Semi OT- MGoBlog Member Top 25

Submitted by swarwick33 on
We have started a MGoBlog Member Top 25 poll. I already have 6 guys for it, but would like to have at least 10. I think the max will be 25 voters. So if making your own Top 25 is something you want to do every week e-mail me and I will get you the information. I will post it as a diary every week on hear for everyone to read. My e-mail is [email protected]

I figured I'd participate. You should have one from me in your inbox. Edit: My first email to you is so incredibly stupid. I hope you get a good laugh out of it.

When would you want each Member to submit their weekly picks? The reason I ask is that I'm not always near a computer on Sundays which would make Monday morning the earliest that I could submit my picks.

I'd participate, but I'm going to have to miss all of next weekend. Between the gf this weekend and work picking up the next, I just can't watch as many games as I have the last few weeks. Might as well give someone else a chance.

Me participating in this poll could never happen because of my biases. For one thing I would NEVER put those punk JUG-STEALING BASTURD GOPHERS in any poll I vote on. UGH HATE YOU!

Just emailed you. Are you going to do similar awards to what Brian does on the Blogpoll? He may have some spreadsheets or something to make your job easier, unless of course those are top secret.

I'd suggest that you allow more people to vote in this, that way personal biases and ignorance would be minimized. The most efficient way to do that, in my mind, would be to make a public Google spreadsheet with an alphabetical list of all 120 D-I teams, then people could just assign the numbers 1-25 to their top 25 teams in their own column (simply have them label which column is theirs at the top). The spreadsheet can then automatically calculate the number of points that each team gets and generate a new list based on that. I think that that would involve the least amount of ongoing work for the OP and allow as many people that want to participate to participate. If you want help making such a Google spreadsheet I'd be more than happy to give you help (or just make it myself). The obvious problem is then people can tamper with other people's votes. Hopefully, most MGoBlog users wouldn't do something that low but if you wanted you could simply not give the link out to everyone but instead only those that specifically request it and that you (the OP) approve of. That's just my two cents on how I'd do it. If you don't want the poll until Monday night then I'm willing to participate if you're willing to have me then I'm willing to participate. One of my many GMail addresses is my screen-name followed by @gmail.com (I don't want to write it down because of the internet spiders and crawlers, I don't need more spam). Edit: I just emailed you about participating.

Actually you should let everyone over 420 points vote in the poll. Awww schucks. I'd just have my SID fill out the poll for me anyway... EDIT: Fellas this just a joke. I don't really have an SID. I was just trying to lighten your day.

Write up a little application that accepts formatted text files and automatically does this for you. You can send out a template file to everybody to fill out. Something like this: Week: VoterID#: 1. 2. 3. and so on. Let me know if you need help with setting this up. I am not going to sign up for the poll though, because I am notoriously lazy and don't want to be "that" guy who always needs to be chased down.

I think this could be a good idea. Given time, and participation obviously, it would be interesting to get the perspective of what I think is a fairly intelligent fan base. No offense to Bama fans or anything, but well, having Bama ranked number one every week followed by all SEC teams sounds kind of lame.

I think that would be why it would be more of a resultant based poll rather than a "see who voted which way and call them a dumbass poll." Hey, if the guy even wanted to, he could keep the individual submissions private and just tally the final results. That way no individual MGoBoarder could be called out.

Right now we are developing a Google Spreadsheet that I will hopefully be able to give out as a link. There will be no names, just info, and it will be open to everyone. There is a lot more demand than I thought, but this won't get crazy with it being "rip this guy b/c he is an idiot" it will be anonymous.

Obviousl, Message Board Guy is way more intelligent than any other life forms on Earth, and these polls ought to prove it. I'm sure all the participants will have time to watch ALL the games, study ALL the stats and numbers, and make a very informed, cogent decision on whom to rank from 1-25. I'm glad to finally see something like this happen. We ALL know the polls by the media are biased, shoddy, the voters don't watch all the games, or in the cases of some coaches, they have some LACKEY vote FOR them! I am going to be relieved, knowing that the people I trust the most--Message Board Guys--will finally solve yet another issue plaguing society for lo these many years--by finally getting the rankings of college football teams RIGHT for a change! YES! Go MGOBLOG!

Not a fan of ratings at all. But this ought to be fun because it just might show how difficult a process this rally is. It just can't be done fairly and even-handedly across the board. Case in point: The guy who showed us how he would vote had Virginia Tech at #4 in the whole country, as well as the nation. He also ranks Nebraska at #25. Now, Virginia Tech just went out and flogged Miami of Florida 31-7. Miami had been kicking peoples' arses. Fine by me. But a week ago, Nebraska went to Blacksburgh, Virginia, and played VaTech on THEIR home field and lost to them by ONE POINT on a last-second miracle 81 yard pass and a resultant TD. Huh? I mean, a ONE POINT LOSS AT VA TECH (the #4 team in the nation), plus waxing their cream puffs, and Nebraska merits all of a #25 ranking??? Think there's just a hint of '97 bitterness in there? Like I said, it's a difficult process, one that Message Board Guy thinks he will be able to do better than anybody else, so this will be FUN!
