking the Michigan and just tried to maintain a hold in the SW and NE.

Michigan mods also helped develop the game. We got unlucky.

Risk Day 38 - Mom, Dad...Get Our Room Ready Cause We're Coming Home!

Posted by you.

“That's right, we're headed for Ann Arbor! While we hadn't prioritized the Mitten, a couple fortuitous rolls last night have given us an opportunity we didn't anticipate, and that's to liberate the Big House from Badger rule.”

Never once?

Someone should make another risk thread tomorrow. Then on Wednesday and Thursday. Maybe every day until this blog ends.

Final 10 days of territories held were:
Michigan: 31, 26, 19, 24, 25, 22, 25, 23, 22, 18 (mean 23.5, median 23.5)
Ohio State: 13, 14, 19, 16, 12, 16, 17, 24, 21, 23 (mean 17.5, median 16.5)
Texas A&M: 12, 9, 9, 11, 13, 12, 10, 12, 16, 21 (mean 12.5, median 12.5)

Final was:
Michigan: 18
OSU: 23
Texas A&M: 21

The last time Michigan only had 18 territories was day 32.
Texas A&M never had that many territories before.
Prior to day 49, OSU hadn't had that many territories since day 27.

So either the math guys really bungled the last night or RNG just took us to the woodshed. Or both, I guess.

You know what? If OSU fans care that much to go and make some eleventh hour burner accounts to beat random people on the internet in a game that means next to nothing, I say they can have at it. I guess they just cared more. I certainly didn't care enough to even look at any of the threads prior to this one. Much less play.

Microcosm of this rivalry in the last 20 years. One side wants to win, but remembers its a game and treats it as such. The other side wants to win, regardless of the contest, because its a way of life, and losing isn't an option that's even discussed. Because losing brings shame not only to yourself, but to your friends, your family, and everyone you know. Because the punishment for losing might as well be getting sent to the gallows for summary execution. I'm obviously speaking more about the football side of things as opposed to randos playing Risk on the internet, but its certainly a trickle-down effect to the fanbase.

Mich created burner accounts, got caught, and had them removed.  Let's ignore that so I can bag on the other guys for doing it. I don't care enough to play, but I care enough to be outraged on a message board.

The other guys did what we did, just better.  Our side cares just the right amount and those other folks must be bad people.

I've seen this show before, it was boring the first 100 times.
