I'm a big believer that without bagmen we'd still never have heard of Hugh Freeze - but if bagmen are directing the fsu TE recruiting process why did Nauta (sp?) decommit?
I guess he could've decided to wait for a better offer? If he ends up miss, bama, auburn or osu I guess we'll have our answer?!

And obviously Ole Miss is doing something shady, and probably the rest of the SEC, and it might be half tongue-in-cheek...but seriously looking at the actual state of things.  FSU, Bama, OSU, Auburn are all better football schools than ours right now, and it's not even close.  Neutral observers should be suspicious if a guy with those offers chose UM, not the other way around.

A commit to FSU could mean the guy just likes sun, girls, and limited academic rigor or program oversight.

I don't think anyone will be "suspicious" if any player commits to Harbaugh & Michigan. Were they suspicious when they committed to Hoke?
Top TE recruit? Harbaugh's record speaks for itself... Touted QB? Ditto... Top DT recruit? Get in on something good at the best place to play & learn... Mama approved!

It doesn't have to be suspicious no matter what school a kid chooses.  But IF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE SUSPICIOUS, how is it even remotely suspicious that a top football recruit chooses any of the top 5 football programs in the country (FSU, Bama, OSU), which doesn't include UM no matter how rose-colored your glasses are.  People talk about Khalid Kareem, "how could he commit to Alabama when all signs pointed to UM??!? Something fishy must be going on."

Well sure, maybe.  And maybe he was just a fickle teenager who wanted to go to the best college football program over the last decade, that consistently produces NFL draft picks.  The same way tons of non-athlete 18 year olds think they're gonna go to the best academic school they can get into and then when all the acceptance letters are on the table say "Fuck it, UC Boulder and I can ski all year long."

Actually I didn't "flip" anything - YOU said neutral observers "should" be suspicious if a touted recruit picks M over osu, bama, auburn or fsu.
I merely listed reasons they shouldn't. Also, I was addressing TE recruiting, specifically calling into question the assertion that if Upshur picks fsu it's due to bagmen. If that's the case, I asked, why did Nauta decommit?
I think you may have missed not only my point, but your own!

It is possible,  heck most anything is possible.   Even taking off my Maize & Blue goggles, yes, there may be a couple of departments where they are ranked ahead of us (Marine Biology???),  but seriously FSU is not even close to Michigan in terms of academic reputation or quality of teaching staff.  If he were talking about one of the other ACC schools like Duke, UVA, or NC then no one would laugh.

Jay Harbaugh hasn't been able to close on a top TE recruit yet.  Just sayin'.  I'm not sure he should be a position coach at this level yet.  You don't have to have been a good player to be a good coach but you kind of have to have been a good player to recruit in your 20's.  Does Jay have any credibility?  I think he should be a position coach at a much lower level right now.

These high school tight ends will see how Harbaugh uses them in his offense and then they'll start dropping like flys in the fall! All that guy Jay will have to do is say hey. Really like his first and last name though.

and I'm assuming you're getting negged on but I have a bit of the same feeling. He's been around the game (obviously) but does that make him qualified to be the coach of a VERY important position in his father's offense? His father's offense...FATHER'S offense...ha. Emphasis. In all seriousness, I questioned the hire immediately as there seems to be a recruiting sweet spot with age. 30ish tends to a great age as you're old enough to get their respect but young enough to relate to them. Manning was right there, ya know. I'm a bit concerned that Jay could be coming off a bit like that dude at the HS party that graduated when everyone there were in Junior High lol. I know he has said and done a few things on Twitter that were a bit immature, IMO. In the end will players want a buddy or a guy they know can get them to the NFL? Jay simply has to prove himself. Upshur is gone and I wouldn't put that on Jay but his hiring being the topic, I also have concerns. Again, if he turns out to be a top TE developer he's golden. Today? I think he's a bit too young, inexperienced and proven. He has to change that. I hope he does.

I'm saying he has to prove himself - period. He's younger than most posters here and has never been a TE coach/recruiter in CFB (that I know of). Maybe people aren't bitching as much as you aren't reading? Maybe you're not even remotely thinking critically about something you seem to love but are going on ignorant, blind faith? BREAKING NEWS: Jim and Jay Harbaugh are human beings! They can actually make mistakes, do wrong, fail sometimes and are open for as much questioning as anyone else! If his name were Jay Smith everyone would be looking at it with much more rationale and a heavy "he's going to have to prove he's more than just a name" attitude.

yet you overlook that we are on two of the top TEs in the country. Losing a recruit to a National Championship contender is not some rare event, especially if you watched how our football team has far. Furthermore, he has been here only a few months.

What you need to realize is John Baxter has been a combo TE/Special teams coach his whole career. He is acting as a mentor for Jay. I forget where I read it,but John has gone with him on a bunch of recruiting visits.

Of course the only reason Jay is here is because he's Jim's son.  However, we wouldn't have gotten a different TE coach had he not come though.  Baxter would've done both duties.

There's a reason why Baxter makes $400,000/yr and Jay only makes 175,000.
