Super Bowl Open Thread
Here's your MGoBlog Official Rooting Guide:
.
.
New York Giants |
New England Patriots |
|
---|---|---|
MVP Candidates | David Baas and Mario Manningham, plus RBs coach Jerald Ingram and Asst. (to the) Linebackers coach Jim Herrmann | Tom Brady and Zoltan Mesko, plus Mallett if you count him. |
Known Buckeye Associates | Jake Ballard (TE) and Jim Cordle (backup to Baas) | DL Coach Pepper Johnson (played under Earl Bruce). |
Spartans Charitably Employed | Greg Jones (backup MLB) and Devin Thomas (3rd string WR) | Brian Hoyer, but I don't count this against them because I find a Spartan as manservant to both Brady and Zoltan (srsly: he's listed as the Space Emperor's backup as PK holder!) totally acceptable. |
Suspected Domer Sympathizers | Justin Tuck (starting SDE) | Sergio Brown, a 3rd string safety |
Other known affiliations | The original Mara (current owner's grandpa) bought and disbanded the Detroit Wolverines (NFL) in 1929 just so he could have Benny Friedman | Kirk Ferentz, Nick Saban, and Charlie Weiss all served as asst. coaches under Belicheck at one time. OC Bill O'Brien will become Penn State's new Head Zook after game. |
Sorry to have taken over M-Wolverine's thread. I planned to have this go up at 5:30 and he beat me to it. Here's his original post:
Less than an hour away. Should be a good game. The commercials. The halftime show featuring someone steering her kid to Michigan. Brady, Zoltan and Mallett vs. Manningham, Baas and Herrmann. I'll be rooting for Brady to win his fourth, and get to the arguably greatest player/QB of all time level, so we can say THAT GUY came from Michigan. (And my general stance of rooting against Mannings). But if you're a diehard Giants fan, no problem. Just remember your team has twice as many Spartans as the Pats. ;-) Enjoy the game, the food, the family, friends, and fun!

Stupid Sumperbowl squares, how does 9-0 win twice
February 5th, 2012 at 7:55 PM ^
Terrible original post.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:06 PM ^
I know right! I hit on a $100 board. So pissed when I found out I had 9-0, originally. $2500 though! How lucky right?

Your signature has one too many wins for the football team, and the OSU record isn't right either. The MSU record is correct, but for basketball, not football (it's 67-32-5).

I feel like I'm watching a cross between Ben Hur and the Big Lebowski

I'm a big fan of ABC, although it's because there kegs are such a good deal. $100 for a half barrel of a very solid, drinkable IPA means I will defend them to the death.

Drinking a coke here, getting over the flu.

Worst. Halftime. Show. Ever.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:18 PM ^
I'm eating Thai food and drinking whiskey. Also, I really like Clint Eastwood.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:20 PM ^
Detroit hell yeah!
February 5th, 2012 at 8:21 PM ^
That was a, um, weird halftime show. But honestly, I don't know what to expect anymore with halftime shows. At least Madonna is a consumate professional - I'd be annoyed if they brought our Kerry Underwood or Nickelback and asked them to put out a halftime show.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:23 PM ^
For a moment I thought we were in ancient Rome.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:23 PM ^
Did not see that coming.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:27 PM ^
but I enjoyed the halftime show. I'm not even a big pop fan but I did enjoy the production and the blend of Madonna and new. I just felt like it was well put together. On the actual football stuff, Patriots putting together a good drive. Lessgo.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:32 PM ^
the NBC feed online blocked the Madonna half time show...fucnk we did not get to see it streaming...hopefully someone will post it on Youtube...and I can see it there before the government gets it torn down...
February 5th, 2012 at 8:34 PM ^
I agree - Madonna looked good out there, and the music was fine.

Of course I'm not much of a fan of usual Super Bowl halftime shows. Enjoyed her incorporating cheerleading and marching band with her Cleopatra vs. the Spartans stuff. (Yes, Sparty. Cleopatra won.) Not much actual singing (from her, I mean), but spectacle to spare. And nice gymastics from football-size people.
Of course she took a few dance courses at Michigan before she dropped out for the wild life.

Brady's en fuego!
February 5th, 2012 at 8:28 PM ^
I feel like because of Gronk, Hernandez is very overlooked. Dude is an absolute stud.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:31 PM ^
Brady is Dialed In right now... like the honey bee to the flower... it smells like another SB MVP for Mr. Brady coming up... his O line is giving him great protection too.... its nice to see Ochosinco get a ball too.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:32 PM ^
Wow Brady with another record!
February 5th, 2012 at 8:36 PM ^
Neither defense looks willing or able to really shut down the other, so this should be a fun second half.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:38 PM ^
Chung lit that dude up! as a former strong safety...I applaude that stick.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
Perfectly clean too, not even close to the helmet
February 5th, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
I like the Bud ad with the do you believe in miracles reference
February 5th, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
is such a fox
February 5th, 2012 at 8:51 PM ^
Giants are getting lucky with these turnovers - that's been two fumbles they got back.
February 5th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
Fumble recovery is totally a skill
February 5th, 2012 at 8:58 PM ^
It's only a skill if it has a rating in NCAA 12 or Madden
February 5th, 2012 at 9:01 PM ^
Yeah, I feel like the Giants have got a couple nice bounces. The two fumbles and the FG bouncing in off the upright.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:05 PM ^
And now that's three fumbles that NY hasn't had to pay for
February 5th, 2012 at 9:00 PM ^
Did I just see NFL try to show Barry Sanders wearing #23?
February 5th, 2012 at 9:04 PM ^
February 5th, 2012 at 9:05 PM ^
If only they had Junior Megatron, would have been a TD
February 5th, 2012 at 9:04 PM ^
That was a stupid throw, Gronk may be good but he can't jump on one leg. Would have been a TD if he didn't underthrow him too
February 5th, 2012 at 9:05 PM ^
Man, the Giants are INCREDIBLY lucky on these fumbles. At some point that has to go the other way, right?
February 5th, 2012 at 9:06 PM ^
The heave and pray didn't work out. It didn't work in the AFC Championship game either. Brady's luck hasn't been great so far. As I type, another recovered fumble for the G-Men. All the breaks going their way.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:05 PM ^
Wow they just keep recovering those fumbles.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:06 PM ^
Stupid Ferris Bueller commercial is stupid.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:09 PM ^
February 5th, 2012 at 9:07 PM ^
all over it. Fortunately, it leaves the Jints backed up.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:07 PM ^
He-man has made it to the superbowl!
February 5th, 2012 at 9:10 PM ^
Not going to lie - I thought that Act of Valor was the Call of Duty movie I've heard about.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:12 PM ^
90% of these car commercials are horrible
February 5th, 2012 at 9:17 PM ^
If Eli wins another Super Bowl I'm done with the NFL. The guy is total goober.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:20 PM ^
I think people bag on him a bit too much, but he definitely is a beneficiary of a good defense and not having to really carry this team like other QBs. Like, if you gave Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, or Brees this defense and the receivers, they'd be putting up great numbers.
February 5th, 2012 at 9:29 PM ^
February 5th, 2012 at 9:20 PM ^
If that's the case, you would have been done with the NFL in the 70's, after Bradshaw racked up 4 of them.
