Not much of surprise considering the fan bases, the undefeated records, the rivalry and what was at stake.  Also what else was on at noon other than the demise of Clemson.  I would have watched it too if I hadn't been there to see it for myself.  I watched the fourth quarter Saturday night at the hotel.

Well, that's a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison: Thanksgiving day has people with a football game -- any football game -- on the TV, and there's not much else competing for the viewers.  The last Saturday of the college season is devoted to various rivalry games, so the audience was split.  Drawing 17M eyes under those conditions is quite the feat.

Also, for comparison, the finale episode of M*A*S*H drew something like 81 million viewers.

Most watched regular season game in 11 years? Wow. They all get to watch "world famous Buckeyes" get their ass kicked. And the sideline demeanor of Ryan Day and Buckeyes was glorious for all to see. The defeatist attitude. Especially that 7 minute drive with JJ 3-yard run. Couldn't have happened to a better program.

Off topic about the theathletic.com article he linked.

The media is a fickle thing. If by some chance two neutron stars and a black hole merged and opened a rip in the space time continuum where a Ohio State football team from a parallel universe showed up to play and won Saturday. Everyone and their brother would be dogging on Harbaugh about how his old timey football was the reason for the loss.

The win is unfathomably important to the program for this and many other reasons.

Agree it is common to talk about what is wrong in a loss and how awesome everything is in a win.

Since we won, and it was an away game, it will really excite recruits and really reduce NFL talk and other Harbaugh detractions. Finebaum, Cowherd, many others who have had questionable thoughts in the past will continue to change their tune and see Harbaugh in a better light. The PR angle is huge.
