I'm very interested in this Indiana vs Minnesota game on BTN.
Saturday Basketball Open Thread
Thanks. Was just about to start this. Doesn't get much better than Minnesota @ Indiana and Duke @ NC St.
NC State winning would be huge for Michigan in a couple of ways. SOS and to pick up that #1 ranking.
the last remaining undefeated team.
If Duke were to lose and we win tomorrow it would be the first time we've had a #1 ranking since 1993. It's been awhile. Go Wolf Pack!
Go Wolf Pack
Is there a more fun to watch coach than Tom Crean? He is the Anti-Coach K
Haha. Yeah. Sometimes he looks like a mentally unstable crazy person.
Tom Izzo clone
I find myself lacking the necessary amount of televisions for this afternoon. If NC State wins today I'm going to scream all over this thread.
I almost want Duke to win so #1 won't be hanging over the boys in C-bus tomorrow.
Fair point, I was more thinking how it would look good for us since we already beat them.
I said almost.
I hear what you're saying but I think that's a bit overblown. We've been #2 for awhile. I'd like to hope our guys are a little more mentally tough than for something like that to affect them.
I guess I'll be the first to say it. I love Gus Johnson.
more interesting for us than Ind v Minn & NCSt v Duke, very telling for us.
Minnesota and Indiana both look great. Gonna have our hands full with both.
Damn IU is tough in Ass Hall
Yeah, just came to edit my post. They go off like dynamite and if you're gonna win there, you better be ready to weather a firestorm.
Ass Hall? Sounds like either a really awesome place or a horrible, scary place.
Both of these teams are going to be a real physical test for Michigan
Seems to be a ton of crowd noise. Is Assembly Hall that loud or is the crowd just mic'd up well?
I bet it's mic'd up. NC St seems a lot quieter
You must not have taken a trip to assembly hall. It's freaking loud in there.
Assembly Hall's loud as hell when Indiana's good. Probably the tougest place to play in the Big 10.
Does anyone have a stream for IU/Minn? First row sports isn't working.
Remaining on their schedule. Not one other ACC Team is ranked in the top 25.
It could wok against them as they might not be tested a well as they need to be, who knows.
They do seem penciled in for DC in Sweet 16, hope they'll have FLA & L'ville in their brackets, they are in the east afterall
It will be a 3 horse race in the B1G, with slight advantage to U-M & Ind
He can shoot.
If watching Duke-NCSt, find the mute button as fast as possible. I can't handle Vitale. He is the absolute worst. His pants tent for Duke is unbearable.
each with a Directv Box, I know I'm spoiled, helps me catch a lot of stuff from the announcers. When they were advertising Mich v Minn, Vitale didn't compliment us at all, that guy has alterior motives in a pathetic way, I'm used to it by now with him.
It doesn't matter to me, just sharing the onservation, he's definitely biased, he's an emotional guy, we're biased about our teams too, we're just not on TV, we are on a super cool blog tho, amiright?
He tweeted last week that Michigan would be knocking on the door for the final 4 after our Iowa win, he gives Michigan some love once in a while.
I flicked to the Duke game for 5 mins, come back and IU is up by 17?? What the hell happened?
Hulls is on fire and Minny's turned it over multiple times.
Watford is feeling it too. Indiana is playing some tough and physical defense, much better than last year. Although, the refs are swallowing a lot of whistles, I feel.
Watford's the key to that team. If he plays to his abilities, they're really tough to beat.
Anyone think Indiana is better than Duke? Granted they don't have R Kelly today
he's working on a new album? R Kelly that is
I think I'm happy about Ind winning like this right now, Minn was starting to worry me more, knocks them down a peg and maybe they'll be less confident against us, less swaggar
When we play IND, that's gonna be fun to watch. We'll be able to run up and down the court cause they like that style too.
It could be epic
I don't think we should try to run with them. We shouldn't do what Nebraska did, but we've got a much better chance if the game's in the 60s vs a game in the 80s.
IU on a ridiculous run the past 10+ minutes; looks like they go through their own "unstoppable" phases just like us. Going to be an awesome matchup on February 2nd.
Indiana is scary this afternoon.
How Duke is no. 1 with their piss poor schedule of nothing opponents is a joke.
I've been sitting here for the past several minutes comparing the major offensive and defensive stats of Indiana, Minnesota and Duke, and without having done a formal tally, I can say right now that statistically Indiana is the overall best of the three when it comes to winning these comparisons, with Minnesota a respectable second. That being said, there are not huge variations between the three anywhere up and down the chart, so it isn't as if Duke seriously lags in one category (indeed, they do lead in some categories). Duke commits the fewest personal fouls of the three on average, so I suppose there is that.
I was watching Duke-NC State - the line on this game was actually Duke -2, I think.
Don't know if serious?
OSU, Louisville, Kentucky.. and undefeated.
Loss to Butler... and blow out of the worst UNC team in a decade.
Also Minnesota, who outside of today's performance has been great. Personally I think we lose in the Barn next week.
I knew I'd forget something if I didn't look at the schedule.
I agree that it will be tough to win next week. They won't turn it over like this again. It always seemed that Minny was an unreasonably tough out at their place. Someone found one way to try to quantify this here:
Duke has already beaten:
Those are nothing opponents? I hate Duke like any rational person but come on.
When Indiana plays like that, they are better than Michigan. The scary thing is we are so young and could easily fold. I pray that doesn't happen!
I really think Indiana is unbeatable at Assembly. Shitty road team though.
Gophers turning the ball over too much, and I agree with the announcer that Tubby got out-coached in the first half. See if they can tighten it up in the second. Assuming we don't implode (we haven't yet) it will be a very different game when we play IU. Minnesota meanwhile is looking very mortal.
I expect the same outcomes as last year between IU and UM. Both teams have improved in all areas of the game at about the same level, therefore I don't expect a huge change in score differential between last year and this year. Both teams are mirror images of each other. They'll know how to slow each other down. And I firmly believe a close game favors Michigan this year.
I don't know who it will ultimately be but I think somebody from the conference wins it all in Atlanta this April.
As long as there aren't too many injuries no other team from another conference will be as battle tested.
Buckle up, saddle up, and whatever else for a great Big Ten season though this particular game has lost some interest for me due to Indiana's complete dominance. This NCSU game is interesting though.
The Pack is going tonwin this game
time left in these games yet
what a game between Duke vs NC State....
Indiana is good. But their cupcake schedule has certainly helped them so far. They don't have a tough road game for another 4 weeks until they travel to Illinois on Feb. 7th. The last 5 weeks of their season, they have to make trips to Illinois, OSU, MSU, Minnesota and then end at Crisler. I don't think we'll know how truly good they are for a while.
Lesile has been lights out in the 2nd half... the dukies are really missing kelly
Not only are they missing Kelly today, Duke left its refs in Durham, apparently.
I just woke up from a dream where we lost our first game at Minnesota...
This one's a bruiser--they're lettin' 'em play and it's like football out there. Hopefully that will take some steam out of the Goofers, and Beilein has thoroughly out-coached Tubby in the Barn since '09.
Don't think we can overlook tomorrow.
We are probably the better team but it is in Columbus and it is a rivalry game. Think our guys will be ready to play especially with Number 1 potentially being up for grabs but OSU is going to do everything in its power to derail us.
Minnesota will be tough but the team definitely needs to take it one game at a time.
Who exactly is overlooking tomorrow? I think almost all of us agree that it's going to be tough.
Guess I was seeing a lot of people in this thread talk about Minnesota and how it could be our first loss. I know people think tomorrow will be tough also.
I'm switching back and forth between Indy vs Minn and Duke vs NC State. It seems when I switch back to the Indy game, they are controlling the boards when they miss.
Lets go NC STAEE
Pack not locking this up yet.
I don't think Duke's coming back from this one. They need two 3 pointers and a stop just to tie with 1:30 left. Michigan could be the #1 team in the nation in just a few minutes
But I'll be damned if I'm not superstitious as heck. Do work in Columbus tomorrow and then we'll talk about #1!
looked like he might be hurt pretty bad, hip flexor type injury maybe, those things are lingering, Gophers always have this happen to them it seems
NVM, he's back playing, looked like it coulda been bad
Will NC State rush the court?
Absolutely without a doubt.
And number one ranking comes along with it along with best start in school history!!
For those who aren't watching, and reading this without ESPN or any other score tracker open, Duke down 5 with 40 seconds remaining, no timeouts.
Up by 9!
AAAAAHHHH GOOD JOB WOLFPACK!!!!
and the last unbeaten. So bizarre how far we've come in the last 5 years. Beat Ohio!
The wheelchair is on the court! The wheelchair is on the court!
Yeah, hope he's ok. Dude got wiped out.
Pitt just nailed a three at the buzzer to send their game against Marquette to OT! C'mon Panthers!
Aaaaaaaand Pitt is about to lose to Marquette. Apparently anyone can just waltz into the Peterson Events Center and run train on the Panthers.
Pitt taking Marquette to overtime. Could be a very good Saturday for Michigan.
Can't wait to watch tomorrows game!
And Minny/Indiana got interesting...
Free throws: 34 - 12 for Indiana. Big Ten home cooking!
Oladipo just picked up his fifth foul, on the third time this game where he fouled a shooter behind the arc. Drrrrrrr.
This game is gonna go to overtime! Book it!
Minny just needed to make one more play and then you were right.
Nevermind. Apparently nobody told Minnesota to rebound the basketball.
Would've been Minny ball down 3 with 18.0 left but Zeller helped em nap the rebound and it's probably over now
Minn and IU scare the heck out of me...looking forward to matching up against the best to see where we stand
Ballgame in Bloomington. Had Minny gotten the rebound off that missed FT they were looking at being able to tie the game and send it to OT.
At least we have seen that IU can be vulnerable at home.
is one weird dude
Tom Crean is a dick. Leaves Tubby there waiting for him to come shake his hand.
Yes he is a dick, but I'll cut him some slack this time. His team just about blew a 20+ point lead at home. I'd be pretty mad too.
Being mad at your own team shouldn't prompt you to take it out on the opposing coach.
Minnesota looks damn good, that was quite a large mountain to climb in Bloomington and they nearly had a chance to tie.
What team does that reflect on more? Is Minnesota that good, or is indiana a bit over-rated?
The truth is somewhere in the middle, I personally think IU was choking but then again that Minnesota press was really getting home on a lot of possessions. Minnesota is certainly in the conversation for top 3 in the B1G.
pitt loses in OT after tying the game at the end of regulation with a buzzer beating 3.
I may have been wrong about Pitt. I thought they would contend for the Big East title, but it looks as if they haven't gone over the hump from last year. Maybe that win doesn't look as good as it used to. But that's OK. NC State is looking really good right now and K-State has been playing really well. you just never know sometimes.
Pitt's non-conference schedule was a joke and gave little indication to the Panthers' actual identity. They played Michigan very tough as we know, but had zero quality wins amongst their non-conf conquests. Seriously, their best win before Georgetown (no doubt a solid victory) was either Detroit or Lehigh (with CJ McCollum). Weak.
against Wisconsin with only 2-1/2 minutes to go in the half.
Looks like Illinois is pulling an Illinois ahead of schedule
Does everyone play the Blues Brothers now????
