Trey Burke sets single season assists record
With his 7 assists today, Trey breaks the Michigan single season record set by Darius Morris two years ago and brings his season total to 236, one ahead of Darius.
Congratulations Trey and I hope we get to see many more in this tournament!
One more thing to HAIL!
Yes, sorry. I fixed it.
Awesome news. Remember the freakout in the offseason when he was probably leaving? Don't take this amazing season for granted.
we have been blessed to have Morris and Burke at the point. Soon Walton will be embarking on his own era.
Its hard to think that we are going to get 2 years average play out of our PGs though.
he can only improve with experience and he can be an effective college point with his limitations in size/athleticism. it may not be easy for a freshmen to step into the starting lineup at guard.
talent abounds in ann arbor these days but, trey may be a once a decade type point guard.
if Spike can evolve to become our own Aaron Craft, that'd be great
Because white people.
I was thinking he'd be more like Steve Nash, but then again, I could see half of his game being the same as Jason Kidd or Mike Bibby.

I was thinking more like Mark Price, John Stockton, or Bob Cousy.

Steve Grote.
Spike shall become Bill Brasky!
It seems like giving kudos to Trey this postseason is an almost daily occurrence, and that as it should be. This is yet another great achievement for Trey Burke and congratulations to him. At nearly 7 assists per game as an average this year, it simply shows how key he is to facilitating the offense.
His assist numbers are even more impressive when you take his assist to turnover ratio, which is over 3.
Congrats Trey! You've had a marvelous year. I hope (and expect) that you are glad that you returned to campus this past year.
I can feel that POY award coming...knock on Wooden of course.
Anybody know how his assist to turnover ratio compares historically at Michigan?
I looked into this a while back and found that Michigan doesn't keep track of that particular stat. But below is a table in which I've calculated the A/TO ratio for the top 20 or so best single-season assist performances (by # of assists), according to the statistics archive at mgoblue.com. Burke's season is far and away the best (I left in some of the other stats because it gives a better idea of how his season compares to the others overall). Note that turnovers are included in the database starting only sometime in the early 1980s, so this is definitely not definitive.

Interesting to also Trey's steal numbers on the upper half of that list. He's such a complete PG, and this chart opens my eyes to how good of a player he really is.

I wonder how much of that will become a more frequent occurance with this system that favors guards that can shoot. Not to take anything away from the things he has done because Trey is simply an amazing basketball player and deserves all the praise that he is getting.
In a prototypical set the PG is a distributor not a shooter first, as great as Trey is at distributing the ball, he also has free range to shoot in this offense and he utilizes it. Some if this can and should be attributed to Beilein's system/style of coaching.

Trey also gets an astonishing number of blocks for a guy his size. He's actually second on the team with 18 this season!

he will have after 4 more games
That's basketball. Not every shot goes in and and not every player can capitalize on every opportunity. It is amazing to think how Darius was able to get that number of assists with the team he had compared to the team Burke has now.
If darius came back did trey go to psu?

Burke was already signed when Morris (in May 2011) declared for the NBA Draft.

We are very lucky to have him. We should be glad that we are getting to experience him. These last two years have been special.
