Note that he also played in the '92 Rose Bowl, and had a 53-yard TD.

the BS touchdown Washington got early in the game where they fumbled into the endzone for what should have been a touchback. Every time we played on the West Coast (before replay) some total BS call always went against us.

Loved this game!! Seemed like every other time he carried the ball he took it to the house.

And now Jr. must uphold the family name! Congrats, Wheatleys!

In the 1992 Rose Bowl Wheatley ran for 68 yards on 9 carries and took one 53 yards to the house as well. As a Freshman.

> "He said, 'Dad, you're not watching this? He broke your record!' I said, 'Records are meant to be broken, son.' I went back to bed, and he was shaking his head."
That's one hell of a quote!

oh hes great, rock solid dude. tough to dislike anything about someone when they make those type comments.
ill never forget some of the plays he made in the rose bowl - wheatley running through and past washington defenders is one of the first things that comes to mind when i think rose bowl.

Congratulations to Tyrone Wheatley!
I was reading the article, and of course:
Then it was off to the races for Wheatley, breezing down the middle of the field. Two safeties, the last defenders with a chance, had angles on him. But they didn't have Wheatley's speed and he blew through them as if they weren't there.
I think this was the "Wheatley......Wheatley explodes!.......They won't catch him!" call too, which happens to be one of the better calls in the Rose Bowl, and not just because of who it is, but how you had thie image of a broadcaster trying to find words sufficient to describe the beauty of the play.

Awesome photo:
Ah, the days when there were no swooshes, three stripes or B1G logos on the jersey, just a maize number on a blue background.
