Schaefer/Wheatley coaching jobs
I met Scott Schaefer after a spring practice his hear as DC for RR. Very nice guy, very enthusiastic.
He was fired for GERG, and went to Syracuse as DC.
Buffalo Bills hired Syracuse head coach, Marrone, Schaefer hired to replace him this week.
Marrone has now hired Tyrone Wheatley as RB coach.

Well, good for Wheatley. I'm glad to see he's moving up in the world.

I'm not the grammar police, but I seriously couldn't understand what you were trying to say.
Edit: Now I get it...Wheatley is now the RB coach with the Buffalo Bills. Interesting, I wonder if he'd come back to Michigan to take the same role after Coach Jackson retires. If not, Coach Mike Hart is on Wheatley's track as an up-and-coming coach and would be a great addition.

was one of our fantasies, but now with his impressive coaching trajectory, I suspect he'd be waiting for Hoke's retirement. Or maybe Borges... Hmmm. Do many OCs come from RB coaching?
Fantasies continue.

Wheatleys got a ways to go before he'd be considered for a head coaching job at Michigan. Replacing Jackson is possible though (if Wheatley wants it). Can't imagine Jackson will be around much longer than 5-10 more year. Maybe he'll actually retire when Jeremy graduates

but is he actually a coach we'd want? I don't know his track record but our requirements for coaches should not be 1. MICHIGAN MAN 2. ....
January 13th, 2013 at 1:19 PM ^
Why the heck are we even considering Wheatley as an OC or HC?
Talk about taking things too far. He has no experience doing either and you guys are putting him as the coach-in-waiting?
Sorry, but to hold those positiions without any experience will rarely happen at Michigan unless you're a successful coordinator that is promoted when the HC moves on.

I would settle for another RB who could do what Wheatley did to Washington in the Rose Bowl. I know many are partial to Tim Biakabatuka's game against Ohio, but Wheatley's Rose Bowl performance is my favorite of any RB in Michigan history, or at least the last 52 years of it.

When the day comes to replace Jackson with Wheatley or Hart it'll split the fanbase...well not to the core but let's say to about where it split us when Harbaugh ran his mouth off about academics.

"I met Scott Schaefer after a spring practice his hear as DC for RR"
What I think you meant to type was "after a spring practice his year as DC for RR" but even that's a bit rough. I guessing based on the brevity of writing your post got spell-checked by a smart phone.
Either way though the content is great and informative. Very happy for Wheatley making it to the NFL.

Yes, "tear" makes perfect sense in that context...

glad to see him making the most of his opportunities. . .

Sorry, but thats false...Wheatley is not going to Buffalo. I know the guy personally and have since middle school. He's actually going to the Lions.

Fred Jackson will live longer than Methuselah. Except he is bigger, stronger, breaks tackles better and cuts on a dime. With much more speed!

He forgot the dash. It's supposed to be pre-Madonna, which describes a person before they make the transformation into a Madonna-like entity.

Does anyone know which school has the most former players coaching? I imagine a lot of the Ohio schools would be up there but it seems like UM would have a fairly high number.

A lot of the Ohio schools? I'm not really sure what you're asking after that...

I just hope Mike Hart realizes he's Wheatley's little brother.

Still sorta surprised that Marrone dumped his alma mater, but undoubtedly he's getting a radical increase in pay.
January 12th, 2013 at 10:36 AM ^
As a native Western New Yorker I can say that the folks in Buffalo are pretty disappointed that they got Marrone instead of one of the bigger name coaches. However, if they followed Michigan like we did during the end of the RR era I think they'd realize that taking over after a GERG-induced crater at SU and turning it into a respectable squad that quickly is a pretty significant accomplishment. Great to see Wheatley get a shot in the NFL and work with 2 great RB's.

I'd like to spend a couple of hours getting shitfaced with RR and then ask him just what in the flying hell he was thinking when he hired Robinson.
January 12th, 2013 at 2:19 PM ^
i think RR was shitfaced when he had his meeting with GERG and got hypnotized by his super bowl ring and offered him the DC job on the spot.
January 12th, 2013 at 2:54 PM ^
Do you really think Robinson was the main problem? Rich Rod didn't have him this past season and his D still was awful.
What I'd like to ask him is why he's so in love with the 3-3-5 that he'll make veteran DCs run it even when they're not comfortable with it.
January 12th, 2013 at 3:52 PM ^
the 3-3-5 looks like two big-breasted women in line for a guy in a wheelchair.
What's not to like about that?

Yes, if anyone comes across an official report please post it. A brief Google didn't turn anything up, and I am told that the 'Cuse message boards don't have anything regarding Wheatley, either.
I guess we can safely file this under just a rumor, for now.

Wheatley to Buffalo is false. Looking like the Lions actually.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. For godsakes, save yourself, Tyrone!
January 12th, 2013 at 11:36 AM ^
And then when Jackson retires it may not seem like a horizontal move going West on I-94.
January 12th, 2013 at 12:16 PM ^
Steve Morrison was LB Coach for Cuse in 2012. Shafer named Chuck Bullough (from MSU and most recently Cleve Browns) as his D Coord on Friday, and it remains to be seen what that means for Morrison.
From reading tweets of Syracuse media and this write up, Shafer nailed his intro press conference on Friday, a la Hoke two years ago.

Wheatley's kid is a 6'7, 235 pound monster in the 2015 class. Plays TE and DE.
