Even better was when the other team had already pulled at least 1 goalie, so you would end up with "Dancer / Sieve / Sieve!" |

I believe it was probably Mumford High. The band director there is also the UM Alumni Band director, who is, by far, the most entertaining band director I've ever seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCp0KQpJ16s (watch from about 0:47 onwards) |

As long as they play the Swedish national anthem before the game, I'm ok with playing against Sweden. |

I think that the "random ship" is supposed to represent UA-Anchorage ... the SeaWolves |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Call me a traditionalist |
Call me a traditionalist, but I don't WANT to see a Big Ten Hockey conference. I think it will pretty much destroy college hockey as we know it. I like the fact that in hockey, some of the smaller schools get a chance to be powerhouses. Without UM, MSU and tSIO, the only "Name" school in the CCHA is Notre Dame. With ND as the marquee name in the conference, what do you think the likelihood is of having a CCHA TV contract? What network would pick that up? I realize that the other schools in the conference are competitive, but names drive tv viewership. Nobody, outside of the most devoted fans of those schools or diehard college hockey fans would ever tune in to watch Bowling Green - Ferris State. However, once you add a team that people across the nation recognize, then you'll get some viewership. The problem becomes even worse in the WCHA. Without UW and UMn, one could argue that the only schools that are at all well known outside of hockey are CC and DU. Unless you live in the state of Minnesota, chances are, you probably haven't heard of Saint Cloud State or Mankato. Would anyone, even the most diehard college hockey fan tune in to watch a game between Bemidji State and UNO? |

You could always just do what they did with the hockey helmets when they first went to the winged design ... yellow electrical tape. These days, I think we're having them airbrushed or custom made. I see no reason why airbrushing couldn't be an option for the new Bulwark helmets too. |

Yeah, and the Syracuse Band, at least during my time there (2000-2004) sucked almost as much as the Syracuse football team. I grew up in A2, listening to the MMB every Saturday (and if the wind was right, I could even hear rehearsals from my backyard), and it was a real shock to go to SU and hear the band. My first thought was "Wow, we're in a domed stadium, the band has mics in front of them, and I can still barely hear them" |

Vote against synchronized skating. Toe Picks are evil. |

Where's the Early 90's hockey white jerseys with the blue shoulder piping? |

Am I the only one that misses Bill Curry in the broadcast booth? If nothing else, just for the entertainment value in trying to decipher what he's actually saying. I seem to remember him calling a UM-Wisco (I think it was Wisco, anyways) game, and at one point saying that "Wisconsin's gettin whipped like tied goats!) (granted, I wasn't really aware that tied goats were routinely whipped, but what do I know? I am a Northerner, after all) Very happy that Steve Levy has given up College Football. Now if we could only get him to give up any other form of announcing. |

From the amount of food talk on here, I figured perhaps we actually DID recruit a hot dog. Now I'm hungry, and missing A2. Damnit. |
| 4 years 8 weeks ago | Burn the boats? |
so, if my quick glance at the fastcompany article, and your commentary on it is correct, you're essentially saying "don't get on a boat with Barry Melrose"? Which, to be fair, is really good advice ... I mean, his hair is scary enough on TV ... i can only imagine the damage it could inflict at close proximity, like, for example, being on a boat. I also wouldn't be entirely surprised if there was a nice C YA chant when Oglesby was ejected ... I'm sure some basketball fans are also hockey fans. Plus, a good loud C YA chant is the best possible way to annoy Paula Weston. |
| 4 years 12 weeks ago | Shegos Brothers |
Yes, there are 2 Shegos Brothers, Matt, and Mark (who also goes by "Duke"). Way back when I first started watching Michigan Hockey, (93-94 season, if I recall correctly), the CCHA used a 2 Referee/1 Linesman system, which lead to the possibility of having both of the Shegos brothers on the ice at the same time. When they weren't there, the Shegos chant was used out of respect, because back then, those 2 were the best in the CCHA. Shortly thereafter (95-96 season?) the CCHA (and the rest of the NCAA) switched to a 1 Ref/2 Linesman system, and the Shegos chant's meaning switched to "If there's one Shegos out there, we want the other one (doesn't matter which one), if it's none of them, we want one of them" (again, out of respect, because they were the best in the league) Sometime in the 2000's, one of the brothers (Matt, I think) retired from his on-ice duties and became a supervisor. I think at some point since then Mark has retired, and Matt has returned to the ice. And on the subject of referees and the institutions they graduated from, Steve Piotrowski is a Ferris alum, and I would have absolutely no qualms about seeing him on the ice in a UM-Ferris game. (Craig Lisko is also a Ferris alum, and a former goalie on their team, but I haven't seen him work enough games ... I don't think he likes Yost very much, last time I saw him there in stripes, he STILL got called a sieve) |

a long time ago, when I first started using this identity online, certain companies who happen to run a rather popular instant messaging service, wouldn't let me have enough letters, so I cut out an "e", and have used it ever since. |
| 4 years 13 weeks ago | Regional Site Selection |
So, the NC$$ has decreed that after this year, no hockey regionals will be held at on-campus locations. Apparently, they feel there's no way to have a neutral atmosphere at an on-campus venue. And my question to them is this ... Is it possible to have a neutral atmosphere at a venue that's less than 10 miles from the campus of the host school? (See: Xcel Energy Center, host University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, 7.5 miles) I think the real reason is that the NC$$ is sick of people whining about having to play Michigan at Yost ... however, I'd like to remind the whiners that Michigan has beaten DU and CC in Denver, Michigan has beaten BC in Boston, and Michigan has beaten UNH in New Hampshire. (I'll also make the point that the X is a VERY nice arena ... however, does the NC$$ really expect a full house for a REGIONAL? If UMn isn't playing, they'll have less than 5,000 butts in the seats of a 20,000 seat arena. Yeah, THAT looks real good on TV.) |

Apparently, it's getting too expensive to buy a vowel ... hence, we have products like "Mtn Dew", a "Razr", and "Rbk Hky" |

not always up to date (sometimes up to 2 periods behind), but http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaah does track college hockey. Also, you can call 800-555-TELL (8355) and then go through their voice-activated menu ... Sports > College Hockey > Michigan ... again, not always completely up to date, but better than nothing. |

Yes, but the whole point of playing goalie is to try and force one's knees to bend in ways they're really not supposed to. Goalies, probably more than just about anyone else, really need ACL's |
