Texas Tech Transfer Nimari Burnett - Michigan Has Not Reached Out
Have fielded a ton of questions via Twitter/DMs, but wanted to make this a board exclusive. Have verified that Michigan has not contacted Texas Tech transfer and former offer Nimari Burnett.
Doesn't mean the staff won't kick the tires (Burnett isn't officially in the portal just yet), but that's where things are as of now.

Does he play DT?
January 8th, 2021 at 5:35 PM ^
Or CB? Both?
January 8th, 2021 at 9:08 PM ^
or QB?

I don't think M needs him. Would be nice to have for sure but with Zeb on the roster and the freshman guards coming in I think M will be ok.

Disagree. Michigan’s guard situation next year is Jackson & Collins at point and Kobe Bufkin as the only real #2 guard. Jace is probably unplayable. Depth would be nice

Keep in mind that everyone on the current roster gets an extra year of eligibility because of the pandemic. Eli Brooks and Mike Smith don't feel like draftable NBA players to me since the NBA Draft is a lot more about potential/measurables/athleticism than college production. One of Brooks/Smith should stay if not both.

There are a lot of professional options beyond the NBA. They may just want to move on to the next stage of life. I would assume they're gone and be pleasantly surprised otherwise

I thought (could be totally wrong, though) that if he wasn't in the portal yet, other schools aren't allowed to reach out.

The thread title still checks out.

They need to have a scholarship spot and they may not depending on who stays.
January 9th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
If everyone is allowed to redshirt, the NCAA is going to have to adjust scholarship limits.
January 8th, 2021 at 5:42 PM ^
Nor should they. I like the guys we have and the dude passed on Juwan. No thanks.
January 8th, 2021 at 5:46 PM ^
I think we're good, but I hear Nebraska is looking for transfers for about the next decade of Hoiberg's career
January 8th, 2021 at 5:56 PM ^
Tell him he is welcome, but he WILL compete for playing time with the bench. If he plays well enough, he can compete for a starters role. Take it or leave it, bud.
January 8th, 2021 at 6:03 PM ^
If he’s not in the portal yet are teams allowed to contact him?
January 8th, 2021 at 6:11 PM ^
His shooting numbers are not great.
January 8th, 2021 at 6:56 PM ^
They are horrible actually.

I thought Burnett went to TT because of what the bagman delivered. There was a hidden $ in Matt EM’s write up about it a while back. If that’s what is driving his decision’s then no thank you. Good luck to him but I see him pulling a Khalil Whitney and trying to go pro now.

Ya snooze ya lose.
January 8th, 2021 at 6:27 PM ^
My opinion here, as opposed to reporting. But I think for Michigan a lot depends on what, if any, we have coming back from the group of Smith/Brooks/Brown/Franz. If we get one of those guys back, the need for Burnett decreases a lot. But if not, we're relying on freshman exclusively in the backcourt next season. Now all of those guys are extremely talented, but Burnett has some college experience at the HM level for a successful program. His offensive numbers weren't great in a limited role with minutes that were inconsistent, but he was certainly good on the defensive end and was very good as a HS prospect.

Matt, provided neither Brooks nor Smith come back next year, how do you see the pg position working out? Do you see Zeb as having what it takes to play the true pg position or is he gonna be more of the scoring pg type? The other night was one of the only times we have been able to see him in extended minutes with starters, what did you see?
January 8th, 2021 at 6:43 PM ^
Zeb is going to be a physical upgrade from either Smith/Brooks, the question is whether he can improve his ability to make correct decisions at the B10 pace. He looked much more comfortable on both ends of the court in garbage time against Minnesota.
Hard for me to really project his spatial awareness development, but my guess he's going to be a solid rotational player toward the end of next season at minimum. He possesses great positional size/length/athleticism and has some shiftiness off the bounce and vision.
January 8th, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
So initially you would say Frankie would come in and start at pg? This all assumes neither Smith nor Brooks come back.
January 8th, 2021 at 10:15 PM ^
I don't remember if you have scouted Nimari-live??? His tapes were very good-excellent vision/facilitator, finished well and had a good stroke and range. From his tape I liked him a lot.
Otherwise, clearly expectations did not match up well. 5***** kids used to being the star with the ball in their hands getting inconsistent minutes would not predict good results.

Honestly not sure... why is he leaving TT?
What is the scholarship count at?
January 8th, 2021 at 6:42 PM ^
Apparently he's not getting playing time he thinks he deserves or perhaps was promised based on his recruiting profile, despite poor shooting numbers - this from TT fans
January 8th, 2021 at 7:00 PM ^
seems like early days to pull that trigger... he's had all of 12 games in college
JMHO, but you'd hope that its more than just playing time
January 8th, 2021 at 7:10 PM ^
they had two people transfer in after he committed, both playing because of a waiver (though it sounded like one said he wasnt going to play anyway then changed his mind, and those two people are gobbling up all the available minutes.
January 8th, 2021 at 6:37 PM ^
We don’t have any spots left unless someone transfers or Franz goes to the NBA. I’d rather see Franz come back than Burnett come here. If we have multiple spots open up then fine. If it’s just Franz, I’d rather see us go get a big man that will provide us some experience for 2022 when HD, Diabate and Johns are all gone.
January 9th, 2021 at 4:23 PM ^
Franz will be gone. Someone will probably transfer. And even Dicksinson could be gone. We'll have room
January 8th, 2021 at 6:41 PM ^
Strongly dislike the 'kick the tires' cliche; kids aren't products.
January 8th, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
Yea we did...years ago from what I understand.
January 9th, 2021 at 9:27 AM ^
Why would we? Dosent he have to sit out a year? And especially the way 〽️ is recruiting! I trust Juwan Howard!!
January 9th, 2021 at 10:10 AM ^
In today's world people are being given immediate eligibility for as little as a stubbed toe, in my opinion. lol
January 9th, 2021 at 12:20 PM ^
We can do better. Let him find somewhere else to go.
