Scouting Houston - Game Thread

Submitted by M-Dog on

If all goes to chalk, Houston will be our opponent in the Sugar Bowl.

I figured this deserves its own thread to get peoples' comments not only on how the game is going, but how they see the potential future matchup for us going.

The funny thing is, that's really when this board started hating James.  A few people disliked him over the TTU thing, but it was really when he kept talking about Hoke as the right guy for the job during last year's bowl that he became a source of outrage.  Of course, he ended up being right on the money.

In case anyone stopped watching, the bball team has let 10 points come off their lead. Still not ulcer inducing, but the lead is down to 10 and we have started turning the ball over and playing ole defense.

Looking at Houston's schedule, I don't understand how they're ranked #6.  I remember past Conference USA teams that went 12-0 (Tulane & Marshall) in recent years that faced the same level of horrible competition and they were never ranked this high.

They've been crushing teams lately and Keenum's getting a lot of press which helps. But #6 is definitely a stretch.

What's strange and maybe kills of that first thought of mine is that they're #8 in ELO but #16 in Predictor. You'd think the big margins of victory and lousy schedule strength would have it the other way around, but those close early games with bad teams aren't helping them any.

Case Keenum's stats are sublime and he has some Heisman buzz and reasonably high name recognition among CFB fans.

In some way similar to Colt Brennan's Hawaii team making it to the 2007 Sugar Bowl: a record-breaking quarterback froma  non-AQ conference often can propel his team higher in the rankings than they deserve to be

Most posts ever about a Conference USA game.  Also, this game feels like watching Northwestern playing Nebraska, except I think Nebraska is better than both of these teams.

Wow..... Houston is a paper tiger if there ever was one.... Or, should i say, paper cougar?

Denard and Fitz would utterly destroy this horrible defense and you can see that their offense wilts when it gets hit with a consistent rush.  Van Bergen and Martin n the line with Mattisons improvising and masking different LB and safety blitzs.....
