There Are....

There are....Ronnie Bell days left.  Ronnie had a tremendous first game against WMU with a 76 yd TD catch and a beautiful 31 yd punt return. Ronnie is a team captain and has been as active as a player can be who is not putting the pads on since that injury during the WMU game.  If there is a very bright side to him missing this year, it is that we have made it this far without him and we get him next year to see him do more of this:

Ronnie Bell - Football - University of Michigan Athletics

His humility, talent, work ethic and leadership are part of what makes this team so good.

TheWolverine - News & Views: Jim Harbaugh On Ronnie Bell ...

8 days.  Count 'em.  8.  Not 9, definitely not 10, but only 8.  And for those that are worried about us missing out on the CFP due to covid, it has been posted here that the CFP Committee has said either proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hrs is sufficient.  Word has it that all the players have had their shot(s) and/or boosters by now.  Lord willing, the game will indeed be played.

Go Blue!

p.s.  Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Ronnie Bell's most significant contribution to the team this year (outside of helping to win WMU and being a leader off the field, of course) may very well have been his restraining of Jim Harbaugh so that he received not one, but *two* Gatorade baths at the BTCG.

Well done, young man.

Bell had no measurables at all. He went to zero camps and zero workouts at colleges, turning them down to play AAU basketball instead.  He had a basketball offer and wasn’t participating in the football recruiting process, so recruiting services didn’t bother to rank him at all.  And then his brother-in-law (but not Tom Crean, since he has multiple basketball coaches for in-laws apparently) did us a solid and sent his tape to Harbaugh, and that was that.  But I don’t think Bell has “normal measurables”, and the 2023 combine will show that (unless Bell skips the pro process as well because it worked for him skipping the college recruiting process.)

The services missed on Haskins, but Bell was hiding himself.

If Ronnie Bell has sufficiently recovered from his injury to be running again, could Juwann Howard use him as an extra point guard on the Michigan men's basketball roster for the stretch run?

No.

Bell hasn't played competitive basketball in 4 years, (probably) aside from some pickup games.  He doesn't know the offense.  He doesn't know the defense.  He doesn't know the other players on the court.  He's not in basketball shape.  His bball scholarship offer was to a mid-major, and the only one he received - he wasn't a high level recruit on the hardwood.

I get the question from a leadership standpoint, but the bball team doesn't know him, and most certainly doesn't look to him as one of their leaders.  From a purely basketball standpoint, this is just a dumb question (sorry for being so harsh, but not too sorry).

Maybe plant him in the Maize Rage section, in Denard's seat (if DRob isn't there, of course)...

agree he'd be rusty and wouldn't know the plays, but you can't look at that tape posted by chatster and not think: wow, he is quicker, more aggressive and has better elevation than anybody we've got at the 1 or 2 spot.  kid can ball with a round ball or a more elliptical one.

No, I didn't watch the video because its blocked by the firewall.  But facts are facts - Ronnie was offered by a mid-major, not by any of the better P5 schools in basketball.  He may well outplay Jones or Zeb, but I don't think he's going to handle Frankie or Kobe.

Maybe he could if he concentrated on basketball for the last 4 years?  Alas, he did not...  And it's not dissin' on the guy to say he would probably be outplayed by high level recruits (top 50-70 players) that have been concentrating on bball...

C'mon man.  Translating high-school tape to Big Ten basketball is a really hard job.  We have 4 years of DaVante Jones carving up mid-majors and even he is struggling to adapt to the Big Ten.

I'm not dissing on Bell.  I'm just saying unless you are the elite of the elite, you have to be committed year-round to basketball to play at the Big Ten level.  And that would be true for a guy NOT coming off a devastating knee injury just a few months ago.

There is zero chance Bell would risk his 2022 football season and his only shot to play pro sports to play basketball anyway.

Thank You to Ronnie Bell!

A true teammate and captain.

Eight days are going to go fast with Christmas in the mix. Fingers crossed everyone stays healthy.

Good decision to go to Miami as scheduled. Getting acclimated to a 50-60 degree change is important! Something tells me this team will be ready come NYE!!

I can’t remember anticipating a game as the one we have in 8 days.  Yesterday, our traditional NYE family dinner was moved to New Years Day.  I did a happy dance - now I get to watch the game in peace.

Think he had the catch of the year before he got hurt.  One handed over the shoulder on the sideline.  Never mind it was ruled a non-catch by incompetent referees… it was so pretty

It looks just like the picture. Very cute, and it is printed on both sides which is very nice. The picture is also very clear. It’s just so strange it’s wonderful.

Mr. Bell epitomizes this team so perfectly: a lightly regarded recruit who willed himself into becoming a Michigan legend. Fuck the doubters--he simply would not be denied. You can see how the team draws strength from his presence on the sideline. That's being a great leader as well as a great player. Can't wait to see #8 back out there again.

Is it just me or can you almost make two entire FBS lineups off of our skill players (with a healthy Bell of course)

Cade / Villari

Haskins / Dunlap

Bell / Anthony / Sainristil / Baldwin

Schoonmaker / Selzer

or

JJ / Bowman

Corum / Edwards

Johnson/ AJ Henning /Wilson / Edwards

All / Honigford
