Lots of good stuff today from some of Michigan's recruits at UA game. Quite a few people were impressed with Peppers today.
Under Armour All-American Game First Day Of Practice Reactions
... but right now Michigan is an elephant's graveyard of wasted talent... I surely hope that turns around SHARPLY starting with these young men.
you never created an account. Should be a watch period before being allowed to post.
... It's like Michigan fans never like hearing the truth.
I'm critical of my team because I love my team.
Consider yourself the Mel Gibson of mgoblog..
in a year or two. When we have a team with 5 or 6 contributors amongst the entire 4th and 5th year classes, I don't think we can make a fair assessment. Right GoDamn?
I'm critical of you. Not because I love you. I'm just critical.
I hope it turns around sharply with the guys that are already on the team. The 2014 class, while talented, isn't going to magically come in and lead us to an undefeated season. Basketball maybe, but not football, and especially not in the Big 14 East division.
At the end of a tunnel....maybe?
Believe it!! Go Blue!!
I felt like a lot of those tweets were to be like "Hey come look at Scout! Pay! Pay! Pay!"
Regardless, it's still good to see good things about recruits. The future is bright!
No kidding -- I was wondering if "KyleBogie" is Fred Jackson's Twitter name.
Correct. Someone find these "scouts" takes from last years class and compare/contrast the "he could start from day one" comments to what actually transpired on the field this year.
I may still be in a Debbie Downer period but FML I'm tired about hearing how awesome X is (be it a recruit, underclassmen or upperclassmen) and then seeing them get blown up on the field.
These guys might disagree...quality recruits making meaningful contributions as true Freshmen.
Jake Butt, Kyle Bosch, Sione Houma, Eric Magnusson, Ben Gedeon, Derrick Green, Shane Morris, Deveon Smith, Dymonte Thomas, Channing Stribling
Ten contributing true Freshmen. That's crazy, or at least not conducive to winning.
Look at the 4th and 5th year depth players on the depth chart. Problematic imbalance.
Young players are going to make mistakes and are, often, not as physically prepared to play at the B1G level. Michigan had ten of those players making regular contributions this season. I don't think any "expert", regardless of upside seen on any player, would think that almost 50% of your true Freshmen should see the field.
Is there a chance Peppers ends up playing safety at Michigan or is he expected to play exclusively at corner?
There is a possibility that he could play safety at some point. However, I think the coaching staff really wants to keep him at CB.
I was thinking that was probably the case. There is going to be so much speed in the secondary with him and Dymonte Thomas back there.
Nice avatar. They're my favorite band.
Same here. i wasn't expecting anyone on here to recognize my avatar. That's awesome. Saw them in Royal Oak a few weeks back. They were amazing!
Yeah Lewis and Stribling are both great athletes as well. With them seeing playing time already in their freshman seasons, I'm sure we'll see more of them. You could see Countess, Peppers, Thomas, Lewis, and Stribling all making big contributions next year and 2015. 2015 could be an amazing year for that secondary. Peppers would be in his second year. Stribling, Lewis, and Dymonte in their 3rd years. Plus, Countess would be a 5th year Senior with a ton of experience.
The defense in 2015 should be fantastic and that does indeed sound like it could be quite an entertaining bunch when the time comes.
Pass rush. There is none now and all the elite DE's are going elsewhere. Michigan NEEDS some pass rush or is going to have to scrap Mattison's defense because bend don't break is all snap like a brittle piece of glass without some pass rush.
Who are Michigan's defensive line coaches?
Michigan finished #67 in the country with 1.92 sacks/game.
Of the 25 sacks, 11.5 came from defensive linemen, plus 2 from Brennen Beyer (who was a part-time linebacker, so I don't know where those 2 sacks fit in).
I see what you did there.
Pass rush does have something to do with it. I think Henry, Clark, Jake MF Ryan, and company should really improve the pass rush next year though. Michigan has a ton of young guys that they recruited for the d-line. Hopefully next year we start seeing some of them make an impact and get some good playing time.
Yeah, or perhaps he can show up and play like a senior his freshman year.
when he's sitting in a soft zone and playing 10-12 yards off the receiver?
The day more than likely, you WIN!
The only good play our secondary made Saturday night was when Stribling played tight coverage on Lockette and kncocked him off the line....
Too bad we only did it once....*sigh*
Ref got in his ear about that too, backed off the next snap.
Even the announcers commented on how that was the first time all game UM had jammed Lockette at the line of scrimmage.
No kidding, I am pretty tired of our "safe" defense. Towards the end of the year the D got burnt by long plays anyway. So I was saying, "What the hell, we're getting burnt anyway, so they might as well blitz and get after the QB".
He would make a game changing all-american safety at a position where we neec help. Hw would also be the same at corner where we are deeper. I like him at corner if we are going to play big boy football but we would be wasting his talent if keep playing our corners with a 17-22 yard cusion.
Always nice to hear recruits are doing well. However, what else would they really say? Good things=more clicks
Well I know last year they reported on Morris' accuracy issues among other things. I'm sure they like sharing good stuff, because they are Michigan fans as well. And I'm sure good news is more clicks, but they do report honestly. It's nice to see some positive stuff. Especially the Speight tweet about him having zip on the ball. One of the knocks on him was he had a weak arm. Also, it's not like they tweet out that every player is the best they've seen, so it's good to see Peppers is so far living up to his billing.
Negative comments work to get clicks too. Fans love to freak out (see MGoBoard).
This is directly from GBW.
look like a compilation of tweets.
Paywalled info? I posted this directly from the twitter accounts of Sam Webb and the other reporter. Click the dates that are in each quote box. You'll see that the stuff I posted goes directly to twitter. Do you honestly have no idea what twitter is?
Be right back, I think the police are at the door.
I'm sorry, but I just can't buy into anymore hype... I've done it the past two seasons and have been left bitterly disappointed. However, I'm really happy that these young men are looking good and are on their way to representing the University of Michigan.
There will be room when you want a seat.
Hi, I'm College Football. Have we met?
Are there ever Twitter posts about how bad someone looks? I'm guessing that there are, but by definition, everyone can't be good. It just seems different levels of smoke-blowing.
I'm glad we seem to have some talented young men coming in, but the only thing I care about is they avoid injury and we don't have any major defections. 2014 is the critical year, and it will be determined (except for perhaps Peppers) by the development of the "stud" recruits who have already been on campus for a year or two.
I was hoping I'd click on this thread and get to read 150 replies of everyone arguing about MSU this, or fire Hoke that, 7-6 is better then 6-7 in year 3 yadda yadda yadda.. Guess I'll check back tomorrow
FWIW, espn didn't think too highly of Wilton's play. Said he (and all the other qb's) looked okay but we're missing too many easy passes, particularly given the fact they weren't facing a real defense in drills.
Too much of recruiting is "Wow X is probably the best player in his class at his position!" or "Instant impact guy! Looks awesome!" which results in endless streams os hype that usually fall flat. Its good to hear somebody say "No, that guy pretty much looks like a 4*/3* tweener and is in fact not the greatest recruit ever"
Thanks, I honestly tried to find all of the stuff I could. Today there's a ton more info out and guys are starting to post more "negative" things. Speight threw a pretty bad pick to Peppers today.
says about Jabrill Peppers in that article, but not curious enough to subscribe. Anyone wanna help me out with some info, without posting too much paywalled stuff?
He said that Jabrill watches reruns of the Care Bears and has the largest collection of My Little Pony in the state of New Jersey.
Imagine how good Jabrill would be if he actually cared about and focused on football instead of these other hobbies!
rub a purple Care Bear in the face of Jake Ryan on the sidelines.
Gerg + Beaver = = Rodriguez + Tears
I would welcome a whole pile of Care Bears.
into some inside access for LSA?
The creeper van originals are my favorite!
sounds like an elite athlete. If he's that head/shoulders better than most others, I hope they USE him, and use him a lot (offense and/or special teams..assuming he can handle the learning curve).
