UM likely to be #1 in college hockey

Excellent sweep of the Icebreaker tournament.  Just beat the #5 and #1 teams on a near-road environment.

Looking to take the #1 spot as of the next rankings.

Damnit. Not a huge hockey fan but they sucked me in in 2010 and I almost had a heart attack during the championship game that year. Might have to jump back in this year.

They also split with Minnesota State last weekend. So it’s not like Michigan’s win tonight is going to really put them over the top, as SCSU has the same win. It’ll be interesting what the rankings look like.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see SCSU at #1 if they complete the sweep against #4 Minnesota. In fact I’d say that’s the more likely #1

Early season/sample size caveats apply, but Pairwise had us #4 after last nights game. Added a win against #9 Minnesota State today. Duluth is #17 after last night for comparison. Definitely a strong resume building tournament for us.

Edit: Duluth beats Providence and moves up to #6. Michigan’s win over Minnesota State makes Michigan the new #1 in the Pairwise Rankings.

With SCSU splitting tonight, I think we'll be a near unanimous #1. SCSU and Minnesota both might pick up a few stray votes since they were both getting votes before and split, but we should be a clear #1 this week with probably 2-3-4 being a tight grouping of SCSU, MSU, and Minnesota not necessarily in that order

TBH when you make history with five first rounders and when the rankings come out only to have us at #3, I thought that was a little silly.

Maybe that's their motivation!?

Young teams struggle sometimes because there can be such a difference in age between schools that recruit draft picks and schools like Mankato that focus on building with overagers. There have been some recent Wisconsin and I think BU teams that had several first rounders but they didn’t amount to anything truly great. It looks like Michigan may be something different

Reminds me of that NoDak fan giving our player the bird after the EN goal in 2010/2011. Makes it that much sweeter!
