If you go by NCAA stats Wisconsin had the #1 defense in the country going into the Big 10 championship game. (or the week before, i.e. week 11 of the regular season).

Now there are warts to just using that because all it is is yards given up per game so with the horrid offenses in the Big 10 by and large it inflated every Big 10 defenses stats.  But with that, even on advanced metrics (which tries to adjust for competition, SOS, etc) Wisconsin graded around 10-12 nationally and was vying with PSU for #1 or #2 in the conf on almost every stat in 2014.  Their young DC is very good and is going to make a fine non P5 head coach in a year or two IMO.  (New coach at Wiscy retained him).

And Andersen went to Utah and scooped away their quite good DC for Oregon State, from Whittingham (his former boss)

They look somewhat fast, but my main observation was they look SMALL. Like every corner but one looked to be about Terry Richardsons build. I'm actually pretty certain that Delano Hill and Jabrill Peppers might be as big as, if not bigger, than their linebackers. That's a team where I could definitely see big runningbacks playing a huge part.

Not to mention the fact that I think the interior lineman could really get to that QB and he is a pretty small guy as well.

Now I'm just a nobody posting on an internet board, but...it seems to me that there's no way an offense should be that much father ahead of the defense, especially with in the first year of a program.  I'd guess, as others have already pointed out, that their defense is pretty bad.

Their offensive play makers did look fast, though.

Yep per physics there is no way an offense could be ahead of a defense this time of year.  In any program.   Read it here on the internet.

Reality is there D sucked last year by and large and they are generally a bottom third Pac 12 team.  If you have to face a P12 team as a warmup this is about as good of a choice as any - especially considering they lost their QB to the NFL.

The first play of the game for one of the offense's goes for an 80 yard TD or whatever it was.. that is pathetic when the defense should have an easy leg up on the offense after going against it all spring..

They have a few nice looking athletes, but overall their defense looks horrific, especially the run defense..

LB's were never in the right spot and the corner's weren't great either

Reminded me of the Denard 2010 spring game. We know how that season ended for us and they do not have Denard. Mobile QBs have given me nightmares since I became a UM fan in 87. I think their D is slow. You can scheme O way easier than D, ask RR. Typical PAC12 (-Stanford) "track meet" team.

Bottom line is if you score a million points, everybody thinks you're going to be great in the fall. If you score no points, you're gonna suck. In reality you're defense could just be really good or bad.

Not sure if the defense is just THAT horrible, or if they have some incredible speedsters. My $ is on a mixture of both. I think we will limit the big play but make a costly error that lets them score early
