The Tate and Denard show?

Submitted by MGoKalamazoo on
Since I don't get the Big Ten network here in the great state of Kentucky, I did not have the chance to see every football game. Now that I covered part of my behind, I was wondering what the communities thoughts were on the Michigan offense throwing out a formation with Tate lined up at QB and Denard lined up as running back, leaving open a wide array of possibilities ie; tailback pass, screen pass behind the line/super throw down field, or anything not involving Denard running the ball straight up the middle.

I'm sure you can find some opinions about this topic in the 5627 threads that have been made about it in the past year. But I wouldn't mind seeing it in action. I would rather they get their basic plays (i.e. the read option) down first before they throw gimmicky plays in there.

I believe this was attempted at least a couple of times during the year (however, with little success, so you didn't miss much). I was calling for UofM to explore this option right after the WMU game when Denard showcased that he cannot be "herded" by any means possible. I'm hoping it still remains an option in RR's playbook, because if Denard becomes a stronger passing threat I could see this working extremely well. EDIT: Each time it resulted in Denard running up the middle, but I don't know if that's how it was designed.

The Tate and Denard Show Last season it was on the Lifetime Network, you know - it started out great, then one got hurt from 'domestic abuse', and then it just continued downhill to a sad sad ending. This season thankfully the Speed Channel has picked it up, so watch out - nothing but pedal to the metal the whole season!

I caught the Tate and Denard Show on Spike. Either that or it was an episode of 1000 ways to die... couldn't tell for sure. Speaking of Spike check out Blue Mountain State if you haven't yet... it is hilariously hilarious. When things start to click I would love to see them both back there from both an entertainment standpoint and opening up the field for everyone else. Best case scenario 2nd half of this season. Would not want to be a backer making a read between shoelace timewarping somewhere or tatter tot triple axling out of the pocket.

Denard burned the OSU CB on at least one play in that game. I don't think Tate could throw the deep ball then with the injured shoulder though. That or he just didn't see him.

Last season there were just too many things keeping this from working. Tate's shoulder, Denard's poor secondary reads, Tate not running the read option that well, both being freshmen, etc. This season I hope to see them in the backfield together more often. The possibilities are endless. I'm thinking Moundros or Hopkins in the backfield to block, read option to Denard, run the receivers deep and slip Koger in to the secondary giving Denard a run/pass option. 10+ yards easily - boom goes the dynamite. Is it September yet?

(Disregard content of textbox at beginning) This is just one play, but it seems like Denard should stick with one position until he becomes proficient. It doesn't seem like he really had a clue on this play(ball was slightly underthrown, though). He attempted to learn multiple positions last year, and never fully grasped any of them. I believe he should play QB until he figures out the offense.

You would think we were at Columbus with the cheers you heard from OSU fans. It never pained me so much looking at all that red when playing The Victors for pregame. This better change in two years when both teams are playing for the Rose Bowl. Period. Paragraph.

over the low rated "Afternoons with Steven N' Nick" which sadly lacked star power, chemistry, and rarely featured any big celebrities. The critics panned it, and shortly after the sweeps ratings came out, their contracts were not extended. "The Tate & Denard Show" on the other hand, has the makings of a hit. It's bubbly, and has more engaging hosts who really connect with their target audience. Tate of course has california golden boy good looks, coupled with his own signature brand of moxy; while Denard brings an element of southern street cred, and a quirky style that has all the mall-kids untying their shoes. Initially a bit shaky with their coffee & cream dynamic, the sophomore dou are poised to set a new standard in chatty quarterback banter. Look for great things from this pair in 2010!

Denard on the field, plain and simple. Tate is the starting QB, which I think he'll keep, but Denard is too much of a playmaker to keep on the bench, even if Gardner red-shirts. I also think this is Denard's last year at QB, which I don't think is a bad thing either. He's a crazy playmaker, and I assume he'll show that more this year.

neat idea but completely unnecessary, imo We're going to have weapons and speed all over the field no matter who we put out there next year. This offense will be very tough to defend without any gimmicks.
