TX WR Massington names Michigan his leader?

Another Tremendous recruiting update.

http://thisismichiganfootball.blogspot.com/2012/03/eldridge-massington-u...

Personally, I would love to pluck a top-notch recruit out of Mack Brown's backyard, especially one that would fit into the slot of a skill position of need. Interesting tidbit about LSU in the article. Here is to hoping Eldridge makes a visit soon. He and Treadwell together would be down right nasty.

Not going to make any comment about what I think of him as a WR because I haven't watched any yet (though his height and weight are nice), but it does seem a bit odd he doesn't really have any Big 12 offers yet.  Maybe it's because they think they can swoop in later and pick him up if they miss out on a few guys above him, as it shows interest but no offers from Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma St.  It will be interesting how this one unfolds in the near future (especially with an LSU visit coming up).

He is great at going up and getting the ball.  Really high points the ball and is athletic enough to know how to use his body and come down with difficult catches.  His speed is probably average.  He stays about even with the guys going against him (and not knowing the compitition) that makes it seem like he won't be a burner but is decent with speed.

I biggest worry is about his route running and elussiveness after the catch.  He doesn't seem to have good, fluid hips and is a long strider, meaning he doesn't really break in and out of cuts and doesn't make many people miss in the open field.  Very raw player. He is a possession WR all the way, and you worry about someone being a possession WR that struggles to break and get seperation on intermediate routes.

But good body, hands, and control make him a dangerous redzone threat and somewhat difficult to cover without a safety over the top on fly routes, fades, and posts.  Where Rivals and Scout have him placed (both low 4-star, #24 and #32 WR respectively) seems fairly accurate, as he has some very good ability in the air.  At the same time it makes sense why some of the bigger Big 12 schools are showing interest but probably going after some targets higher on their board before extending an offer.

I based my reaction off of what I saw on film, not track numbers with pads off running in a purely straight line.  He may be a very good track athlete, but what I saw on film was someone who didn't blow by many of the corners he went up against.  His track numbers are something to take into consideration, and I didn't know those track numbers, but I think film is more telling than combine/track results, especially what are more than likely hand-timed results.  And again, I didn't say his speed was bad, it just isn't great on the football field.

Speed on a football field depends greatly on getting in and out of breaks, blowing by people, and being able to kick into another gear, and I didn't see that too much in his film, which is probably a big reason he is the 24, 24, 32 rated WR by Scout, 247, and Rivals respectively.  Those numbers agree pretty well, and seeing as his catching ability is very good, speed and quickness seem to be a reason why he isn't much higher.

Although track times don't always translate to the football field, the bigger the guy is, the more they do, on average.  If a guy who is 6'3" 205 can run sub-11 100m times on the regular, it means he has some major leg strength, in addition to quickness.  Now, it might mean that he's a long strider who takes a bit of time to get to speed, but those types often look slower than they are on film as well.

Point is, he's a pretty big WR, and he ran a legit 4.5, he's be a unanimous 5-star kid. Still, I doubt he gets caught from behind by anyone.

Apparently, the Scout guy from LSU talked to Eldridge as his visit is upcoming and wrote that Eldridge claimed LSU was his #1 school. I tried getting in contact with the LSU guy to exchange quotes because Eldridge was adamant that LSU was not his #1. I have been in contact with him since December....he's waited for the Michigan offer and now that he has it, really seems to put them on top. Thought it was odd that he'd call a school that hasn't even offered him the favorite, but I'd be interested to know what he told the guy.

Looks like a real solid player. His qb under threw him quite a bit and massington did a great job of reacting to the ball and going up to get it at the peak of his jump. Looked like he has good field awareness and will often find the soft spot in coverage. He also looks to have really good speed for his size. Could use another 15 or so lbs on his frame and still keep his speed.

I'd like to see Massington on board, but I'm also wondering why M hasn't landed an elite (i.e., consensus top ten) wide receiver.  Treadwell's in the mix, I know, but his commitment's not guaranteed.

But yes, there are crumpets from what I've heard. Tea, however, is an NCAA violation.

Obviously the McDoubles off the $ menu would be the better value. Also, is he a fan of the seasonal Shamrock Shakes? As always, Aquaman, your clarification on these points is much appreciated. :)

As a highschool swimmer, I can tell you that 8 McDoubles is infact not a feat of strength. The average on our team for an after practice "snack" is 10-15. My personal record is 17 after swimming the mile. I swear, even if everyone else in the world died, we could keep McDonalds in business.
