Some blind optimism for today

Submitted by bluebrains98 on

Today feels a lot like 12/13/97. Michigan beat #1 Duke in basketball, and that was followed by the Heisman ceremony which resulted in our own Charles Woodson becoming the first and (to date) only predominantly defensive player to win the Heisman.

Today, we face #2 UCLA in basketball while Jabrill attends the Heisman ceremony. While it would be amazing for history to repeat itself, I can't say I'm holding my breath.

Anyway, GO BLUE!!!

Let's not forget 1991.  On this weekend 25 years ago, the Fab Five announced themselves to the world against #1 Duke with a huge comeback before losing in OT.  Desmond then won the Heisman that evening.

On that day, my daughter was just a few hours old (born around 11:45 pm 12/12). M beat Duke, Charles won the Heisman, and a couple weeks later, we went on to win the National Championship. It felt like the world was perfect and Michigan would never lose anything again!

Let's see. A Beilein team vs a ranked opponent on the road, our Heisman candidate has no chance of winning (unlike 1997) and we're not in the CFP. What is your point again?

Yep, my senior year. Rushed the court that day, came home and watched the Heisman huddled around a space heater in our apartment in the basement of some mansion on geddes. Such a stunning surprise. Back out to south U to party it up. Now here I am barreling down the 405 drinking roadies in the back of my UCLA neighbors camping van. Go blue.
