Uniformz: Hideous Adidas Nebraska alternates

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

adidas has really been pushing the fishnet-look on their jerseys.

This is the absolute worst.

I don't get the argyle sweater pattern Adidas is going for this year. Seems more suited for a minor league hockey team's promotional night or something.

I want to tie WD up with this jersey and pour balsamic all over him, rinse him off with trader joe's Merlot, and then light him on fire, but only long enough to singe all his hairs off and burn all of his superguides.  His skin won't be harmed.

I don't absolutely hate these with a passion of all the suns in the universe.  Nor do I believe that a ventriloquist mime is a good idea.

If it ain't broke, fuck with it until it shatters.

Once it shatters, convince them that they need you to put it back together.  After all, you were the one who broke it!

Nah, I'm just kidding.

This is all entirely subjective.  But, to me, the tradition of the classic (and yes boring) uniforms is what makes college football special.  I have no problem with the NFL throwing out new crazy uniforms every year to make a few bucks.  That's what they do.  I just want to see teams like Alabama, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Penn State, USC, UCLA, Ohio State and Michigan roll out there looking the way that they have for decades.  To me, that is part of the "brand" of college football - it is not broken and the schools mess with it at their peril.

I figured that the GOML factor in my post was implied.

Other than the ridiculous logo change I don't think they're bad at all. As an alternate it's what I would want. Do one night game with a blackout jersey (obviously not us, but a team with red as the primary color).

As someone who is in no way vested in the tradition of the Nebraska program, I actually like them quite a bit. They look better than any alternative uniform Adidas has put together for Michigan over the past few years IMO

I seriously don't get the hate. Cmon guys. It's a black jersey with red numbers. It's not like the zubaz nonsense from the NCAA tourney a couple years back. Also to those freaking out about the "fishnet" pattern, i've seen these and the UM version in person, and you literally cannot tell if you're more than 5 feet away from it. It's a functional fabric weave designed to NOT tear and stretch like the stuff adidas used to have. Seriously, its way better. And unless you're lining up across from them on the field, you won't be able to tell it's there.

Yes Adidas has had several misfires, especially for us, but personally, I like all three of these as cool alternatives for a game, especially the UCLA one.  Especially when you remember how boring Nebraska's normal uniform is.  It's straight out of the 1920s and just plain lame.  "Classic" is all well and good, but when "classic" is boring and ugly, then an alternative now and then to fire kids up isn't so bad.

The difference is Michigan's classic look is timelessly badass, Nebraska's isn't.  It's almost as though Wisconsin said "Let's be Nebraska except instead of a boring little plain text w, let's go with a Powerprint Word Art W."  They both have shitty, boring uniforms, and just because they've been around for decades doesn't make them any more boring or shitty.

What I don't get is what makes Adidas think it makes sense to have the Nebraska guy modeling the uni to flash a gang sign.  Or is he flashing a 3 because he's the field goal kicker?  Or is he flashing a 3 because he's watching a basketball game?  Or is he flashing an "E"?  Doesn't compute and for that and only that, I trash Adidas on this one.

Miami's look like Miami, and UCLA's aren't bad, but those Nebraska unis look gross. I get the "blackshirts" thing, but dear lord, they just look odd to me. Complete whiff on that one, in my opinion.
