Vishnu sounds like he was a wonderful human being. My best to his family and friends. Stay strong.

Very sad news. A Michigan grad losing his life in a senseless act of violence should not be Way OT or OT at all.

Yes, it should be. People are people. That one of the victims was a UM grad is very, very secondary to the event and the issues it brings up.

This is a Michigan blog. News pertaining to Michigan isn't OT.

I can't believe that people are even debating this, but anything about the University is on-topic, and I'd imagine this qualifies unless I am totally missing the ethos of this site.

I don't think we need a death notice for every Michigan alum who has a tragic death

But considering its a national story, might be of interest to some that a fellow alum was a victim. Also, is this really worthy of debate? There are posts on here all the time about TV shows and other random shit. Debating whether or not a man's tragic death is thread worthy seems quite petty to me.

These discussions are always interesting to me. Note the experince (year joined) of the people making the arguments. In this one, the more senior MGoMembers advocate that this post is not OT (which is clearly correct). Here's a good tip: When in doubt, look to the MGoElders.

from 2010 until last summer. I have dozens of friends that still work there. Even now, it feels like it was all a dream and that it didn't or couldn't actually have happened. That was the LAST place I would've imagined for something like that to occur.
On my way to work (at my current job) yesterday, I kept thinking about how close that damn Akron game was and if we should've done this or that. After I got to work and saw what was on the news, the Akron game became the absolute least important thing.
I often forget how much of a privilege it is to be able to spend a week worrying about how Michigan's going to adjust after such a difficult and close game. And it's those more inconsequential things that should be what worries or upsets people, not what's going through the minds of those twelve families tonight.
Stay safe. Go Blue!

Perspective...it is a quality that most of us lack. Thank you for posting this. We tie ourselves up in the "drama" of our life whether or not it is really important, until we see/hear of real drama/news and then we realize how petty we have been. It is humbling but necessary for each of us to just enjoy rooting for our team, win or lose. I hope Michigan has a great outing this weekend vs Conn, but lets all keep our perspective.

I never get the objections to things like this. If you were forced to read the thread I might understand but simply avoid the click that takes you here let alone post in the topic. I wanted to read about it so I appreciate the post.

Does anybody even care if I thread is considered "overtime" or not?
Just make a succinct, descriptive title so that people can judge for themselves if they want to read it or not.
