Thursday Night NCAAFB: Nebraska vs K-State
7:30p, ESPN/ESPN3
Taylor Martinez, and the #4 rushing team in the nation host a K-State team that, much like Indiana was prior to last wek, is undefeated after playing a hosts of near no ones.
K-State isn't all that bad. They do have wins over UCLA which looks better now than it did in week one. They also have a win over UCF, who for those who watched Wednesday night, looks like a half way decent win. They also have a win over Iowa State in the Big 12, which, that may mean nothing, but hey, Iowa State beat Texas Tech?
K-State fans are also pushing for running back Daniel Thomas for Heisman consideration. He currently has 628 yards on 105 carries (6.0 average). That puts him 5th in the nation rushing, just 277 yards behind whoever that guy leading the nation in rushing is.
Yes, that guy.
Anyway, over on the Nebraska side, we've got defense and we've got the vaunted Nebraska option. No, not the old option of Eric Crouch or past Nebraska QBs. I'm talking the zone read with freshman Taylor Martinez. The guy isn't any Denard, but he's plenty fast. Nebraska is currently #4 in rushing yards per game (309/game). The Huskers currently are 11th in points per game at 40. More astounding is that they also have a top 10 defense in terms of points allowed (#7 at 12.8 per game).
The line is Nebraska by 10.5, 11, or 11.5 depending your source. O/U is around 47 or 47.5. I'm liking Nebraska to cover and taking the under. Both the running games should slow the pace down a bit, at least if K-State can stay on the field long enough to do it.
Discussion goes here.
Thought to ponder: is cheering for Nebraska fine? They're going to call us a rival in 10 years. Should I get the hate started already?

Pfffffft. 3 man rush. That's so silly! Oh ....wait....what?
October 7th, 2010 at 8:31 PM ^
Does K-State give a whole sideline to students? That is pretty cool if they do.
October 7th, 2010 at 8:56 PM ^
OK, Martinez is pretty fast... north and south. can't tell if he has any lateral quickness
edit: make that 5 Dilithium references
October 7th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
It did look very familiar.
October 7th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
Wow - can't wait to have to stop Martinez next year. Impressively fast
October 7th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
because they have nothing else to do in nebraska
October 7th, 2010 at 8:49 PM ^
Martinez has a helluva first step. Went from 0 to full speed in no time on that read option there.
I'd have my linemen always keying in on him, make him hand it off or get lit up.
October 7th, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
Every time thy say T Magic I throw up in my mouth a little bit. He's good but I already don't like him just because of his nickname. Yes, I am that shallow about our opponents, or future opponents.
October 7th, 2010 at 8:54 PM ^
On a similar note, I sure hope that either "De 'Nard Dog" or simply "Nard Dog" doesn't ever catch on. Stick with D Rob
October 7th, 2010 at 10:41 PM ^
I hear that Shoelace is a good nickname for him too.
October 7th, 2010 at 8:55 PM ^
Robinson would've scored for sure
October 7th, 2010 at 8:55 PM ^
Playing Nebraska the next few years is gonna be interesting. Both defenses face a similar quarterback everyday in practice so will they be more effective than other teams at containing them?
October 7th, 2010 at 8:56 PM ^
October 7th, 2010 at 9:00 PM ^
You know espn is gonna blow up this comparison for the next few years once Nebraska joins the Big 10 with the obvious winner in this duel being the man with the dreads wearing the maize n blue,
October 7th, 2010 at 9:08 PM ^
When did this Jenn Brown chick start doing sideline reporting? They pushed her on Mike and Mike this morning, then on Sportscenter before the game. They trying to make her the next Erin Andrews?
October 7th, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
I'n not complaining...
October 7th, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
Ha, Im not either. Just wondering where she came from. I have never seen her before.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:18 PM ^
I'd never seen her before today. But, it's hard to argue with the strategy. There really aren't any good sideline reporters, given the nature of the questions they ask. So, they'd might as well be attractive!
October 7th, 2010 at 9:11 PM ^
Martinez is fun to watch but I think our O-line is better.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:12 PM ^
Did he just say "Notre Dame is Back" ? Seriously.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:18 PM ^
Yeah they get to play this schedule.
Western Michigan
@ Navy
Tulsa
Utah
Army
@ USC
If they don't come out over .500 w/ that schedule yuck
October 7th, 2010 at 9:25 PM ^
Denard making the halftime show on Thursday night football!! Will he really win the Heisman if we go 6-6...7-5??? Who cares we just have to take these games one day at a time and not get ahead of ourselves. Which is the hardest thing to do when you have the keys to a red 458 Italia Ferarii and can't wait to see how she will perform!!!
October 7th, 2010 at 9:18 PM ^
Lou Holtz at halftime: "can you imagine how many yard Denard would get if he got to play against his own defense?" LOL...sad, but funny.
I can't believe I am complimented Lou Holtz, but how right he is with that one.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:21 PM ^
Even better, he got to set the school's record for total yards in a game against Notre Dame's defense, at Notre Dame stadium. How bout that Lou!

October 7th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
Wow, Martinez looked quick, quite the acceleration.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:34 PM ^
I'm hoping that he's just comparatively fast when observing K-State's defenders.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:47 PM ^
His recruiting profiles from 2009 list his 40 at 4.47, but he also has a combine time listed at 4.50 which might be an electronic time. Certainly not Dilithium speed, but very impressive for a quarterback none the less.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
It's actually pretty cool to watch a player like Martinez without having some sort of emotional attachment to the game. Making some great plays.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:36 PM ^
This could be an epic battle( 2011) in the Big House for the Big Ten norris division!!!
October 7th, 2010 at 9:41 PM ^
Drink once every time you hear the words "Shoelace" or "T-magic." Five minutes to alcohol poisoning!
October 7th, 2010 at 9:37 PM ^
Weak roughing the punter call on Nebraska. Definitely pushed that way.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:43 PM ^
NFW. Holy crap.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:43 PM ^
K-State is not good at stopping the run. Nebraska is good at running. This reminds me of a game we saw last weekend...
October 7th, 2010 at 9:45 PM ^
Wow. Kansas State is awful.
And when did Nebraska get good again? I must not have been paying attention.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
K-State crushes UCLA...........UCLA crushes Texas..........Nebraska crushes K-State. How good his Nebraska and how bad is Texas??
October 7th, 2010 at 10:04 PM ^
too bad it doesnt work that way
October 8th, 2010 at 2:39 AM ^
What is a slippery rock?
"The school and its football team have gotten all sorts of national publicity because some people thought Slippery Rock was a funny name. According to school lore, the attention started in 1936, when there was a dispute as to whether Pittsburgh or Minnesota should be ranked No. 1. A sports writer used comparative results to show that Slippery Rock should be No. 1. The logic went like this : Slippery Rock beat Westminster, which beat West Virginia Wesleyan, which beat Duqusne, which beat Pitt, which beat Notre Dame, which beat Northwestern, which beat Minnesota."
October 7th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
All those rumors about the Kansas's going to the Big East during the whole conference expansion kerfluffle, K-State would still be the best team in the Big East this year.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:51 PM ^
If they keep scoring so fast they'll get behind too far in TOP, and they'll lose the game for sure. Isn't that the rule?
Nebraska is looking like a great addition to the B10.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:54 PM ^
I look at Nebraska's schedule and see no reason they shouldn't be undefeated going into the Big 12 title game. People think we have an easy schedule...
October 7th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
Nebraska's schedule is a joke. Non-conference schedule consists of Western Kentucky, Idaho, South Dakota State and Washington.
Texas is unranked and they don't play Oklahoma. They don't play any top ten teams. As of right now, they play just two ranked teams all year. #22 Oklahoma State and #24 Missouri.
That's a painfully bad schedule. They won't be tested until the Big 12 Championship game.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:04 PM ^
So much for the under. One more TD and that's blown.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:06 PM ^
i've gaken a shot everytume ive heard Robinson. ..so drunk
October 7th, 2010 at 10:10 PM ^
Love the announcers in the game mentioning that Greg Jones could keep up with Denard - if MSU seriously expects to shadow Denard with their best LB, then by all means go for it. That will just leave masive holes open in the middle for the slants and screens that RR's offense can exploit.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:10 PM ^
The thing I'm taking from this game is that the universe would fly out of balance if we had a defense like Nebraska's.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing - if it was a video game, you would think the game was buggy.
October 7th, 2010 at 10:17 PM ^
October 7th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
That was quite stupid. Plus the ref really threw that flag with an attitude.
