knowing that Tim Brewster is their TE coach makes me think we still have a shot. Tim Brewster makes Brady Hoke look like Bear Bryant. Tim Brewster promised Minnesota a Rose Bowl appearance in his introductory news conference. Tim Brewster had to freelance as a sideline reporter because no one would let him near a program in any coaching capacity. I don't know what Jimbo owed him, but Tim Brewster is not an argument in one's favor regardless of topic.

If we could somehow get Nauta that would be a net plus swap in terms of talent. Hoping TEs see the light once Butt starts lighting up the stat sheet and highlight reels this season.

For anyone that disagrees and wants to neg name a coach on this team that is worse than Jay and prove to me that his hire wasn't nepotism.  I'm all ears.  I thought the only thing good about Hoke was Mattison and I think the only thing bad about the Harbaugh hire is Jay at this point in his coaching career.  He might be the next John Harbaugh for all I know (bad player, great coach) but John paid his dues.

I agree that that probably was a better TE coach option out there. However, overall I am very pleased with the hires. Harbaugh also reached out to the TE coach at UK first (Vince Marrow) and he decided to stay at UK.

Jay may bring less in coaching experience but he probably adds in other aspects (technology, film, connecting with young players in general).

Jay may wind up working out but it was still a terrible hire.  He has zero experience as a te coach, didn't play te and likely is mostly learning how to coach te this year rather than actually doing it.  If Harbuagh isn't his dad he isn't coaching at Michigan at his age based on his resume and that is not a knock on him at all but we all know exactly why he got the job and it wasn't because of a proven ability coaching up te's or recruiting successfully.

So knocking a guy for going to FSU because of how great Harbuagh was in the past at using TE's doesn't make a ton of sense.

No one is knocking the kid for going to FSU.  We're knocking one guy for making this thread ground zero for his war against the hiring of Jay as TE's coach.

Harbaugh's past use of TE's is proof that TE's can excel in the system.  With that being said, quality recruits will also pass on the opportunity to play for him for a myriad of reasons.  None of which will be his ability to produce great players and utilize them within his system.

I agree he has zero experience in this role. Disagree you aren't knocking him (though I think your opinion had merit). Disagree that big Harbaughs past experience shouldn't be a major draw for a recruit.

Who was Harbaughs tight end coach at Stanford. Would be curious to see what his experience was before in developing the position.

Upshur wanted to go to FSU in the first place and was looking elsewhere because they were full. Nuata decommits and a spot opens up for him there. It's not like there is a pattern for you to go on here. We are a finalist for a top TE. Won't get him, but that's still marginally better than NOT being a finalist for a top TE. Take the stick out of your ass and wait to see how he does like the rest of us, instead of just assuming he isn't up to your lofty standards.

No. We can't do better.  We got the guy that everyone wanted to run our program, Jim Harbaugh.  He then went on to hire the staff that he thought would put us in the best position to be successful.  I don't care that you disagree with his decision, but there's solid evidence to support why he's running the program while you pound away at your keyboard.

We just need to start winning. Osu has 2 of the top 4 TE recruits committed to them for 2016 and I don't think they ever throw the ball to those guys. I think winning is the most important tool in recruiting. Once Michigan starts showing up in the rankings each week, recruiting will improve.

confounding factor. Forget his NFL experience or even development of TEs, his offense is predicated on the TE as a weapon. That info is widely known. Want the ball? Want the ball in open space? JH's offense is built for guys like Nauta and Upshur that are physical enough to block and athletic enough to run free down the seem. The lack of recruiting wins at TE is strange.

Who the fuck have been past TE coaches? Who gives a shit who the TE coach is? The HC is a TE Coach and we have a 'passing game coach' too. You can't be serious slagging on Jay Harbaugh. "What's the Achilles heel of the team?? Oh it's quite clearly the TE coach!"

There is a ton of time left in this recruiting cycle. Michigan is in Upshur's top 2. I'm not worried if he picks FSU. If Michigan uses the tight ends the way they are expected to then Upshur will take notice. If he stays with FSU then oh well, take the next TE recruit on the board.

I think we have a shot at Nauta. I know everyone thinks he's going to Georgia. But Richt is on the hot seat and Harbaugh's offense is heaven for TEs. Not to mention that he has family up here and his uncle was coached by Mattison and Jack Harbaugh.

Dude, Richt has been on the "hot seat" for a long time. Hasn't won an SEC title in a decade.

As long as he keeps producing 9-10 wins a year, no one will have the chutzpah to fire him because people are afraid that they won't get someone any better than him.

But if they want national titles they might as well fire him. They're always going to get the same thing with Richt: at least 1-2 head scratcher losses every year wondering how the fuck you lost to THAT school. He's good for 9-10 wins a year, and the occasional 11 win year, but he's been there for over 10 years. He's not the guy to get them over the national title hump.

is a silent to FSU, IIRC. I've read that in a few places. That FSU decommit seems Georgia bound but I think a good season could get him here. Either way I hear our best bet at TE to close this year out is a 3 star type out of California. I think? But Upshur is going to FSU 99.99%.

Would love to have him. Harbaugh would work wonders with him, but Harbaugh has created NFL talent out of kids who are far less talented according to damn high school rankings.

We're in good hands whether Upshur commits or not.
