Sidney Crosby's Team

Submitted by Ultimate Quizmaster on
Probably a harmless comment, but really annoyed me when the announcers repeated that a few times. A small credit to him is that when he wins he acts with class. When he loses, that's a different story. I choked when the NBC people said that Crosby would have been just as gracious in defeat. Just think back to all his drama during the Cup Finals. List goes on. Congrats to Canada and Babcock though.

worse part is how he did Nothing for the first 65 or so minutes, only to score the game winning goal. now the MSM can continue slobbing on him. hate him so much. this ending was just as bad as when santonio caught the game winning catch in last years super bowl.....grr...

As a Canadian I can say that if we lost much of the blame would have went to Stevie Y as it did to Wayne Gretzky at the last olympics. That is a given when you are responsible for picking a team like this. Gretzky lost his job after we lost the last Olympics Stevie wouldn't have gotten the offer again had we lost this time around. I have never heard the Babcock thing. At this level there is very little the coach can do with such little time. He made some questionable moves at times but all in all I think he did a good job and a loss would have never been pinned on him, just like Quinn didn't get the loss pinned on him last time around. I also didn't hear anyone say it would ONLY be because of Crosby if we won. This was the most talent rich squad I have ever seen assemble and it was never going to be about one player.

After the game, I heard a Canadian fan blame Babcock for the US tying it late. I'm hoping that Babs and the Wings can make a run starting tonight. The rust should be gone for Franzen and the rest of the Olympian Wings. If Howard stays hot this team could be dangerous come playoff time.

The real hero for Team Canada this tourny ways Toews, without a doubt. Toews lead the tourney in points and was given the defensive assignment of Ovechkin, shut him and Russia down and really shut down the USA today. Yet Cindy will get all the dick sucking despite going 180 minutes without a point this tournament

Getzlaf is that douchey guy at the bar who thinks he is the shit cause he is making seven figures, even though he is balding with faux-Ohno facial pubes. His post-NHL role on Jersey Shore is calling. That he is going bald is scientific evidence of karma if ever there was any. Rosby is Rosby. Versus and NBC pull out their kneepads early and have their storyline for the next six months; it's Rosby's world, we just live in it. Yzerman FTG. Can't argue with that. Sacrifices taste to assemble a gold medal winning team. Super hard to root for the Western Conference A-Hole All-Stars, but at least he got it done for his county. Bad news is that now he'll probably leave the Wings to take a GM position with another team this summer.

Crosby may be the most overrated player of all time. He's good, but he may not even be the best player on his team. He definitely isn't the best in the league and will never be the next Gretzky.

You are joking right? Sidney is definitely the best player on the Penguins and is top 5 best in the NHL. He never will be the next Gretzky and likely nobody ever will be. Kobe will never be Michael despite Kobe being great. Crosby just won a gold medal to go along with the Stanley Cup the Pens won last year. At some point, you have to be logical and understand that Crosby is really good and if he were on the Redwings, he would be one of your favorite players.

and I will say that anyone else who has this same opinion on this board also knows nothing about hockey. I have said it before and I will say it now, there is no debate amongst hockey experts or fans who actually KNOW about hockey who the best two players in the world are. There is debate about those two, but not about anything else. Crosby and Ovechkin are the two best players on the planet, like it or not. I can understand not being a fan of his since he helped to beat your team, but making such irrational claims shows one of two things: you either know nothing about hockey or your are simply a poor loser who has to bad mouth the opposition.

Yeah, I mean did you see the Russia vs. Canada game? Ovechkin TOTALLY dominated Crosby in all facets of the game. Like all the faceoffs Ovechkin wins, and all the penalties Ovechkin kills. And my god, Crosby is so lazy he doesn't play any defense unlike Ovechkin who is practically a 3rd D-man when he is on the ice. /sarcasm Crosby is amazing because it takes a HOF defenceman like Lidstrom to even come close to shutting him down. And even then, he still makes his presence known on the ice. Crosby is one of the most complete players in the game, and anyone would be lying if they didn't want him on their team.

You obviously don't watch much Penguins hockey. Malkin is definitely not the best player on the Penguins, especially this year. It's really hard to argue that the player who is tied for the league lead in goals and leads the league in face off wins (by more than 100 wins) isn't the best (and most important) player on a team. As for Crosby getting "shut down everytime (sic) he comes across a quality defensive forward", the more appropriate comment is that Crosby's game is altered just like Datsyuk's game is when he plays against top flight offensive forwards on certain other teams. Both Datsyuk and Crosby are both so dynamic (and important to their teams) because they have the ability to switch their game on a moment's notice to play the shut down role. That's something that Ovechkin hasn't proven the ability to do.

Honestly, how hard is it to win with class? Losing with class is what shows character and the handshake snub in '08 was one of the weakest displays of sportsmanship I have ever seen. He's a douche.

You mean when Lidstrom didn't have enough class to wait around until the Pens celebration was done? I seem to remember about half the Red Wings waiting, and shaking Crosby's hand, but Lidstrom couldn't bother. I know he had won a few cups, and maybe couldn't remember the emotions from the first one, but to say that's Crosby's fault? That was a media creation.

Al Michaels: "Sidney Crosby, the Wayne Gretzky of the 21st-century." lolz How many years of this century has he been alive/played in the NHL, Al? Good grief. Such an overrated player. I liked Fedorov at one point too; that was before he became greedy, unyielding, and difficult. And he didn't have half the attitude problem Cindy does.

"I choked when the NBC people said that Crosby would have been just as gracious in defeat. " Care to provide just one example of Crosby acting anything less than gracious in defeat? I'll take just ONE example.

they thought they would neg you instead of give you an example since.....you know...they couldn't find one. I'll give you a +1 for staying objective while being from the Country that came in second place. I find it funny that some of these posters are talking about Sidney not being gracious in defeat (and by funny I mean ironic) when they are behaving like elementary school kids in the midst of this loss (name calling, crying and whining). At least they weren't the ones on the ice representing your country. Those guys showed class.

Yeah, I know I'm setting myself up for negs with my comments on this subject, but I really don't care. This isn't a Red Wings board. Frankly, I don't care if people don't like Crosby, but I just wish they could back it up with something rational, logical, and current. Which I would bet is probably right about where you stand on the issue, as well.
