I've never understood how these reported crimes never go straight to the local municipal police department.  It seems like whatever is in the University's best interest will cloud the school's judgment.

I hear what you are saying, but ruining the career/confidence of a non-athlete student is evil. I don't know how the administration could have turned a blind eye. Make an example out of ONE athlete and the ship will course correct. I know I'm being captain obvious, but this mentality lacks an iota of human decency. Its unbelievable to me. I'll stop here to avoid making a regrettable comment...

when it comes to MSU the hatred of Michigan runs that deep.  It's an all-consuming obsession.  I live in Lansing, I have visited many MSU tailgates.  On several occasions they have Appalachian State and Toledo banners hanging from their tents.  These banners hang EVERY weekend.

The hatred permeates throughout campus and has for years (I would dare say decades).  It's especially present within the administration. This hatred is so prevalent that they have toed the lines of human decency if it means they can get an edge over Michigan.  If certain programs (read Izzo and Dantonio) give them that edge, they are allowed to do whatever they wish.  And they're protected.

We all know that the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office was corrupt and the MSU athletic department had their own agenda when dealing with assaults by athletes and staff. We can only hope the victims can get justice and those responsible for enabling and committing the assaults go to jail.

Serious question: If evidence emerges to support my worst fears about MSU, when does the BIG10 kick them out of the conference. It is a national embarrassment.

Almost as sickening as the crimes and culture in EL...is the fact it's all subsidized by the hard working state of Michigan tax payers.  That needs to be corrected, especially when these dirtbags start going to prison.  How about some legislation for public university officials, stating if this happens, the school president doesn't get a golden parachute.   Gotta change....

As you'll note by my points total, I'm more of a reader than a poster. At the risk of grandstanding, I've got something to say, albeit very similar to many which I have seen here before. It's not targeted at any one person in particular, but more so intended for the audience as a whole. So here goes:

Let's put down our rivalry swords. I want MSU and OSU to lose in every sport every day. As sports teams, I don't like them. But this isn't about that. We're talking about young people's lives here, folks. As in people who came to these schools for an education, not to be caught in the crossfire of administrative and legal volleys. Many were (or are) athletes, but many more are not. Every day that these stories last in the news is another day that each of these people has to relive one of life's most cruel traumas. Every time one of us makes a cruel joke, well intended or not, is one more day that these people have to suffer. I suspect much of this will go away once we have our own sports to talk about, but if I may ask, let's stand down now. Cheer for our teams, yes, but don't be so reckless as to bring down those who have suffered enough.

tl;dr -- don't make sick jokes. you're not funny.

I don't see many jokes but I do see many people continuing to call for heads that need rolled (who have done shitty things, not done responsible things, and not supported your aforementioned students of the university(ies) because of greed and selfishness).  Sport rivalries be damned.

I dont think anyone is joking. We are sick of shit like what happened at MSU (institutional coverups with little to no punishment for the institution).

MSU, Pedo St and Baylor shouldn’t have athletic departments anymore.  Especially when it as rampant in the athletic department as it is at MSU.  Nassar, basketball team, football team etc.

This has nothing to do with a sports rivalry for me. As a father to two daughters hearing the stories that come out of that cesspool make me sick. I want the sick fucks who do this and enable it to be held accountable. It just makes it worse that it's MSU but if it was Purdue or Rutgers I'd still feel the same way, clean it all up and prosecute the ones responsible. Name names. Who are the athletes? Who in management knew? It should all come out.

I agree completely with your sentiment. However, that being said, if MSU is guilty they need to be punished appropriately, and if that affects the on-the-field or on-the-court performance, so be it.

I don’t necessarily want a verdict to directly impact the actual sports programs, but I’m also against lessening justice simply because it could affect the sports programs as well.

While I understand your concerns, I think the vast majority of the board has refrained from "making cruel jokes" about the assaults, the cover-ups, and the entire filthy mess at MSU.  Certainly that is the case in this thread, from what I see.

It doesn't matter where it happened, I'd be equally disgusted no matter where such criminal behavior occurred, and subsequently was hidden, further enabled, covered-up for, the whole ball of wax.  And then made worse by hiring Engler----or anyone conducting themselves as he has---to obstruct justice, to discredit victims, to deny, deflect, or otherwise circle the wagons.  And I truly believe that most others here feel the same

I don't think anyone in this thread is only interested in this because it makes MSU look bad.

There have been many woman coming forward saying they were raped or gang raped by football or basketball players and it's swept under the rug. This after all the Nasser stuff. So, people are happy that something actually seems to be done rhatay make them pay a bit for this shit.

tl;dr goes at the beginning. It's a disclaimer. I swear 90% of the time I see a tl;dr it's at the end of a long, rambling post, where only people who would actually have read the whole thing would find it, making it completely pointless. Sorry to vent at you, it's not personal, I just see it a lot, and it's almost always wrong.

I disagree on the basis that tl;dr is "too long; didn't read." As in, after I saw how long the post was, I didn't read it. Past tense. After the post. Now, what I think you want to see is a BLUF. Bottom line up front. THAT goes at the beginning and tells you the short version before you get into it.

Hopefully justice finally prevails. Of course everything will be alright in the (spartan) world if they can start beating Michigan again regularly in football.

We have a highly intelligent readership on this board, so I’d like to ask for some input regarding the following quote from the OP’s link: “Since 2015, MSU has been working to make campus a place of awareness, respect and safety...”

Um... I am not a public relations specialist or an attorney; with that said, I’m really struggling to see the wisdom in the wording of this public statement. Specifically, why would you include that phrase, “since 2015,” when the institution you represent has been around since long before then? I know they’re referencing institutional changes they believe they’ve made in the wake of Nassar, but this seems to say that MSU decided to suddenly care about “awareness, respect and safety” approximately four years ago. Can a public statement such as this one by a University spokesperson open the institution to more culpability? I’m just curious.

Also, I’m ready for football. Please.
