I didn't need to have in my head.

Yeah, those greasy homogenized nfl stadiums sicken me also.

My understanding is that if you have your spring game at a field that isn't your home field, coaches aren't allowed to talk face-to-face with any recruits who happen to be there. But you are allowed to talk face-to-face with them if they are on campus or at your team's stadium.
So the reason it's not at Ford Field is so Harbaugh and his staff can chat with recruits at the game, which is a pretty good reason.

I'm not saying there's a rule against it--there isn't--I'm saying that there are huge advantages to having it on campus (like the staff speaking face-to-face with recruits).

not what you said at all in your original comment.....you actually implied that there is a rule against it. I ain't made at you bro, but you need to own it.

What part of this is not implying that there is a rule that prohibits this from happening.....?

hmmm. I thought OSU held theirs at Paul Brown intentionally... for recruiting purposes. Cincy is a pretty talent rich area...

You never know about the weather in Michigan. Hopefully it will be warm. I like the idea of it being at night though.

says partly sunny with a high of 56 and a low of 38. PERFECT football weather.
Yes, AccuWeather actually publishes a 42-day forecast.

Not coincidentally I'm sure, April 1 is Bo's birthday.

will need to be booked Saturday morning, I guess.

May I suggest the Frozen Four in Tampa the following weekend instead?

I can't remember us ever having a spring game on espn like Oregon, Bama, LSU, Auburn sometimes have. I think Harbaugh could push the network to broadcast it with nothing much else on at that time of year. Hopefully it isn't a cold night or we'll have about 500 people in attendance which won't look good to recruits.

Well we got 60K off of the excitement of JH. I think it goes down a little this year. For as long as I've been here the AD hasn't tried to make it a big deal like other schools in our conference have. I think Jimmy would be a big spring game guy due to signing with the stars and satellite camps.

Nice. That'll be a fun friday night thing to pre-game. And Lil' Dicky will be in town performing at Hill the next night.

If people line up at 4 AM at an MDen on a Friday morning in February, I think there will be plenty of people at the spring game.
It's Friday night, you get to go watch a scrimmage and then then head out in Ann Arbor for a beer or three. Sounds promising.

I look forward to the beer or three with you after the guaranteed Michigan victory

But who really cares? You're talking about attendance figures at a glorified practice. It doesn't mean anything.
February 19th, 2016 at 12:17 PM ^
It matters in looking good for recruits especially when you're rival has 100k at their stadium.

Every little thing matters. We should know this with this staff after they did satellite camps and SOTS and are getting the Schembechler Hall weight room renovated.

This isn't the night game Hackett was talking about earlier, is it? That would suck...

wow shocked at a night spring game, but love it

I'm sure I'm not the only mother of a young child who is disappointed. I know lots of families like the spring game because it's an easy way to take kids to the stadium and watch UM football without paying for tickets for kids or worrying about having to leave early and miss something. We live pretty close to A2 so depending on time we might still go, and I'm sure families with young children are not the groups UM is concerned about attending, but it's still disappointing from that perspective.
Raoul's possible explanation re timing of spring practice and lacrosse double-header on April 2 makes a lot of sense. I just wish it could have worked out diffrently.
February 19th, 2016 at 1:15 PM ^
Personally, I am going to scope out the weather when it is close and make the call then. I'm not in love with the game being on a Friday, but at least it doesn't back up to a holiday this year.
February 19th, 2016 at 2:27 PM ^
Actually, the April 9th ran up against my wedding anniversary too, which I should celebrate - if I wish to at all (and if I don't wish to do so, do I live? That's the question). It was a weekend where a lot was going to be going on, needless to say. April 1st, even if it is a night affair, works a lot better for me, strangely enough.

WD--seriously. I don't understand all the hate you get but your comments about this have come off as kind of petulant. It's an experiment. If it works, everyone will copy it (again) and if it doesn't, we won't do it again.
I think it's going to be fun.
February 19th, 2016 at 12:00 PM ^
I don't know if it's an experiment. Other schools like Illinois have done it before and it's killed their attendance. People work on fridays and it's cold after dark that early in the year.
February 19th, 2016 at 12:05 PM ^
And that might be the case for us as well, but I'd think Michigan fans will travel better for this than IL fans do. And there's the television aspect, which I'd think isn't much of a factor for IL.

Given the fact this game hardly ever attracts more than half a stadium's worth of people, there's a lot of people (like me) who never go to the Spring Game anyway.
February 19th, 2016 at 12:19 PM ^
I think WD is right on this. I live in Ann Arbor and will probably not be able to go unless the start time is pretty late. There will be many locals who would ordinarily go that will not. I know it would be a tough sell to my wife.
That being said, it's a spring game and I'm not sure there is a ton of value in high attendance anyway. I'm not too tore up about it.
