My bet is on FSU. Like Sam Webb says "If a favorite school is a favorite for too long without a commitment, it's hard to consider them a favorite anymore" I think that UM was a favorite at one time but I don't think they have been for a while

Chris Clark decommiting. Funchess switched to WR. A.J. Williams was arrested and wasn't really able to crack the rotation. Bunting and Winovich took redshirts.
Really Jake Butt is the only player we can point to as a successfull TE, but he had the ACL thing last year. . .
We are poised to break out this fall at the TE position, but there is not a lot of concrete evidence of TE success at Michigan that the coaching staff can point to in recruiting (I assume they talk a lot about Harbaugh's Stanford teams).
The good news is, commitments are non-binding. If Butt & Co. tear it up this fall we may be in a great position to snatch a late decommit.

McKeon is a gem. I have little doubt that Harbaugh turns him into an all conference TE.

Butt at this stage? He should get 4 yrs of JH coaching to max his talent.
Nice height and moves well on Hudk, but far from explosive or not as athletic as Upshur and Nauta.
Hope he develops and gets drafted ahead of the guys who turned down JH.

If you go by reported 40 times and verticals he is actually more athletic than both of them. More stars don't necessarily mean more athletic.

Let's move on.

Jay isn't that good of a recruiter. Coaching remains to be seen but it's not like he has had the resume that the other position coaches have.

You don't know that. The staff hasn't had a full cycle to work with. Give it time.

recruiting changes by Feb? It might change by Feb to validate his recruiting; right now it's a C+ with the 2015 miss and only McKeon so far (need a 2nd high quality to go with him).
This year is the full cycle. JH and his O are well known. Jay can easily pop in Stanford or SF tape to show a recruit the O and TE role.

Well JH didn't bring in a load of five stars the second he had been hired, so the well known deal is out. And yes, not only does TE recruiting change by the deadline, so does all recruiting! It's an amazing concept of both building relationships with the kid and the all to dangerous decomitting process that leads to the recruiting change by Feb.

You guys said "Butt, blow up, and load"
Huhu...
August 22nd, 2015 at 9:22 PM ^
That can happen to Jay Harbaugh's recruiting abilities is if Butt blows up this year.
August 23rd, 2015 at 10:03 AM ^
Which - considering the fact that Harbaugh uses TEs heavily and we don't have a clear star receiver - is very likely
August 22nd, 2015 at 8:40 PM ^
That's fine, Harbaugh will find a few 3* players willing to work their ass off.

Good luck to him at FSU. I actually like his upside more than Nauta.

Not that I blame these kids bc they are high school kids but they are almost always total band wagoners. They will always pick the team that just won and not pick a team based on any logical analysis (ie we are the no brainer obvious choice for obvious reasons). He will totally pick FSU for the "academics".
Which by the way, the term academics means totally different things to you and I and most of these recruits. For you and I it means the quality of the education, the prestige, the national rankings etc... for these recruits the term academics refers to how much 'tudors' help them, do the work for them and how little they have to do. Remember "academics" - its why people pick Auburn over us. Not academics what you and I and the rest of the educated professional world mean.

well that won't end well.
August 23rd, 2015 at 7:31 AM ^
I thought he'd would take the FSU full court press after Nauta's decommittment as an insult. He essentially is their sloppy seconds after the player openly admitted that FSU wouldn't help him grow as a person.
