Under new rules, can NCAA suspend next HC for violations under JH tenure?

I'm wondering if the next HC can still end up being suspended since that person will be the head of the program.  Has anybody on this forum delved into the rules that far?

Well said infractions happened under head coach Jim Harbaugh… he just got out of Dodge so if the NCAA wants to pursue him so be it … Moore has absolutely nothing to worry about !!

I'm not so sure.  Remember Coach Moore was also suspended for the first game of the season.

That being said, I highly doubt they suspend him again.  I think we can sleep soundly knowing Coach Moore will be on the sidelines for every game of the 2024 season.

I think you got it backwards. The mandate is that it DOES NOT impact those with no culpability. This was best displayed in the NCAA's "punishment" of Tennessee, where per the letter of the NCAA punishment guidelines the committee that hands our punishment was required to have much harsher penalties but didn't, citing the desire not to punish the current players and staff for sins of the previous regime.

Under the new rules, maybe they can.  If the HC is the program, it doesn't matter if he knew about a violation, so why would it matter if he wasn't here?  Some idiot in the NCAA could think that way.  The B1G suspended JH 3 games with similar thinking.  I am at the point that I always expect the dumbest thing possible from the NCAA, and the B1G, too.  They still hate Michigan, even though JH is gone.

Considering the NCAA awarded Michigan the title saying it was "earned" and their thorn for revenue sharing and general defiance is gone, they will back off most likely, especially since they came out against FSU and others for recruiting violations. NCAA got the best end of the deal: a big brand blue blood winning the title and in the news year round, their annoyance gone and allowing them to continue status quo.

Not sure but knowing The NCAA they'll think of something. I'm convinced that any chance of Jim's return after a season like this was killed by the NCAA bullshit. They were coming to go in dry on him over hamburgers and a couple zoom calls. No way he was going to stay and deal with that BS if he got any NFL offer.

Michigan will have to deal with something coming from that stuff. But sure what or how though.

OSU is going to get into trouble for Catapult and other things. Book it. That program is dirty and have made enemies of Michigan and Alabama boosters.

As one green monster once said “This isn’t over. It will never be over.”

Also NCAA will cease to exist within two years.

They’re going to hit Jim with a meaningless five year show cause and congratulate themselves on how tough they are.  Then, in two years, they won’t even be a thing anymore.

Harbaugh fell on the sword already for the team's sake last year.

Love Jim and everything he did, but the NCAA was never going to let him be, specifically after challenging the status quo on rev share, TV contracts and structure around player compensation. Guy is a ball coach, culture builder, not a fund raiser or politician.

The NFL is the right place for Jim and we should be thankful for the near decade he gave us and returning UM to elite status the past 3 years, shitting on football factory OSU, and delivering the National Title - allowing an alumnus like myself and many lifelong fans to die happy and with a dream season in our memories.

The challenge for UM will not be some bs  "hammer" sanctions - a fever fanfic dream for the OSU and MSU dolts - but the ability to adapt to the new realities in CFB, as this was the final year where the sport was feigning amateur athletics. UM was slow to adapt to the BCS and CFB playoff eras - watching OSU, the SEC and other soulless football factories pass them by until these last few years.

Frankly, this National Championship was the ultimate, along with the past 3 years of ruining OSU, as the sport is now going full on NFL minor leagues, but we ended it on a high note.  I'll always root for UM and support the team, but don't think my passion will ever reach what it has been the past couple decades, and not sure my joy of the past 3 years - no matter the future wins - can ever be replicated.

Incredibly, highly doubtful that the NCAA can nor would issue any suspensions for non HCs. Under what legal argument - NONE!!!!!

I fully expect JH leaving means Charlie Baker and NCAA and Little Tony P drop any remaining charges and UM is fully functional in 2024.

If you think about it, Michigan suspended Harbaugh for 3 games on their own. We really should have three in the can and should go out and do some sort of violation. Maybe buy some subs?

The rule about the head coach being responsible for any misdeeds committed by staffers pretty clearly refers to the head coach at the time. So, no, it doesn't appear the NCAA can directly discipline his successor (though it could conceivable punish the program with probation, scholarship reductions or whatever).

The NCAA has a bug up their ass about Harbaugh, not so much Michigan.

I suspect with Harbaugh gone, they will be bored with just plain old Michigan and move on to other things more interesting to them.

God forbid, they may actually take a look at what is being done with NIL that was never the intent.

My uneducated guess is if Moore is hired, the only way he gets suspended is if he is tied to the signgate situation. If memory serves correctly wasn't he suspended the first game of this last season for recruiting violations Jim was suspended for the first 3? If so I don't think he gets any more for that or at worst it would be a game.

If a coach untied to the current regime is hired then they would not serve any suspension for past infractions.
