Something completely different: Iowa/Rutgers o/u is 28

Submitted by iawolve on November 9th, 2023 at 1:19 PM

Something to break things up a bit. It is a bit nutty now for good reasons so let's look at something else for a bit and marvel at it.

The over/under for the Iowa/Rutgers game has dropped to 28 which is the first college football game since 2000 to be under 30. This clearly a game for the sickos. You may want to hide the women and children from viewing this abomination lest their faces melt Raiders of the Lost Ark style .

I will put the o/u at 4 for Schiano being butthurt and ticked off at the presser about having to answer questions for his nonsense with his buckeye friends.

Ya do realize that o/u only requires Rutgers to score 18 points? While it's not certain they'll get that many, it's not totally out of the question.

Now, what IS totally out of the question is Iowa's offense getting more than 10 points.

18 points would be the second most that anyone has scored against Iowa.

Penn State scored 31. Nobody else has exceeded 16 (MSU).

Rutgers scored 7 against us. Iowa’s defense has been marginally better than ours pretty much the entire season.

18 ain’t happening. Under all the way

It feels like every week Iowa has been setting a new record for lowest recorded O/U, and every week the under still hits. It would be one thing if Rutgers was semi-competent at both rushing and passing, but I don't see a one -dimensional offense doing much damage to Iowa

This also reminds me, last year Brian and Seth were perplexed that Iowa sat back with two high safeties all game against Michigan and let us just steamroll down the field. Looking back in hindsight, it makes more sense that Iowa's great defensive staff was probably one of the first to recognize the true threat posed by JJ and was willing to gamble that taking Corum runs to the face all day was the lesser of two evils

I'm no gambler but it has taken way too long for these Iowa game o/u's to come down. This one is still too high and I've got to believe that the under betters make bank on Iowa games.

Idk, there's a reason that no O/U has been <30 in 20+ years. It's just so (relatively) easy to get there, you risk the book getting killed by people taking the over. A D/ST touchdown or two (I could easily see pick-sixes with those QBs) and suddenly the over is looking pretty good. Not to mention the possibility of OT (Iowa nearly went to OT last week against NW). Remember our 2013 game against NW (the fire drill FG as time expired)? That game went to OT tied 9-9, and ended 27-19.

Rutgers managed 16 against OSU. If they can get a couple scores early, I can see the Iowa defense letting up and this hitting the over.....but that's a big ask for Rutgers to do twice in a week, though, and Wimsatt is a turnover machine against an Iowa defense that excells in takeaways. I'd say safe money is still the under.

Iowa's last three games have combined to score 21, 22, and 17 points. RU has won games this year but it has not been pretty and their offense is still mostly a complete dumpster fire led by a QB who has zero passing ability. Iowa will shut down the run and force Wimsatt to complete passes in order to move the ball. That ain't gonna happen.

I'd say the under is an absolute certainty.

This game is in Iowa City - so, I don't know if that means Iowa starts the game with three (3) points.

If it does - the O/U still seems awfully high.

They'll play in the afternoon - the second half will be literally (and perhaps proverbially also) "in the dark".

I hope those viewing from the Children's Hospital enjoy what they see... and, get back to 100% as soon as possible.

as i told a work pal regarding the sparty - minnesota game:

i have an ever-diminishing number of hours left on this earth.  i'm definitely not wasting the ones i do have left watching THAT shit.

I'm taking the under on that. I'm guessing 7-3 Iowa. The seven points will be two safeties and a punt return for a field goal. I know that a punt return for a field goal is impossible, but it anyone can do it, it's Iowa.

WELL... if the punt return is made at the 2:00 minute mark of the 4th quarter and the score 4-3 at the time, the returner will intentionally take a knee at the RU 1 so the 11 players for Iowa who come out to snap the ball (i.e. not the defense, but since they don't play offense, I can't and won't call them an offense) will take about 1:59 to move the ball nowhere and kick a field goal as time expires to win 7.3.

It's funny - I started writing about how Rutgers just scored 16 against OSU and how Iowa can probably score at least 14 but they've only done that in half their conference games so...yeah, might go for the under.

"Hey, Fox, yeah, Tony Pettiti here. So anyway, we are thinking of hammering UM because of the Greatest Cheating Scandal Ever. But don't worry, we will replace their games against PSU and OSU with Rutgers-Iowa, where the o/u is 28. Oh, OK. I see your point. Well no, actually, my head is not currently up my ass, and that is a rude question, Fox!"
