Their food is the worst. You can find some decent international options in Amsterdam, but the native Dutch food is terrible. Boiled carrots and crap. Yuck.

I was stuck in Eindhoven on business for the '06 OSU game, and this was before streaming. I had to "watch" it on a gamecast sort of thing. Straight misery -- and I hold the Dutch responsible for not having any frickin' sports bars I could go to to watch that game in a city with hundreds of thousands of people.

This is fishy.  The fraternity that supposedly tagged Sparty is Alpha Omega which is the dental fraternity.  Doesn't seem like a group that would do this.  Now if you are talking the frat that destroyed the two resports in Northern Michigan then I may believe it.

It was probably Dantonio stirring up the disrespect pot.

We were at band camp the same week as a small-town Ohio school all four years I was in HS.  Not sure what we did to annoy them other than being suburban and middle-class.

My senior year they trashed their own dorm rooms and blamed us.  The campus police made all the kids from both schools wait outside the dorm until the culprits came forward.  This waiting game went on for 20+ minutes.  When one of my bandmates approached the top cop and asked her if she could go inside to get her asthma medicine, the culprits thought they were being ratted out and confessed.  I'm guessing those kids weren't in this group:

I thought the same thing.  I'd put it at 40/60 that it was either by some Michigan idiots or Sparty idiots.  Considering the way they get up for a game is by bitching about Michigan... I could easily see a couple drunk Sparty kids doing this to get the team pumped for their game against the team from Oregon that Michigan isn't playing.  Compare that to drunk Michigan kids driving to East f-ing Lansing to do such a poor, small job & drive all the way back.  I don't see the effort of travel involved for such a poor job.

If it were quite a bit larger and/or complicated job I would say bravo... like affixing a plaque to the statue's base looking like any other plaque that might be there (cloning the one that is there, if there is one) that would only be obvious if you stopped to read that it is a properly titled & credited transcription of The Victors.

Pranks are wasted on the young.

Not a fan either.  It's been done way too many times, it lacks class, and they've beaten us how many times out of the past 7-8 years?

Ed: Is the vandal or vandals in this thread?

I just don't support vandalism is all and it reflects poorly on Michigan.  And I feel the "Well, they did it to us" argument (painting the M green) is incredibly childish.

I'm 35 years+ removed from college, and yet I still smile and remember fondly the stupid things college kids (myself included back then) do.

Nothing at all wrong with using paint for what paint is intended----to paint things.  It'll clean off, and it'll happen again...and again...and again.

It reflects poorly on Michigan?  All it reflects is that our students are not very good with spray paint cans.  Which is weird, because of the two student bodies, I'd expect Michigan students to know who Basquiat was.

Of course it's immature, but it's been going on for decades.  Get in a lather about it if you wish, but I honestly think you play into unflattering Michigan cliches by being so uptight about this.

Michigan alums have a bit of a "tea and crumpets" image that I've heard described as having a titanium rod up our collective ass.  At least that's what I've heard my whole life, and especially during my years on campus and living in Ann Arbor.  People coming on line and getting the "vapors" about this "reckless act of vandalism and destruction of public property" plays into that image.

And calling this "vandalism" may be technically accurate, but they paint our M and our rock, we paint Sparty, and so it goes.  It's like calling setting off a firecracker in a park "unlawful use of explosives endangering and terrorising the public".  It may technically be true, but makes the speaker seem shrill.

That's just like, my opinion, man.  But it's right!

More than that, it's a part of college football tradition. One could argue that it is an outdated and destructive part of college football tradition, and in fact there have been examples of pranks throughout the sport's history that were far more clever (Caltech punking the U-Dub card section at the 1961 Rose Bowl comes to mind). Nevertheless, stealing mascots, passing out phony student newspapers, breaking into rival campus buildings to play the fight song over the loudspeaker, and, yes, painting statues...these are things that are seen as wrong in society at large but as accepted, cherished, and ultimately harmless traditions of college football.

Of course, if you're going to paint Sparty, do a better job of it than whoever this was.

into the swim meet?  Who delivered the medical schoool cadavers to the alumni dinner?  Every Halloween, the trees are filled with underwear, every spring the toilets. . . .explode."

insanely classless and stupid gestures are part of the institution that is being a college student.  No need for holier than thou pretentiousness.

My opinion on vandalism aside, what also irks me is that if you're going to do it, do it right. Perhaps start with the correct colors, then focus on execution (really that's a terrible paint job), then maybe consider doing it the week we actually have to associate with that school.
