vague rumor mongering from GBMW = justin turner

Submitted by los barcos on
i know there was another forum topic on this, but i dont think it was official then. this morning i checked GBMW and they have listed an update, justin turner, as the player not qualified. IF this is true, that is bad bad news for our already shaky depth.....

Anyone know what the deal is? ACT scores, GPA, etc.? I believe this is the last week of school for most students in Ohio, and seniors ususally graduate early.

Please don't let this be true. I was looking forward to Justin Turner the most out of the guys that are not here already. I even thought he could start. DAMN IT!

I thought that is what was said. That he has another opportunity to take the test but if he doesn't qualify then there is trouble. Right? Where is the other Brian at? He knows about this kinda stuff.

Don't mean to sound like a dick, but that is the easiest test ever. I graduated with a 2.9 and did nothing but jerk off and burn in HS and still managed to get honors on four of the five sections as a junior. Unless they've made the test A LOT harder in the last eight years or so years I just don't get how you fail this test.

supposedly it is not grades/GPA ... its problems on a state wide standardized test. The Clearinghouse may not even care about that if someone has the other qualifying scores, etc.

This test is taken for the first time at the end of sophomore year. It's also SUPER easy. The fact that Turner hasn't passed yet means he's probably failed it at least 4 times. I have no idea how he was able to get an 800 on his SATs if he couldn't pass the Ohio Proficiency Test.

It's possible that he has a learning disability in a specific area that is giving him trouble. If he's passed the other 5 sections but is having trouble with just this one, then that could be the issue.

Per people on another website, this is a rumor and is being looked into... By the way the rumor comes from a Butthole fan who is supposedly in the know. Take this for what its worth... Also, Im not an insider and never claimed to be one.

It keeps being described as a "buckeye rumor". To me Turner has always seemed at least somewhat bright to me with what I thought was a pretty good GPA. Until it is proven to be anything more than a "buckeye rumor" started by a buckeye fan then I am not going to believe it.

uhmm, so i dont wanna be bashed for this. but if this is true and turner doesn't qualify, there could be 3 out of a class of 22 academically ineligible...have we ever had this at michigan before?

Okay, this is what my girlfriend, who is a teacher, told me about the Turner situation. There are two parts to the OGT, Math and Reading. The first time you take the test, your sophomore year, there are multiple choice and free-response. If you don't pass this first time, every time after there is only multiple choice. So, the test gets easier, the more times you have to take it. You can take it once your sophomore year, twice your junior year and senior year. Now, the school can award a diploma if the student has the correct exceptions. These would be learning disabilities, high ACT/SAT scores, or high GPA. There are other exceptions, but the school needs to decide if they will give a diploma or not. Once they decide yes, it has to be approved by the State. If he's approved by the state, he's good to go.

tpilews: So what happen's if a student doesn't pass the Ohio state tests? girlfriend: Well, even if they don't pass the first time, they still get more chances. Also, the student can still graduate high school without passing as long as the state approves. Why are you wondering? tpilews: There's this 17 year old who hasn't passed the test yet. I don't know him personally, but whether or not he passes the test is a matter of great importance to me.
