We're Expanding: Satellite Camp in Indy Will Also Feature U-M's Coaches in Lacrosse, Volleyball, Cheer

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Jim Harbaugh doesn't just want to steal your football recruits. He wants all your recruits for all your sports.

The AD from Indianapolis Bishop Chatard was on WTKA this morning, and he told Sam that in addition to Harbaugh and his guys, the June 1 satellite camp at his school will feature Michigan's cheerleading, volleyball and men's and women's lacrosse coaches, too.

Your move, Hugh Freeze.

Meet underclassmen(is that the proper term?) students who may be interested in the academics that michigan offers and have them be able to discuss with someone on the academic side at michigan. Talking to faculty is always a strong point on recruiting visits. Bring this interaction to the satellite camp for the athletes and the students in the area who have the ability, but may not have considered michigan.

I would actually agree with this - if we're going to expand the scope of camps, then there isn't really a reason to hold back on the marketing aspect of this and bring the needed resources to give as many students as possible - not just football players - a chance to see what Michigan is all about. Imagine the look on faces in the southeastern US when it dawns on them that we're not coming just for your players, but your entire student population.

They will never admit it, but every university is looking for more apps even if they know you are not qualified. It boosts acceptance rate numbers which are used in a lot of university rankings. Yield rate is probably a better measure of school selectivity (or using both yield and acceptance rates together), but a lot of rankings don't use that for some reason.

What do you mean by selectivity? Are you talking about standardized test scores?

I agree that standardized scores are a big part of the equation. I was only commenting on the difference between acceptance rates and yield, and the fact that you need to look at both. Yield & acceptance rates have some outliers because tiers of students are going to apply to different tiers of schools based on their standardized test scores and GPA. But schools can be bunched together by test scores, and adding acceptance rates and yield to the equation give a more precise look at differentiating schools in different tiers.

Some schools do manipulate their acceptance rates and yield by boosting applications and abusing the wait list so test scores do play a large role. But you have to look at all of them to get the whole picture.

I mean, my info is straight from one of the Ugrad admissions officer's mouth.

I know what you're saying, but UM got 51,000 applications last year. They want to increase yield and applicant quality. If they wanted more applicants, they could just drop their essay requirements and lots of other things.

If ESPN still exists, there's going to be a hell of a 30 for 30 in twenty years about the Harbaugh era at Michigan.

But in 20 years we'll still be in the midst of the Harbaugh era. Jim, at 72, will have just hung up his hat a few years prior after his 15th national championship. He will be Head Coach Emeritus. Jaybaugh will be the new head coach, just coming off his second consecutive national championship. Little Jack will be a position coach, bring groomed to get the experience needed to step in when Jay is done.

Attended this one last year because it is 20 minutes from me.

Switched jobs and am still in school this year!

Thinking of a valid excuse why I should be absent during finals week is a bitch...lol.
