used to be a Kindergarten teacher? Stuffed animals and the Little Engine that could? I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or be embarrassed. Everytime I see anything about GERG, I start picturing his next job will be GERG Chops Sing Along.

We may all have disputes about who should coach, who should play, what scheme to run, who's in the wrong damn position, what's the status of the recruits, why is DB waiting so long, can't we tackle anyone this week, ect...

But we can all agree that this team has more character and characters than I've seen in a while.  Hell, if ever!  I don't know whether to Laugh,Cry, or Gerg at this OP!  Derp!

couldn't have said it better myself. I absolutely love this team a lot of heart and character players. On a side note maybe this wont be GERG last season at the helm of defense because Rich appears to be loyal to his assistants and he might try to sell the youth as a major reason for struggles and make a case to keep GERG. My vote would be clean house on defense (except Tall i think he is a quality coach) and bring in a defensive coordinator that knows how to coach the 3-3-5 or a up and comer like Buddy Green from Navy. In any event i would just like an identity on defense something these current defensive coaches seem to not been able to zero in on yet.

If someone rubbed a My Little Pony on Mike Martin and then he got a sack, we'd be demanding it on every down. Mock if you must, but fan silliness>DC sillyness.

wow. That is all I have to say about him. I hope this bowl is his last game. Seems like a nice guy, but doesn't have what it takes.

Scott Shafer next NIU coach?

As for the NIU job, former WMU defensive coordinator Scott Shafer is one name that might be considered. Shafer just finished his second year as the DC at Syracuse — turning the once-woeful Orange into the nation's No. 5 defense. He spent eight seasons as an assistant at Northern Illinois (1996-2003), the last four as the Huskies defensive coordinator.

I wonder what might have been if we had given him a second year instead of hiring Gerg...

let him run his own defense with his own staff. That is the real problem. Will Rich be willing to give up power and maybe let a few of his assistant buddies go on defense? No matter how many years Shafer or GERG get, running a foreign defense with guys they don't know as postition coaches is a recipe for the ugly mess we've watched for three years.

...and if RR is the one dictating it, then he will be gone after it fails again next year.

Oh wait: I'm sure we'll be young & injured again next year!  Other teams suffer injuries and graduation without exiting the top 100 in total D.  No more excuses.

(I will concede that the secondary was hit by more BS than I've ever seen in one year.)

How did anybody hire this guy after seeing Mr. Rogers ramble about the 'Little Engine that Could' at a football presser!?!? I'm assuming this was after his team was blown out a couple days prior.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Gerg's favorite part of the football bust was the Grobin sing a long while caressing his stuffed beaver...

I'm sure Gerg is a nice guy, but ship his ass, his stuffed beaver and his little engine that could out of town please...Thank You

Another reason DB would be waiting to make a move is he is going to keep RR but clean house on D and we need the D coaches for the bowl game.  Any thoughts?

I flew up from Fl for the last home game and by chance ended up talking to a guy who used to coach at USF with three of the current UM coaches. They had arranged tickets and a room at the Campus Inn for him and his friends. He wanted to see a UM game before everyone got fired. Said they were all afraid of getting the ax. If they didn't, for sure there would be changes made by RR on the D. I questioned him on who would ever want to coach D under RR. His reply was $$$$$$.
