So, we can blame OSU for this. Put it on the bulletin board. (Semi-serious ...)

If you're in the mood for some dark humor, watch the field storming right after the 4th-down stop against Alabama. A few players got close to the Alabama sideline and expressed themselves. Sabb was leading the charge. :)

To leave this on a very positive note, Alabama was very interested in a guy who was -- technically -- a back-up at Michigan.

It makes sense. Caleb Downs left (safety spot opened up), Sabb has a pre-existing relationship with Courtney Morgan  (Bama recruiter who used to be with Michigan and Washington), and DB Domani Jackson, who we lost twice 🤬). I wish him well, and he should shine because it was a good move for him.

Yeah, I mean, It's quite a turn of events for a Michigan player who is considered a non starter to transfer to Bama for playing time. Does that say a lot about Michigan or more about Bama? Not sure.

Also, Courtney Morgan is at Bama and I'm sure he received some NIL jack to coerce him so there are other less significant factors.

Next man up.

I know that sounds harsh but that's just the reality of College Football nowadays. Program develops you, builds up your NFL resume, trusts you and gives you significant playing time en route to a National Championship, and it still isn't enough. In fairness, losing the defensive staff probably contributed to his decision but to not even give Coach Moore and his new staff a chance to prove themselves in Spring practice is disappointing.

I mean...Alabama's got a direct line to more playing time and this is likely a one-year rental anyway, so it makes total sense.  Yes, Michigan "gave" him playing time but he also performed well in those spots and gave UM above-average safety play from what one usually expects from their 3rd/4th safety.  And when UM inevitably plucks a player from some other team's roster because he wants more playing time, more money, etc. I doubt anyone will get that bent out of shape.

I'm sure Sabb talked to Moore and co. but he's able to look at a depth chart and figures his draft stock won't be any lower if he's a starter at Alabama than if he's a heavy backup/sorta-starter at UM.  It sucks to lose him but I totally get it and don't begrudge him for it.

This is how it will be until the new league is formed but even then the adjustments will be minimal. I think you'll see more controls on player movement and the playing field ($$$) will be more equitable (cap/revenue sharing).

It's a major adjustment but sorely needed. With TV and universities making billions off these kids backs it's finally about to change. Too bad its about a hundred billion and 30 years too late.

I'm not so sure the revenue used to pay the players will come from the universities, it should come directly from the multi billion dollar tv deals.

Also, I wonder if the responsibility for funding non rev sports falls on the shoulders of the athletes responsible for generating all the revenue? I get where you're coming from but the revenue generated by football players/teams and passed on to non rev entities is really a luxury not a responsibility.

Meh, these sports never generated revenue.  Lacrosse was a club sport when i was a student and now it's grown into a varsity sport.  If it's a good sport that kids want to play, they'll have it.  Maybe they wont get the luxuries they're used to, but yeah it was messed up that for decades golfers and squash players were getting luxury facilities with the money earned off the physical punishment football players receive on a daily basis.

Nobody ever wondered if we should take all the money the b-school students make and use it to fund luxuries for the art school.   That's insane on it's face, and using the money earned by football players to fund luxurious for other sports is equally insane.

Stud of a player and he will be missed but Berry is next man up and he will shine.  We’re currently at the point that we reload, not rebuild.  Have faith people, we’ll be fine.

I hope you’re right. I know this is what Alabama/Georgia/OSU have done for the last 15 years.

if by reload you mean “we are contenders for the National Championship in 24”. I am really hard pressed to see the number of questions about Michigans roster and coaching staff answered positively enough to win like we did last year.

How do we score enough points against good defenses?

FWIW, basically saying what all the mgoblog guys except Seth said on their podcast yesterday.

Moore is no slouch athletically and he's a 3-year starter. Dude was making plays against OSU as a true freshman. No doubt keeping Moore is a much bigger win than if he left for the NFL and Sabb stays.

Also, who's to say Sabb still doesn't leave even if Moore or Paige declared? Regardless, sucks to lose Sabb but this is what happens when you recruit well and develop that talent, you're gonna lose some guys that are starter-level talent but are behind more talented guys.
