Tim Tebow
Like a lot of us on here, I like to talk shit about a handful of the typical big names, mostly rival coaches and players. As is the case, I'm sure, with many of the other posters, the shit I talk is always just to be funny, and sometimes it even is.
That said, I'm publicly announcing that I'm done talking shit about Tim Tebow, as easy of a target as he is sometimes. I think anyone would admit that he's a badass football player, but after watching the special on him tonight during the college football awards, I can't help but admire what a truly great person he is. So many college football players abuse the privilege of being a big deal, but Tebow does it all differently, and I really like it.
None of this was really new information to me, but once it really set it, I think what he does off the football field is unlike anything I've seen or heard before. You don't need to agree with his religious beliefs to recognize how awesome that is.
And you all know that if he was at Michigan he would be a notch or two above God.

As a general rule, I hate all schools from Florida. But Tim Tebow is a stand up guy.
Kind of like the way I hate the Colorado Avalanche, but Joe Sakic always impressed me as a class act.

It's not so much that one would hate Tim Tebow. What most people hate is the constant fellating of Tim Tebow by people like Gary Danielson, who clearly has his head up his ass.

Yep, this is the big problem. Tebow is an incredible player, but Danielson's intense man-crush on him is just too much.

a problem with Tebow. My problem has always been with the announcers and the way they give him credit for inventing things like "taking a step forward to fake the QB draw, then stepping back and throwing the ball".

I agree WolvinLA, I think Tebow's awesome. I really believe that he will be successful in the NFL just because of his attitude and character.

o.....k. But, really, who's the expert on NFL QB's? Who the F knows who'll be good? I don't think you can write him off right here just because he runs a spread in college. How much of Tom Brady's success has to do with his heart and his intellect? I think a great amount, I mean look at that draft photo of him. Nobody thought he would amount to anything, not to mention like a hundred other guys such as:
Warner
Romo
Delhomme
Farve
Hasselbeck
Garcia
etc etc etc etc etc
For every one Payton Manning there are 3 of those guys.
And yes you will rebuttal with the likes of Tim Couch and Eric Crouch (weird how similar their names are) and you will be 100% right in that regard.
I guess the point is no one (certainly not you or me) knows who will succeed and who won't.

I kind of agree with this. I think Matt Stafford is a far superior NFL prospect.

I don't think we should totally discount Tebow as a potential NFL quarterback. He has the tools. With how much of a competitor he is, I sincerely doubt his mechanics are poor because he's unwilling to change. His mechanics are probably poor due to the coaches not giving a shit, as long as he gets the job done.
He's not Eric Crouch. He's not as fast as Eric Crouch (so he can't be a WR), and he throws the ball more than Crouch ever did. So let's throw that comparison out the window.
With semi-successful NFL quarterbacks like Jeff Garcia, Tony Romo, and Chad Pennington running around out there (other guys who have limitations and/or were underrated), I don't see how you can disimiss the idea of him being a QB.
That being said, I also wouldn't be surprised to see him play some sort of H-back role, running the Wildcat formation, or playing strong safety.

Tebow being a left-handed version of Steve McNair. I know Air McNair threw for like 10,000 yards at Alcorn State, but I never really felt like he was the Warren Moon type of passer that people thought he would be. He seemed to be more of a dink and dunk, move in the pocket, pick some first downs on the ground and hit the occasional deep ball type of QB. McNair has an NFL arm for sure, but it wasn't like he was chucking the ball all over the place like Kurt Warner.
I think Tebow could fit that mold on the right team.

There was an indie rock thread a while back, and I mentioned the Stone Roses in it. I think four or five people responded that they liked them, so not only is mgoblog the best football website out there, its readership is also 500% more likely to like the Stone Roses than the general population.

Tom Harmon is currently seven notches above God. Therefore, the best Tebow could possibly do--even with the help of a winged helmet--is get to within 5 notches of Harmon.
