Take the anger out on ND

Submitted by TK on October 20th, 2019 at 12:02 AM

Sorry, I’m sure this is a stupid snowflakey topic, but I need to say it. We proved today we can play. We shouldn’t be fearing ND coming to AA. Jump out quick and lay the wood on the Domers and let’s make a run this year.

You realize they claim 6 MNC since our '48 title and at least half of those are recognized as legit? In that same time we have 1. So they have been to Indy for the championship, played in the playoff and won more national hardware than us.

Keep harping on tradition because that is all we got, but let's at least be honest and recognize that our tradition of being elite ended shortly after WW2.

We sure did prove it! Except you had to drop that pass I threw right to you in the end zone.

But the question is: What if they are angry, too?

That part sucks. The thing is we deserved to win and luck and officiating wasn't on our side. That's football though and you deal with it. However, as a barometer for the future, where luck will be evened out, this game was a positive sign.

Also, regardless of no chance of any trophies being won this year, we still have a chance to beat ND, MSU and most importantly - OSU. ESPECIALLY the latter. This game shows we won't get absolutely dicked by them, and there's hope that perhaps we improve, and by the time The Game rolls around, luck is on our side the way it was on PSU's side today.

If I'm JH, the entire objective of the year now is to focus on getting over the OSU hump. Fuck them over and put them out of the playoffs. This year will mean something if that happens.

That this game didn't turn into Madison: the Sequel is something to feel good about.

I know people only fixate in wins and losses, but they actually looked like an efficient offense for long stretches tonight. That's progress.

I think next week will be a great game, and hopefully the home crowd gives us the necessary edge.

Make a run for... what, exactly, at this point? They now have 2 B1G losses. Bowl tie-in rules make Michigan ineligible for the Citrus or the Outback. Meaning it's either the Rose Bowl with a conference championship, or the 4th tie in--or worse. In other words, Michigan is heading for a lower-tier bowl game no one cares about on a day that doesn't draw attention, with several key players probably sitting out, and which no one will remember the second it's over.

Just another year that's basically all over before October is through.

We are playing for rivalries, momentum, and changing the narrative about the program. Support the team. Beat ND. If you're in AA, show up and get rowdy, don't be a wine and cheese eater (nothing against either of those perfectly great substances but you know what I mean).

This season could be another 10 or 11 win season but if the momentum is different at the end of the year after beating rivals it completely changes the sentiment around the program. Let's. Fucking. Go.

I'd rather we take it out on the conference.  They screw UM over at nearly every turn - maybe send feelers out if the ACC will give us a better deal.  Even their numbers out for when ND becomes a full member.

Even if there is no move, it communicates to the Big Ten admins that we are not pleased with our treatment and willing to walk.

What better alternative would you suggest that isn't on the other side of the country?

Independent is not a good option - ND is the only one currently benefiting from it and I would expect that status to change in the next 10 years or so.  The PAC is too far, the SEC is too far and a bad culture fit, and anything else is a big step down.  The ACC is somewhat geographic (having ND, Pitt, BC, and Cuse helps), similar culture, and we would be one of (if not the) largest fish in that pond over all sports (with a better chance of winning a division, let alone the conference).

The Big Ten is nice, but not worth staying without fair (note: not preferential) treatment.  And anymore the payout from TV contracts are similar enough between conferences.

My argument was that we have not been treated the same as the other powers in the conference over the past few years (read and understand my statement before lobbing your ad hominems).

One of the possible counters to this is to threaten to leave the conference (which teams do for similar reasons - why do you think Neb, Colorado, and A&M left a conference they co-founded?).  However, there needs to be a realistic alternative and I posit the ACC as the best one.  This is not some random hot take - just like an individual looking around to see what other job opportunities are available, it might not be a bad idea to see what interest would be present from the ACC.

As far as keeping MSU and OSU as non-con rivals, why wouldn't they ultimately do it?  It might not be every year, but there would be too much mutual interest in keeping those series alive.  Iowa-ISU play every year and everyone knows at some point even Texas and A&M will resume their rivalry.  Plenty of other examples as well.

And what if they don't? What if they do the same thing they did tonight? Fall behind because of dumb mistakes, fight hard to come back only to fail, and lose in primetime again. Will that be a "moral victory," too?

I hope this is the last time Notre Dame is ever on our regular season schedule.

We don't need a tough non conference game anymore because the Big Ten Conference provides enough quality games.

Curious what the odds are that Gameday comes to town. I know it’s be odd to come here after a loss, but the only other big games are:

Wisconsin-OSU - normally this would be a no brainer, but Wisconsin laid a huge egg in Champaign and put a big damper on that OSU showdown next week.

Auburn-LSU - another logical choice, but Gameday was already in Baton Rouge last week and covered LSU when they played at Texas. So I think LSU is out, also considering they‘ll be saving up for that massive showdown in Tuscaloosa in a few weeks.

No other games of note next week. My money is still on Wisconsin-OSU, but you never know.

We will most certainly play better because we're at home.  If we get the second half team we saw tonight all game against ND we will run the Irish out of the stadium.  No joke.  I'll take Michigan and the couple of points the bookies will give me.

The season is over my friend. This game has become completely meaningless. Now all that’s left is a chance to ruin Ohio state’s playoff run. Start praying

The home field advantage will be huge for Michigan. I hope the offensive play calling will be as aggressive early in this ND game as it was after they fell behind 21-0 against PSU.
