Snowflakes Thread: Defense vs. Ohio State

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

I am actually in Ann Arbor using a browser on a small tablet, so if this works, awesome for me (not for the game) -

This will be your thread for snowflakes and hot takes regarding the defense and defensive playcalling versus Ohio State.

Those of you talking about LBs in particular....yeah, I would agree.

The D is very good, but they aren't elite.  We played some really bad offenses this year and made them look really bad.  IU, MSU, OSU, and even Minny moved the ball on us a lot.  Still a lot to be happy about with the D and hopefully they can reach elite status next season.

Ohio State destroyed our front 7, just decimated it.

DLine before this game and OSU decided to ground the remnants to a nub and then discarding our LBs. Only 1 real buck and 2 1-techs to start the season - all 3 lost to season-ending injuries. Godin was overwhelmed and Hurst & Taco are pass rushers more than run stoppers. Awful lineup to stop OSU's power game. Next year UM will go almost 3 deep.

MSU's offense did not move easily on us.

They scored 21 points. 7 came on a trick play that they executed well (the FB route). And 7 of them came after a bullshit targeting call that extended the drive, plus a terrible no-call on what was holding.

To say MSU's O had their way with our D is insane. They played very well up until Minnesota, which was fluky for many reasons.

Honestly, our defense was bad against IU and OSU, but nobody else in my mind. Average against Minnesota, but strong against MSU.

It was extremely frustrating watching Barrett and Elliott slip through tackles to gain 3, 4, 5, 10+ yards after contact.  If you want to gain yards rushing on this defense run the outside stretch or read option.  If you have competent O line blocking you're going to destroy our D.  We need athletes on defense again and for God sakes we need competent linebackers again.  What I would do to have LB's again in the mold of David Harris.

What else is there to say?  Ugly ass game.  I hope I never have to witness another beatdown like that again.

Whoops, there simply were not any fucking adjustments. Look, if you give up 370 yds passing and 100 running you might get beat.  If you give up 370 yds rushing you will almost always fucking lose, irrespective of the passing.

3 man lines, 2 safeties way out of the box all fucking game long.  So for a power run team we get Rich Fucking Rod for a day on D?

Did no one review any of the fucking MSU tape?

No, I am not calling for his or any other coaches head, yes we are way better.  But a coach has scarcely had a worse day at the office than that.  And yes we can bitch about tackling, but tackling big fast guys outnumbered and in space without help is really tough. We put guys in a lot of bad positions to make plays and hoped for miracles.

Fucking ridiculous.

Are you fucking kidding me. It took me hours to have the energy to respond. Three down lineman in with three shit bag linebackers the entire game? I finally have the energy to ask, what the fuck were you thinking after 10 minutes into the game?

It was no surprise that they weren't going to throw. And yet we acted as if each running down was a magic trick conducted by Dave fucking Copperfield.

This was about the worst you could play...no cahones from the D, especially from the LBs. Never seen an LB crew play softer. My word. Maybe the worst performance of an LB crew ever in The Game. Its about toughness and they had NONE.

Please don't cry about Hoke's recruits, because they are Michigan footbal players and they should be expected to TACKLE. In the HOLE. They pussed out.

This was an embarrasment.

Biggest game of your life, and your outie becomes an innie.

Awful.

Newsflash, #15 and 16 are pretty much it for them. Put a hat on them and game is over.

Pathetic plan & adjustments.

I've seen kickers tackle better than our lb's.

Why wasn't peppers utilized to stop Barrett & Elliot??
