Three recruiting notes (Wills, JKP, Martin)
For those of you who live outside the Ann Arbor area, thought I'd post two pieces of info that Sam Webb dropped on TMI this morning:
1) Michigan may be open to taking 3 safeties if the right guy comes along. Webb thinks we're in a very good spot with Jalyn Kelly Powell and that JMarick Woods' commitment is still strong, but the recent safety offers are making sure the bases are covered and kicking the tires on a few guys that are elite (Bubba Bolden).
2) It's Sam's opinion that we lead for Jedrick Wills. Most recruiting guys thought he was an Alabama lock, but Michigan really surged this weekend. Apparently Wills connected really well with UM on all fronts. At least 4 of the Fab 5 look like legit possibilities to end up at Michigan - Ruiz (#66 overall on 247 composite), Wills (#44), Filiaga (#98), and Wilson (#31). Leatherwood is obviously more of a longshot.
Also, over on 247, Steve Wiltfong put in a Crystal Ball for Oliver Martin after talking to some of his sources. It should be noted that Wiltfong is good at his job.

Fab 5? That would be eight OL in this class correct? I wonder how Hall, Herbert and Steuber feel about being the "other three"?

Has a nice ring to it. Other options include Enticing Eight, or perhaps Enormous Eight would be more appropriate.

"Elite Eight" sounded good. There are not many superlatives that start with "N" for "Nine" though. The Nice Nine?

Nothing more sexy or stylish than 'the Notable Nine'.

Notable is sexy to you? Are you an actuary?
October 18th, 2016 at 10:41 AM ^
actuary I'm not!
Boom!

Maybe not, but you are clearly a dad.

The answer here is obviously "The Notorious Nine."
October 18th, 2016 at 11:44 AM ^
A new one at that.

I am mistaken, the word you are looking for is "nan". Which, according to Urban Dictionary, is a "strong, beautiful women". If I am wrong, I will accept the negs, I know rap music can be hard to decipher.

Nefarious Nine?
October 18th, 2016 at 11:22 AM ^
If there's Nine, I think you just go with "The Nine." No superlative necessary, because they scare the bejeezus out of you on sight, or even if you heard rumours they are outside somewhere riding around. Maybe you call them "The Nine Riders" or "The Nazgul" if you want to be corny.

Great point here. I would feel like a total afterthought. It's one thing to go into a scenario where you see your school heavily recruiting a player that will create extreme competition and may be indicative that your committment isn't strong enough to carry the class. It's another to have a promo for a positional group that doesn't include you.
October 18th, 2016 at 10:04 AM ^
Eh, no that would be 9 (Honingford). We already have 4 commitments and it's looking more and more like Herbert might stick.
October 18th, 2016 at 11:22 AM ^
Joel makes 9 if that all happens. I think if we land 4 more,(Wills, Wilson, Ruiz, Filiaga) Herbert is gone to Florida and Slaton likely goes with him.
That would give us a final class of 7:
Honigford
Stueber
Hall
Wilson
Wills
Ruiz
Filiaga
Either way, we will have an incredible OL haul. Possibly the best ever.
October 18th, 2016 at 1:11 PM ^
Why do people assume that Slaton will follow Herbert away from UM when he hasn't followed in committing to us yet?
October 18th, 2016 at 9:46 AM ^
Then, it can still be Fab 5 (x2)

Not really from what the guys on 247 say. But I think the approach is "we'll believe someone can steal and sign a prize Bama recruit when we see it" which is probably the correct approach.

I"ve read that he always gushes about schools after visits and according to most, unless the OL coach (Cristobal) leaves Alabama, he's going there.

I've actually wondered if he'd be a viable candidate for Co-OC and OL coach if Drevno were to leave for a HC job. Cristobal is an ambitious coach, and we don't know what will happen with Drevno, but it may happen too late for the a player like Leatherwood.
October 18th, 2016 at 8:53 AM ^
Drevno isn't going anywhere this year, but people have been starting to talk about Cristobal for head coaching spots. Lower tiered spots like an FIU which has an opening. Obviously other jobs will open up as well, probably WMU, as schools poach coaches from group of 5 schools.
October 18th, 2016 at 9:00 AM ^
considering they fired him from the previous position.
October 18th, 2016 at 10:01 AM ^
Lol well that's probably a good call then, thank you for enlightening me.
October 18th, 2016 at 12:09 PM ^
Ok, it goes down like this: Tom Herman to LSU, and then Mario Cristobal to Houston.
