I don't know, it hurts public perception of Michigan and our student athletes by extension. What if a recruits parents were turned off by the immaturity or it re shapes what they believed Michigan to be?

I just don't understand why this excites people, I guess. It's a poorly sprayed 'M' on a statue. To me, the downside could be worse than the joy of having a letter on a statue for a few hours before its cleaned off.

I can imagine ESPN getting a hold of this footage and belaboring it on national TV while drawing upon how badly MSU has owned us in recent years and how this action makes us the new little brother. Would that be worth the fun spraying it on?

Who knows. In the end, it doesn't affect my life in any real way but I just think it's childish and pointless.

I guess I'm a square, then. That's fine. Your opinion of me matters 0%.

I admit that this act is college-ish as you mention elsewhere. I did stupid stuff when I was 18-22, too, but nothing like this. I suppose I have just matured enough to no longer find this "super cool bruh".

Well, I know that. I guess I was just attempting to illustrate the overall point that more harm could come from something like this than the few chuckles it may get from others.

Oh well, I guess I just don't get the appeal and why this is fun. Even as the raucous college student I was that spent 50% of my undergrad years at Michigan drunk, I wouldn't have wanted to drive an hour to East Lansing with a can of spray paint to paint an 'M' on the statue.

As illustrated above, that makes me a square.

what if the paint store's owner that they vandals bought the paint from, needed those two cans to put the store into the black, and as such, was able to afford peewee football for his son and the son turned into a mega football recruit who always looked fondly on the two cans of paint, maize and blue, that gave him a chance to play football and decided that he'd only play for Michigan because of it.

I think we'd be all talking differently if this were the straw man scenario we used.

This is a chickenshit move seeing how it's not Michigan v. MSU this week. It's just a lame attempt if it's not during the actual game week. If MSU painted the "M" on the diag in July everyone would call it lame and for good reason.

I sort of get it when it's done before graduation or before the game but this out of band vandalism seems doubley silly. I'd prefer that we forgot that safety school didn't exist except for on game weeks.

This is stupid. Why do this now of all time? I'm not a fan of vandalism in general, but if they're going to spray paint it, the only acceptable time is before the game. Even stupider since Harbaugh has been doing everything to keep things about the game and avoiding side distractions. MSU doesn't need any more fuel for DISRESPECT.

This is what college kids do.  And on the scale of stupid, this ranks pretty low (with DUIs, etc., ranking really high).

But the quality?  It looks like something Montana 300 would produce.  Unclever, not much substance, really third rate work.

(And to those saying this should be done only during rivalry week, recall that MSU students stand vigil over there statue that week.  Trying to paint it then could get pretty ugly, pretty quick.)

if some engineering students could rig up a drone with paint ball cannons to shoot at the statue during rivalry week?

That would really show the Michigan Difference.

@BrotherMouzone - I'm reading through this thread and I'm having a hard time telling if you think the people on this blog are fun or not. Also, are you for or against the spray paint job? If you could reply and clarify that for me, that would be great.

Everyone Murders

A crime against the state?

All it is is some spray paint on a bronze statue.  I don't think it's original or clever (or even a good paint job), but this sort of "vandalism" has been going on for at least 60 years or so.

It's not permanent damage, and it's a rite of passage for some college groups.  Not only am I not in a lather about this, I vaguely like it due to the tradition of this sort of vandalism.

Now I'd like it more if (a) the "vandals" had done a better paint job (that's some "Staee" quality work there), (b) it wasn't sporting some greek tags, and (c) we had more recent success against them.
